  General Comment:In an interview i watched Adam said its a song about how religion can take over your life and stop you from being who you really are ("You don't know yourself").

  That to me seems to back it up.
  
  Anyways great song, love it.
  
  on a side note; im sick of people saying "oh this is about that band member that left" on every single one of tbs's songs. Adam has clearly said the lyrics come from their everyday lives. Im sure their lives have more to it than band members leaving.

    I hadn't seen this interview so thank you, this was actually the only song off this album that I thought could be about any ex member and that was based off the article and not just trying to make ties that weren't there

  Song Meaning:Was Adam or John's father some sort of clergy? I have tried to find out info about there parents but its HARD to do. I know they are from religious families but it seems to me this song is about someone important in their life that harped on religion while the author was growing up but never "practiced what they preached". It has the feeling, to me, like he is saying "Alright I am a fully grown adult at this point I deserve to get some closure on this". Maybe whichever one penned most of the lyrics dealt with some physical abuse or maybe its someone they know and are close with that behaves in this way toward there own children. Just my take but I thought maybe this would help get the convo going on this song because its a really imporant piece from this album. I absolutely think this song being about Chauntelle ( married to someone else with a child now lol ) or previous band mates is pretty silly. And Rubano and Fazzi didn't leave on horrible terms or anything. Nothing like John or Fred.

    Well if you read the Alt press article, there was a lot of angst towards Fazzi and Rubano, so it wouldn't be a silly though at all.

    Yeah it'd be silly for it to be about Chauntelle except that the two events were only half a year apart... but anyway I meant to mention that throughout the previous album Adam self-admittedly wrote a lot of the songs towards that event.

    to tie your tangled toungue
    instead you slash it through the mud' is from everything must go which refers to her very religious background. I'm not saying he still wants to be with her (hence the title this is all now) it's kind of just a final attempt at understanding an event that is still obviously clear to him (sits a broken man that needs to understand). Once and for all he just wants the truth.

  General Comment:Just throwing it out there...could this song be aimed at either Matt Rubano or Matthew Fazzi? I read the oral history article in Alternative Press and it seems like it could fit.

  General Comment:I think this song may be Adam's final message in song-form to Chauntelle Dupree... I seem to recall 'everything must go' was about her and mentioned a lot of religious references such as this song. In the line "at the heart of your convictions sits a broken man that needs to understand" Adam seems to be just wanting nothing but to understand what happened with their relationship. I don't know if this is correct at all though since he's married with a child now.

  Lyric Correction:Loving this. Glad to hear some new stuff from them. Also, some of the later chorus parts say:
  this is all i ever asked 'of' you instead of 'from'.
