You are the hole in my head
You are the space in my bed
You are the silence in between
What I thought and what I said

You are the night-time fear
You are the morning when it's clear
When it's over your start
You're my head, you're my heart

No light, no light in your bright blue eyes
I never knew daylight could be so violent
A revelation in the light of day
You can choose what stays and what fades away

And I'd do anything to make you stay
No light, no light
(No light)
Tell me what you want me to say

Through the crowded islands crying out at me
In your place there were a thousand other faces
I was disappearing in plain sight
Heaven help me I need to make it right

You want a revelation
You want to get it right
And it's a conversation
I just can't have tonight

You want a revelation
Some kind of resolution
You are the revelation

No light, no light in your bright blue eyes
I never knew daylight could be so violent
A revelation in the light of day
You can choose what stays and what fades away

And I'd do anything to, to make you stay
No light, no light
(No light)
Tell me what you want me to say

But would you leave me
If I told you what I've done
And would you leave me
If I told you what I've become

'Cause it's so easy
To sing it to a crowd
But it's so hard, my love
To say it to you, all alone

No light, no light in your bright blue eyes
I never knew daylight could be so violent
A revelation in the light of day
You can choose what stays and what fades away

And I'd do anything to make you stay
No light, no light
Tell me what you want me to say

You want a revelation
You want to get it right
But, it's a conversation
I just can't have tonight

You want a revelation
Some kind of resolution
You want a revelation

You want a revelation
You want to get it right
But, it's a conversation
I just can't have tonight
You want a revelation
Some kind of resolution
Tell me what you want me to say

Song Comparison:Reminds me of the book "Fated" by Alyson Noel
I'm actually only about a third through the book but so far, there's these two brothers, and they both have beautiful blue eyes, but one's eyes are reflective and happy, while the other's are dark and cruel and "a void." She's in love with the good-eyed one. Anyways, the line "No light, no light in your bright blue eyes, I never knew daylight could be so violent" is sooo so similar to that part of the book. haha sorry i'm so random.

General Comment:I don't think it's about a relationship at all. I think it's about death and betrayal.

My Interpretation:If you are fortunate enough to never relate to this song, then consider yourself lucky. It's about the end of a relationship. That moment when you realize all of the right timing of saying something to change it has gone out the window. Your former partner could be moving on to someone else or just tired of the exhausting feeling of trying to make it work. It is that moment after you've both been talking in circles for so long that nothing makes since anymore. Afterwards, you may reflect on the relationship and see the most obvious times where saying something assertive or expressing your needs would have made a difference. You may even grasp at hope thinking that if you tell them where you went wrong they would forgive you or understand it can work out. Usually, this means very little to people and they just stare at you with a blank stare, hug you, and say, "I'm sorry that it didn't work out." That feeling of not being worth a second chance is the worst feeling.

My Interpretation:Okay, my opinion on this song is that it is not about guilt, but instead about controlling relationships. In this case I believe Florence is falling victim to a relationship where there is no light at the end.

No light, no light in your bright blue eyes
I never knew daylight could be so violent
A revelation in the light of day
You can choose what stays and what fades away

The chorus(^^) to me shows the desperate cries of a woman who wants to be loved. 'No light no light in your bright blue eyes' shows that her lover no longer feels love fore her. 'I never knew daylight could be so violent' says that something once so sweet and pure (their love) could turn for the worst, the violence is what is acting on her damaged heart. 'A revelation in the light of day' the revelation being the sudden turn of events. 'You can choose what stays and what fades away' is a final desperate plea, sacraficing herself and everything about her just to feel his love. She wants him to change her, if it will only make him stay. 'And i'd do anything, to make you stay'

    You want a revelation
You want to get it right
    And it's a conversation
    I just can't have tonight

'You want a revelation' refers to him wanting a change in lovers. 'You want to get it right' means she knows he has no feelings anymore for her and wants to this time, 'get it right'. She doesn't want to though 'And it's a conversation I just can't have tonight' she doesn't want to let go.

    But would you leave me
If I told you what I've done
    And would you leave me
If I told you what I've become

'But would you leave me if I told you what I've done" Is a question to him. She has felt like she has done everything possible to prevent his leaving but he is oblivious to it. 'And would you leave me if I told you what I've become' is also another question to him. She is asking him if he has known what this love has made her become. All for him.

Her final line, is a final whisper for him. She knows he is long gone though. This doesn't make her feelings any less. 'Tell me what you want me to say'

My Interpretation:the song is about a relationship between two people, the singer being a celebrity for sure which you'll be able to notice later on in my explanation.

