I turn the music up, I got my records on
I shut the world outside until the lights come on
Maybe the streets alight, maybe the trees are gone
I feel my heart start beating to my favourite song

And all the kids they dance, all the kids all night
Until Monday morning feels another life
I turn the music up
I'm on a roll this time
And heaven is in sight

I turn the music up, I got my records on
From underneath the rubble sing a rebel song
Don't want to see another generation drop
I'd rather be a comma than a full stop

Maybe I'm in the black, maybe I'm on my knees
Maybe I'm in the gap between the two trapezes
But my heart is beating and my pulses start
Cathedrals in my heart

As we saw oh this light I swear you, emerge blinking into
To tell me it's alright
As we soar walls, every siren is a symphony
And every tear's a waterfall
Is a waterfall
Oh
Is a waterfall
Oh oh oh
Is a is a waterfall
Every tear
Is a waterfall
Oh oh oh

So you can hurt, hurt me bad
But still I'll raise the flag

Oh
It was a wa wa wa wa wa-aterfall
A wa wa wa wa wa-aterfall

Every tear
Every tear
Every teardrop is a waterfall

Every tear
Every tear
Every teardrop is a waterfall

Every tear
Every tear
Every teardrop is a waterfall

Song Meaning:If you listen to the lyrics, this song is about rising up from a destroyed city (perhaps after a war or natural disaster) and being positive amidst the pain and suffering. I love it! It's so positive and uplifting. I'll admit, at first, when I heard this as their new single, I was a little worried. But give it a few listens and study the lyrics and you'll see its a beautiful and great Coldplay song :)

General Comment:In my eyes the song is about looking at life in a positive light regardless of what bad fortune may come your way you accept it and move on staying positive as life is what you make it and from this attitude happiness will be yours. Every Siren is a Symphony...Every Tear a Waterfall....

General Comment:Personally, anyone who takes walks in the morning needs to listen to this. You may want to put off keeping yourself in good shape, because of others pointing at you and laughing ion the past. But remember that if they do not hurt you in any way, those tears you held in from pressure and anxiety flow out into a torrent of power and strength.

Coldplay's message here is that, joy can create powerful tears just as pressure, pain and anxiety can. Even happiness has its waterfalls.

General Comment:This song is about the apocalypse or the end of the world being near. First, he tries to forget about what's happening on the outside by closing in from it with it's music. Then, he sees music might help him fight the outside world, from the kid's dancing and he "sees heavin in sight". "From underneath the rubble sing a rebel song" means that it might seem like a fun pop song but he's singing lyrics to help save the world. He is basicly using music as a medium to speak with today's generation. If he can be a comma to this world, better then a full stop, meaning we are nothing but each and one of us can keep the story going on... Cathedrals in my heart refers to faith always lying in the bottom of our soul, we just need to reach out and believe, jump from the bad to the good (two trapeze). Now, every tear is a waterfall simply means that everytime someone cries or is in pain, it actually builds up to be a whole world that is hurting. And we need to wake up and start taking care of it.

My Interpretation:This is a fantastic song. I have always loved the 80's new wave sound. This song is very interesting lyrically as well. There are many themes and metaphors. I think a lot of the comments are right on but one thing I think that got missed is that it's not just about life and how we experience life and about keeping our chins up in the face of life's challenges.

There is another theme that goes along with this and it is very clearly portrayed in the video. Chris is also talking about how when we are young and innocent, we have this incredible, powerful positive energy and spirit. He is telling us to not lose that because that is what empowers us to make positive change in the world. When we lose that and give into the negative aspects of life, we effectively become walking zombies.

You can hear this when he talks about how the kids dance all night but when Monday comes that life is completely different (at work, part of "society" etc.) In the video, you see what appears to be a concrete, drab, dirty city but they show us that with what appears to be like children's sidewalk chalk, we can paint our dreams onto a dreary difficult life and turn it into something truly wonderful. And if we always focus on what's in our hearts, that truly powerful energy that beats in our chests and flows through our souls (the kind that we are born with as children) we will be empowered to do this. And no matter how much life tries to drag us down we will continue to raise the flag and hold onto this. With it, our spirits and souls can never be hurt no matter what.

Memory:My favorite part about the whole song is.. "Don't want to see another generation drop."
Generations are dropping and it's going too deep nowadays. We all have to help each other rise to the top for each individual, until they can't go any further. We need to try our best to get up and fight, but WE the people have to start loving people to get to the top. Hate will bring us all down.. hate doesn't make you stronger like some people think. We have to try our best.. life is too short to be sitting around being down about ourselves.

General Comment:I agree with you FloridaGuy... I think that Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall is about coping with grief and severe adversity which we humans suffer to the point of questioning whether we can live with the depth of debilitating grief and pain we experience... Listening to music and especially turning the music up is cathartic in that it shuts the world of negative thoughts out hence has an awe inspiring ability through tone, words etc that can lift the emotion out of the dark and into the light which can provide the oxygen to fuel a love to live from experiencing dark suicidal thoughts. "But my heart is beating and my pulses start...Cathedrals in my heart". In extreme pain/grief the heart beat can be frightening through rapid beats or slowing right down and music can stabilise it ... When experiencing deep grief it's only a matter of time with the right lyrics and sound that relief "(heaven) is in sight".

"Maybe I'm in the black, maybe I'm on my knees
Maybe I'm in the gap between the two trapezes
But my heart is beating and my pulses start
    Cathedrals in my heart

    I turn the music up
I'm on a roll this time
    And heaven is in sight

So music is the gift, godsend and an amazing form of immediate intervention for relieving extreme grief and pain hence "So you can hurt, hurt me bad But still I'll raise the flag"

This song can save lives and that's how powerful songs are and our popular musicians as they have the power to promote harmlessness and empower the people.. Especially the next generation who really have much more adversity than we can imagine due to the information highway they have access to with limited knowledge and they cannot be expected to process it at their age.. they are being taught aggression and violence through particular media, music and games and we as a society are losing grip and life is becoming more disconnected and extremely difficult for many across the world... Be it wars, injustice, torture, drug addiction, sex addiction, murder, suicide, death of loved ones, kids molested and murdered, you name it's all happening and it's bloody hard at times to hear or believe you heart is still beating... Or believe the tears will stop flowing hence the waterfall...

Sting "Be Still My Beating Heart"... Has just come to mind!!!
So Bravo to Coldplay... Great Stuff!!!!

That's the first comment I have ever made about a song so it's obviously made a huge impression and has moved me... Thanks for the movement Chris and Coldplay!!!
