The streets of persuasion
Are plated with gold
Your heart's in the right place,
But you travel down the wrong road
Like so many before you
The gates open wide

Here comes the rising tide

Let's go out tonight
There's a mystery underneath those neon lights
Until life and dream collide
'Cause the truth's gonna come and cut you open wide
And you can't escape the rising of the tide

Keep up your appearance; you're joining the choir
With everybody singing out
Glory Hallelujah
The songs get you nowhere
There's nowhere to hide

Here comes the rising tide

And the company you keep
Well they plan your crucifixion as we speak
So, baby 'til life and the dream collide
There's gonna be a mystery underneath those neon lights
You'll petition, but your access was denied
And you can't escape the rising of the tide

Can you tell me brother was I deceived, or in denial?
I was there, in the back of the room, when you testified
Well you took the stand, you licked your lips, and you lied
Until life and the dream collide
Well I gotta believe there's something on my side
When the venom in your veins is satisfied
You'll be running but there ain't nowhere to hide

And you can't escape
(You can't escape)
You can't escape
(You can't escape)
You can't escape the rising of the tide

General Comment:Brandon Flowers' religious, but that doesn't mean this song's religious. He wouldn't either write a song against any other religions. He said in an interview that he respects all religions and beliefs, that everyone's entitled to believe what they like. He said he didn't believe in putting any beliefs down, so I don't think he'd write a song against religion..........

My Interpretation:Chezzz you're right but I think is no only about revelation, and armageddon. I think is more about choosing the wrong religion.I want to make clear that I'm atheist and I'm not trying to make you believe in anything, just my interpretation of the song:

    1. The streets of persuasion Are plated with gold ("fake" hurches will sell an idea, and they persuade you with promises of eternal life and abundance)

    2. Your heart's in the right place, But you travel down the wrong road (you believe in god but you're in the wrong religion)

    3. Like so many before you The gates open wide (Matthew 7:13 New American Standard Bible (© 1995)
"Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it.) I think they mean: don't choose the easy way, the easy religion.

    4. Here comes the rising tide (here comes the judgment day).

    5. Let's go out tonight, There's a mystery underneath those neon lights,Until life and dream collide, 'Cause the truth's gonna come and cut you open wide, And you can't escape the rising of the tide (Let me tell you the truth about your religion, that truth's gonna come and cut you open wide)

    6. Keep up your appearance; you're joining the choir, With everybody singing out Glory Hallelujah, The songs get you nowhere, There's nowhere to hide (many hypocrite people go to church, sing and pray there, and believe that it will save them, but singing will get you nowhere)

7.And the company you keep, Well they plan your crucifixion as we speak. (I think "company" refers to the
leader, priest, minister or reverend of your religion)

    8. You'll petition, but your access was denied And you can't escape the rising of the tide (you've got no hope, you were in the wrong way all your life)

    9. Can you tell me brother was I deceived, or in denial? (deceived by the religion)

But the whole song may refer to someone who chose the path of crime by false promises and chasing a dream an illusion, and then was betrayed by his partners.Jajajaja that's what i like about The Killers songs!!!!

General Comment:YES!! im the first to comment on this!
I am so stoked about a new album by the Killers!
I have a feeling this song is about revelation, and armageddon,
"you can't escape the rising of the tide"<-- The end is going to come
"You'll be running but there ain't nowhere to hide" <-- you can't hide from God
"Well you took the stand, you licked your lips, and you lied" <-- you sinned
"Well they plan your crucifixion as we speak" <-- you're going to go to hell
"There's gonna be a mystery underneath those neon lights" <-- God is going to judge you (in an interviewy sorta way)
    "With everybody singing out
Glory Hallelujah" <-- You're praising God to save yourself

Well, thats all I got, thoughts people?
Also, does anyone know when the release date of the album "The rising tide" is coming out?
