A coin tossed, into the air, will come down
It will come down somewhere
Your life, is a coin in the air
It will come down, it will come down somewhere

Every coin does ring
Every coin will fall
Stop your wavering
Now's the time so call it out

A coin in the air, it will come down
It will come down somewhere

Every coin does ring
Every coin will fall
Stop your wavering
Now's the time so call it in the air

You have to choose
And what you stand to lose
You've been putting up all of your life
Call it in my hand
Only one way to see what the outcome will be
Call it out before we lose the light

No more stalling, no delay
You must call it out by light of day

Every coin does ring
Every coin will fall
Stop your wavering
Now's the time so call it in the air

You have to choose
And what you stand to lose
You've been putting up all of your life
Call it in my hand
Only one way to see what the outcome will be
Call it out before we lose the light

So heads or tails?
There's nothing for it so put an end to your sidestepping
Is it heads or tails?
You can't ignore it
You stand to win or lose everything

Heads or tails?
Just put an end to your sidestepping
Heads or tails?
You stand to win or lose everything

The lyrics in this song are a specific reference to the "coin toss" scene in the movie 'No Country for Old Men'...

To me, this song is speaking to people who are riding the fence about their spiritual condition and are called to pick a side before our time on earth is up.

I think this song is a literal as it appears. Dustin is speaking of the indecisiveness we all have. You can't live without ever making a decision. Many times we push and procrastinate, rather than just taking a chance and going with our instincts. You know at some point you must ultimately chose, so waiting does not solve the problem, but instead elongate it.

    Song Meaning

There isn't much to the lyrics and because of this the meaning seems vague. This whole album lyrically seems more vague than previous releases and Dustin has spoken on this in the vinyl liner notes. This song is about how our lives are filled with choices, both good and bad, and like a coin in the air we must call it out/make a decision. Seems to me that it's about our potential to make good choices in this life.

It's amazing how intentional their musicality is...you get a deep sense of urgency and ominous inevitability when listening to this; as if time's running out. Definitely about certifying your stance on decisions...either hot or cold...the lukewarm will be vomited out.

Little Feat
Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”
