I ran away in floods of shame
I'll never tell how close I came
As I cross the Holland road
You went left and I went right
As the moon hung proud and white
You would of loved it here tonight

Spin me round just to pin me down
On the cover of this strange bed
Spin me round just to pin me dowm

Roll out your questions keep them down
Let the water lead us home
And I was sorry for what I'd done

You were young I was not old
But our story was not told
But torn apart by greedy hands

Spin me round just to pin me down
On the cover of this strange bed
spin me round just to pin me down

Spin me round just to pin me down
I'll be gone by the nights end
Spin me round just to pin me down

But I'll be home in a little while
Lover I'll be home
And I'll be home in a little while
Lover I'll be home

And I'll be home in a little while
Lover I'll be home
And I'll be homw in a little while
Lover I'll be home

General Comment:I feel like this song is about a couple, young love, who wanted different things in life, so they went their separate ways, and all he could think about was the "what if's", he later realizes that maybe he made a mistake, than the classic story of when you love something, set it free, if it was meant to be, it will come back. Hence the "I'll be home", he's making his journey back to where his heart belongs.

General Comment:Man, you guys are taking this in a very depressing light.
I don't see this as someone cheating or committing suicide as much as two people just separating after being together for a long time, not because they don't love each other, but because the man is a singer, and singers travel.

I always felt like his shame was simply leaving her behind, and how close he came referred to how close to came to quitting the band to go back to her. As he travels the world, he thinks of all the places that he would have liked to take her but can't because of work.

I always thought 'spin me 'round just to pin me down' was him thinking about her, and how it would go from happy and cheerful thoughts to intense feelings of missing her. The bed would be strange because it's foreign, a random bed in a random hotel.

I figured maybe he had decided to leave with the band without telling her, which is why he felt ashamed.

Their love was torn apart by his greedy hands, because he lusted for money and chose that over her.

Even with all of that said and done, he'll still be coming back home in a little while, where she's been waiting for him.

That was just my thought though.

General Comment:Listening to this song leads me to believe that the singer is talking about losing the person you love.

I ran away in floods of shame
I'll never tell how close I came
As I cross the Holland road
You went left and I went right
As the moon hung proud and white
You would of loved it here tonight

It comes as a young relationship where he might have been a bit childish and not taking it entirely seriously, maybe he didn't feel too sure about it as it often happens with many new couples. Then sadly she passed away and he feels bad for all the things he didn't do and misses her. He loved her but didn't realised how much until she was gone. He runs away from everything cause it all reminds him of her, he even thinks of suicide.

Spin me round just to pin me down
On the cover of this strange bed
Spin me round just to pin me down

He's now having sleepless nights, thoughts keep running through his head, nothing is the same without her.

Roll out your questions keep them down
Let the water lead us home
And I was sorry for what I'd done

Questions about death keep coming up, he wonders why. It's hard to come to terms with a love one's death. However, time never stops, he refers to an 'after life' as home, the destination we all share. 'Let the water lead us home', in time we will meet again. He apologises for taking her for granted.

You were young I was not old
But our story was not told
But torn apart by greedy hands

They were both young and it ended too soon, Death 'greedy hands' took her away, he's heartbroken.

Spin me round just to pin me down
I'll be gone by the nights end
Spin me round just to pin me down

Night's end, again I believe refers to when we run out of time, he'll be gone, he's going home. However, in the mean time he's got to hang in there.

But I'll be home in a little while
    Lover I'll be home
And I'll be home in a little while
    Lover I'll be home

This is my favourite verse, here everything is summarised. Time flies, it comes and goes in a flash, and his love for her is so strong that he now feels positive about the end, after all he'll be going home to her. He knows in not too long they'll be together again. It's true love, just beautiful.

My Interpretation:I can only think of the story of Wuthering Heights when I hear this song..

I think its Healthcliff looking back on his time with Catherine and how they fell apart-

I ran away in floods of shame
I'll never tell how close I came
As I cross the Holland road
You went left and I went right
As the moon hung proud and white
You would of loved it here tonight

    - Healthcliff ran away and they went their separate ways 'went left and i went right' and then Healthcliff talks of how she would love it here as this is maybe after shes dead..

Spin me round just to pin me down
On the cover of this strange bed
Spin me round just to pin me dowm

-Catherine sort of messes him around at the end before her death and the bed they're in together is strange because its her death bed?

Roll out your questions keep them down
Let the water lead us home
And I was sorry for what I'd done

-He's talking about suicide here because as shes dead the water will lead them 'home'

You were young I was not old
But our story was not told
But torn apart by greedy hands

-They were both children when they spent their childhood together and they couldnt develop their relationship because Catherine was stolen by that guy.. I cant remember his name 'greedy hands'

Then 'Ill be home in a little while' is talking about him killing himself to join her

I agree with most of the comments but applying it to this novel was fun :)

General Comment:Glasspassenger has it down. It's about him cheating on his wife.

I ran away in floods of shame
I'll never tell how close I came
As I cross the Holland road
You went left and I went right

They had a fight. They both took off. He won't say in particular what it was he did, or how close he came to it (until later in the song).

As the moon hung proud and white
You would of loved it here tonight

All he could think of was her, his wife. Though he was going to cheat, he couldn't get her out of his mind. 'She would have loved the weather out tonight.' After living your life with someone for such a long time, it becomes difficult to look at any situation without thinking about your other half. Thinking things like: "Man, she would love this," or "Man, I wish she were here to enjoy this with me."

Spin me round just to pin me down
On the cover of this strange bed
Spin me round just to pin me dowm

"Strange bed" There it is. His head is swirling around and spinning with crazy emotions: anger, sadness, remorse. He was pinned down on the bed anyway though. He cheated with some woman (probably in her bed) and his conscience is eating away at him.

Roll out your questions keep them down
Let the water lead us home
And I was sorry for what I'd done

He did it. He knew she would question where he had been. He kept evading them but he was still so sorry for what he had done. He could not get it out of his head.

You were young I was not old
But our story was not told
But torn apart by greedy hands

They were young, full of life. Their relationship was going places, but one fight later he was sleeping with some other person. It was his greedy mistake that messed up everything.

Spin me round just to pin me down
I'll be gone by the nights end
Spin me round just to pin me down

He knows its over. He hates himself for it, but the relationship is finished. He'll be gone by the nights end. Maybe he's going to kill himself, maybe he's just moving out. But it's done.

I'll be home in a little while

He wants it to continue. He misses his wife and their relationship. He just wants to come home. He knows it's never going to happen though.

My Interpretation:you guys keep saying how it is suicide which i believe to be true yet not too many people have said anything about the line "But I'll be home in a little while Lover I'll be home" and if home is death that brings me to my point that maybe he lost someone he loved and he doesn't feel like he can go on living without that person so he feels like ending his own life

    just a thought

My Interpretation:I think this song is amazing. To me it is about cheating but I think it is to the mistress. He truly loves the "other" woman in this situation but is not able to be with her perhaps because the wife will not agree to divorce. "But our story was not told
But torn apart by greedy hands"

My Opinion:You can interpret just about any song any way, and for me and my fiance we went through a time in our relationship where we had to separate for a little while to figure out our own paths, but once we got back together it was like we were home...we r going to slow dance for our wedding to this song, then at the end we r going to bust out into song and dance singing Edward Sharpe and the magnetic zeroes "Home".

My Interpretation:I interpret this song about him almost giving into lust and cheating on his love.