You are the hole in my head
You are the space in my bed
You are the silence in between
What I thought and what I said

it's obvious the "you" the singer is referring to here is the guilty act she committed. it's clearly caused tension, whatever it is she's hiding, between herself and her lover which is why she's referring it to the space in her bed (there's something standing between them). the silence refers to her hesitance in what she knows she should tell him and what she ends up saying instead (her lies to keep her lover unaware).

    You are the nighttime fear
You are the morning when it's clear
When it's over you're the start
You're my head, you're my heart

she finds the night to be the hardest time with her lover. she has to get into bed with him and act like there's nothing wrong, and so when she finally wakes in the morning she feels better about having made it one more night (she's in the clear maybe to work schedules and not having to spend as much time together during the day). he's being referred to as her head and heart which makes me believe this has been a long lasting relationship.

No light, no light in your bright blue eyes
I never knew daylight could be so violent
A revelation in the light of day
You can't choose what stays and what fades away

whatever it is going on with her, it's clearly caused her lover to lose that light in his eyes whenever he looks at her, which she's going to know she's the reason for with all her secrets. the violence of the daylight insinuates her revelation that comes with knowing she can't keep doing this forever and eventually he's going to find out. just because she's ignoring the problems doesn't mean they're ever going to go away.

And I'd do anything to make you stay
No light, no light, no light
Tell me what you want me to say

she's completely desperate. this is someone she can't live without, someone she'd do anything to keep in her life. but because of her mistake, she's put their relationship at risk. what can she say to fix what she's done?

Through the crowded islands, crying out at me
In your place there were a thousand other faces
I was disappearing in plain sight
Heaven help me, I need to make it right

what she'd been keeping from him has finally come out in the open, but it sounds to me that it wasn't from her own doing. she was outed by an outside source for her wrong doings and because of this she has to make a public apology. but it's to the crowd instead of the one person who deserved the apology the most. this crowd is probably her fans.

    You want a revelation,
    You wanna get right
    But it's a conversation,
    I just can't have tonight
    You want a revelation
    Some kind of resolution
    You want a revelation

her lover is now aware of what's happened and they want to know the details, some sort of an explanation to how she could hurt them in this way, but she's incapable of saying it even still. there are no words to explain why she's done this to him or how she went through with something she obviously realizes was completely wrong.

    Would you leave me,
If I told you what I've done?
    And would you need me,
If I told you what I've become?
    Cause it's so easy,
To say it to a crowd
But it's so hard, my love,
To say it to you, all alone

she's cheated, which is why she's been so afraid this whole time to tell him what she's done, that she's become a cheater. is he going to leave her now or will he work it out with her? admitting to the world what she's done was easier. of course it was. the only person she cares about is this man whose world she's just turned upside down. coming clean to him means hurting him more than she already has. what will he think of her now? how could she have done this to someone she loves so much? she's failed him. herself. their relationship.

Lyric Correction:It's "you CAN'T chose what stays and what fades away"... though the optimism is nice.
And "Through the crowd I was crying out and
In your place there were a thousand other faces
I was disappearing in plain sight
Heaven help me I need to make it right"
    also,
"-Tell me- would you leave me
If I told you what I've done
    And would you leave me
If I told you what I've become

    'Cause it's so easy
To sing it to a crowd
But it's so hard, my love
To say it to you, -out loud-"

Just a few small things, but I'm a terrible perfectionist, so yeah...

My Interpretation:There is are two extremes presented in this song. The first is that she is too afraid and feels overwhelmed by the issues popping up in her life as in "a conversation I just can't have tonight" and "the night time fear". The second is that she experiences herself as being willing to do anything to overcome this issue ("I'd do anything to make you stay") which she swings back and forth between as in "the morning when it's clear".

This experience is confusing ("hole in my head") and painful ("daylight could be so violent"). Her ambivalence is so loud in her head that she cannot avoid it ("you can't choose what stays and what fades away").

She does, at least, feel some relief in the experience of being able to express herself to a crowd even if it is thru metaphors and implied rather than explicit and available to her to reflect on (or so she tells herself).

She wants a revelation. Something to be able to conclude and move past. Something to make this ambivalence go away. But it wont go away. Not for long anyway. And she is trapped inside herself ("disappearing in plain sight"), and will continue to be trapped and to feel ambivalent as long as she refers to herself as "you" and "your".

I'm not at all convinced this has anything to do with a boyfriend. If it does, it's only as an afterthought or what triggered this cycle going between determination and overwhelming anxiety. The other IS herself. She is both extremes in one body which explains the shifts between mellow to dark in the mood of the song and also her own contradicting thoughts and experiences.
