Shadows settle on the place, that you left
Our minds are troubled by the emptiness
Destroy the middle, it's a waste of time
From the perfect start to the finish line

And if you're still breathing, you're the lucky ones
'Cause most of us are heaving through corrupted lungs
Setting fire to our insides for fun
Collecting names of the lovers that went wrong
The lovers that went wrong

We are the reckless
We are the wild youth
Chasing visions of our futures
One day we'll reveal the truth
That one will die before he gets there
And if you're still bleeding, you're the lucky ones
'Cause most of our feelings, they are dead and they are gone
We're setting fire to our insides for fun
Collecting pictures from the flood that wrecked our home
It was a flood that wrecked this

And you caused it
And you caused it
And you caused it

Well I've lost it all, I'm just a silouhette
A lifeless face that you'll soon forget
My eyes ae damp from the words you left
Ringing in my head, when you broke my chest
Ringing in my head, when you broke my chest

And if you're in love, then you are the lucky one
'Cause most of us are bitter over someone
Setting fire to our insides for fun
To distract our hearts from ever missing them
But I'm forever missing him

And you caused it
And you caused it
And you caused it

General Comment:It seems to me that the person she is blaming is God.

As though God took someone that was so precious to this girl, and she has lost them forever. And it's His fault.

And the song is the detailed extent to how she feels this raw pain. How she tries to escape it all by becoming this "reckless youth", doing anything to numb the pain she's in.

However, nothing she does can numb this pain she's in.

It's quite a sad song, really. Very touching, raw.

My Interpretation:I think the song is about drugs (substance abuse) and how it affects youth nowadays. The song encapsulates the feelings as a teenager when you leave home and are for once left to your own devices, but there's a sense of confusion and lack of direction in life. Consequently people turn to relationships, which would fail, or drugs, which can screw you up, mentally and physically.

My favourite lyrics are: 'Destroy the middle, it's a waste of time from the perfect start to the finish line.' as it's so rich in emotion and summarises one of the themes about the pointlessness of life and the battle against this thought as a teen.

My Interpretation:I think that it has something to do with the future, it seems like the soceity in the world is getting too cold-hearted, and everything is starting to get messed up, everyone loses their minds about something, and people don't care anymore about themselfes or about others.
Sounds a bit weird, but thats how I get it :)

My Opinion:I think it is about the tragedy of loosing a love, and how it all fits in to the journey of growing from child to adolescence, along with other habits associated with a person's youthful day; smoking, drinking, drugs maybe.

I think the lines, "if you're in love/still bleeding/breathing, you're the lucky ones" are incredibly powerful and are about the fact that if you are able to bleed, to feel pain (physically, emotionally), whatever it may be, then you are lucky because at least you are still can! Some people make the transition from child to adult, with "battle scars", lost relationships, addictions- evidence of other life altering events.

Mostly though, i think it is about everything in life becoming too much, resulting in a incredibly heartbreaking, beautiful, sad and frustrating break down where, "you caused it" is repeated. Then she sings the last two verses and it's so emotional!. Then "you caused it" is repeated again- a constant shift between sad and angry, fluctuating the way teen hormones do.

This song however could be about something completely different, and perhaps i'm looking into it too much, but this is the little story that floats about my head when i listen to it....

My Interpretation:To me this song is about someone who lost the love of their life... everything now is worthless and meaningless. Life is now but a beginning and an end, and everything in between isn't worth it without that person. Losing them, was losing everything, and nothing else really effects them anymore, you are just emotionless to everything, and you spend the rest of your time doing anything just to distract yourself from thinking of them or missing them, but you always will and it eats at you, and you're the lucky ones if you can still think, and breath, and feel emotion, and you are the lucky one if you love and have not lost.

General Comment:I think it is about the effect of drugs on relationships, a lot of the lyrics seem to suggest that

General Comment:It's amazing the effect that a good song can have on people when it resonates within. I personally believe that not only the words, but the music itself communicates a small bit of truth that many of us are able to recognize. It's sort of like "reading between the lines" if you will.

On that note, this song to me tells the story of personal spiritual pursuits and accompanying realizations. While I believe the sign of good art (including music) is that it can resonate on multiple levels, the one that hits home the most for me is that this is about spiritual awakening. This is how I interpret the references to the flood and "you caused it." referring to the sin of curiosity and youth. Collecting pictures refers to the sporadic remnants of ancient lost civilizations that we find throughout the world. We set fire to our insides because we no longer have religion to fill that void inside ourselves. We realize something is wrong and our lives are unfulfilled (collecting names of lovers we have lost).

Anyway, that is my two cents. The parallels don't stop there either. Like I mentioned earlier, there are many other interpretations and there is nothing gained by saying that any other is wrong.

General Comment:Shadows settle on the place, that you left
Our minds are troubled by the emptiness

    - Someone's gone, dead, but it's hard to believe that they're gone.

And if you're still breathing, you're the lucky ones
'Cause most of us are heaving through corrupted lungs

    - Breathing easily, no burden, but barely breathing, or breathing difficultly, meaning they're burdened and it's hard to do something so simple as breathing.

Setting fire to our insides for fun
Collecting names of the lovers that went wrong
    The lovers that went wrong

    - Trying to deal with the pain by drinkng or getting high, and trying to find comfort with people that you've already had relationships with, trying to reconcile with them.

    We are the reckless
    We are the wild youth
    Chasing visions of our futures
One day we'll reveal the truth
That one will die before he gets there

    - Life as the youth, having fun, breaking rules, etc, while trying to be mature, and trying to get there, but obviously someone hasn't made it to adulthood, they've died.

And if you're still bleeding, you're the lucky ones
'Cause most of our feelings, they are dead and they are gone

    - Felling pain, bleeding, but because of this person's death, they've gone hard, they've lost their ability to feel things.

We're setting fire to our insides for fun
Collecting pictures from the flood that wrecked our home
It was a flood that wrecked this

    - Something big, something that couldn't have been stopped. Our home, our place of rest, It was personal.

    And you caused it
    And you caused it
    And you caused it

    - blaming somone, obviously, the person that killed or caused the death of the friend or boyfriend, or blaming the other youths for being so immature, or even herself or her friends for it. Or blaming the person that died, they're fault for making her be like this.

Well I've lost it all, I'm just a silouhette
A lifeless face that you'll soon forget
My eyes ae damp from the words you left
Ringing in my head, when you broke my chest
Ringing in my head, when you broke my chest

    - She's no longer who she used to be, just a shell. Just another face lost in the crowd to the person that killed her (boy)friend. When they said something in accordance to the death, it completely shattered her, her chest or heart broken.

And if you're in love, then you are the lucky one
'Cause most of us are bitter over someone

    - Self explainitory, if you can love, you're lucky, she can't as she's still distraught over the person she lost.

Setting fire to our insides for fun
To distract our hearts from ever missing them
    But I'm forever missing him

    - Trying to forget the pain, or at least, putting it off for awhile through drinking or drugs, but she'll never let him go, she'll never forget him, she'll always mis him.

    And you caused it
    And you caused it
    And you caused it

    - It's all your fault. You caused this pain, his death, you made this happen.

That's my interpretation, a little gloomy, but yeah.
