  General Comment:I hate this song. I don't see how anything can see it as positive. Like "Pumped Up Kicks" it is so upbeat sounding but has such a revolting message:

  (Honest, I may sound like a pathetic bastard--good thing my friends can't hear--but I'm REAL sorry, even though we both know I'd probably do it again eventually)

  (Yeah, we're kids so we can pretend our actions don't have consequences, and we can pretend we don't know better. Nothing we do is for keeps anyway -- conveniently forgetting scars)

  (I know realistically if I back off you could do a lot better than me, but I'm here and luckily I got all my lines out before the guys got back, so my rep is still intact, and it looks like you're caving and I'm getting laid tonight--those guys will be so impressed that even after what I did to you you're still coming back to me, am I a stud or what?)

    I can understand what you're implying, but this does rely on one crucial thing: you can't be sure the scar was caused by a beating. If you've ever seen the movie 'The Butterfly Effect' for instance, there's a scene where Ashton Kutcher, in trying to save the girl he loves, actually ends up doing her more damage. Guilt's a strange thing, so the guy in the lyrics may have caused the girl's scar, and may even feel responsible for it, but at no point does he actually admit physically assaulting her. So yeah, you can look at it in many different ways I suppose, with no way of knowing exactly what transpired between the two. I still think it's a great song though, so I prefer to got with my own interpretation. Though I have to thank you, because I never actually looked at the lyrics in this way, because of the upbeat rhythm, it's just easy to assume that all's well and good, if you don't listen too closely. It's only when you start listening to each and every word, that you hear the darker undertone.

    Music is art and everything is subjective. But you said it yourself, you hate this song. So of course your going to see the darkest context to it. Unfortunately, it shows your complete bias and makes your interpretation null and void.
