Everyone wants to call it all around our life with a better name
Everyone falls and spins and gets up again with a friend who does the same
Everyone lies and cheats their wants and needs and still believes their heart
And everyone gets the chills, the kind that kills when the pain begins to start
Let me get this straight, do you want me here?
As I struggle through each and every year
And all these demons, they keep me up all night
They keep me up all night
They keep me up all night
Everyone's cross to bears are the crown they wear on endless holiday
Everyone raises kids in a world that changes life to a bitter game
Everyone works and fights, stays up all night to celebrate the day
And everyone lives to tell the tale of how we die alone some day
Let me get this straight, do you want me here?
As I struggle through each and every year
And all these demons, they keep me up all night
They keep me up all night
They keep me up all night
They keep me up all night
They keep me up all night

Everyone raises kids in a world that changes life to a bitter game"), that echo the existential dilemmas faced by adulthood. This could definitely relate to the band's past struggles, but I believe they're quite universal in nature... something kind of unusual coming from these guys. Ah well, hopefully the album isn't too stadium in nature. Or if it is, let's hope it's good.
ANYWAYS, I definitely echo the sentiment that the song is about the universality of struggling just to cope with contemporary problems in general. I also think though that the song could be the pleading of a single individual struggling with the reality of their personal drama coming into a new relationship for the first time. The person is asking their potential loved one if they can handle the person's baggage, explaining that everyone has their own, without downplaying the severity of their own issues. Just a thought, probably 900% off.
Blink has been gone almost a decade without a song, and they release this epic song and im on the first page!!!!!!
i agree wholeheartedly with Jagrobby182. ive been waiting patiently and this song is AMAZING
The chorus is a little too much AVA but this song.. incredible
at first it sounds depressing but at the same time there's a hint of faith in it as he is asking god whether if it is the right choice - so he isn't decided yet if the world is worth living for
the verses also hold negativity but also a sense of togetherness; for example the line "everyone falls and spins and gets up again with a friend who does the same" suggests that everyone has low times in their lives but they will recover and "get up" with a friend who has gone through the same situation. so it shows that we are not alone. The idea that everyone goes through the same kind of shit in life is strengthened by the fact that every line in the verse uses the word "everyone" at the start.
so in conclusion i feel the song is about life, not the emo-nobody-likes-me extreme but also not the hollywood-happy-go-lucky kind of life expressed in happy songs. its just an honest view of how life is, both good and bad; but no matter how life turns out to be we will always be connected by the strength of human love and understanding (no matter how little might be present today, it is there, somewhere!).
great song btw, hated it first time i listened but kept it on repeat. now i love it - blink-182 continue to amaze me.
