I know where You stand, silent in the trees
And that's where I am, silent in the trees
Why won't You speak where I happen to be?
Silent in the trees, standing cowardly

I can feel Your breath
I can feel my death
I want to know You, I want to see
I want to say
Hello, hello
Hello, oh, hello

Da da, da da da, da-da
Da da, da da da, da-da
Da da, da da da, da-da
Da da, da da da, da-da

I know where You stand, silent in the trees
And that's where I am, silent in the trees
Why won't You speak where I happen to be?
Silent in the trees, standing cowardly

I can feel Your breath
I can feel my death
I want to know You, I want to see
I want to say

Hello (da da, da da da, da-da)
(Da da, da da da, da-da)
Hello (da da, da da da, da-da)
(Da da, da da da, da-da)
Hello, hello, hello, hello
(Da da, da da da, da-da)
(Da da, da da da, da-da)
Yeah (da da, da da da, da-da)
(Da da, da da da, da-da)

Oh, oh
Oh, oh
Oh, oh
Oh, oh
Oh, oh
Hello, hello (oh, oh)
Hello, hello (oh, oh)

    My Interpretation

This song is definitely my favourite song by these guys. I don't want to make people who don't believe in God annoyed, but it really is about Him. It reminds me of that quote from the book The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis, where the demon Screwtape writes "Do not be deceived, Wormwood. Our cause is never more in danger than when a human, no longer desiring, but still intending, to do our Enemy's will, looks round upon a universe from which every trace of Him seems to have vanished, and asks why he has been forsaken, and still obeys.” Tyler is looking around for traces of God, and he knows God is always at his side, but he can't see any visible traces of God. He longs for God, he wants to say hello, but God remains elusive. He is testing our faithfulness probably. God moves in mysterious ways...

Now I think this song has a double meaning, which makes me love it even more! When Adam in the Bible sinned, he felt unworthy to walk with God, so he hid in the trees. That is what we metaphorically do. I feel when I sin (again and again) so undeserving to be called a Child of God, and there seems to be a barrier between us. I long to cry out to Him, and walk with Him again, but I am ashamed. I long to say hello, as whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. I love this song so much, as it is so applicable to life. If you're still reading, thanks so much for reading my first post. I hope you like with my interpretation :)
