Lying in a field of glass
Underneath the overpass
Mangled in the shards of a mental frame
Woken from a dream by my own name
Well I was such a wretched man
Searching everywhere for a homeland
Now we are under the same sun
Feel it through the leaves, let it heal us

We are the same
We are both sane
Underneath the sycamore
We are the same
We are both sane
Underneath the sycamore

We were both broken in our own ways
Sifting through the rubble for the wrong things
I know you've got a vengeful heart
I cannot be stopped soon as I start
But you have seen your darkest rooms
And I have slept in makeshift tombs
And this is where we find our peace
This is where we are released

We are the same
We are both sane
Underneath the sycamore
We are the same
We are both sane
Underneath the sycamore

We are the same
We are both sane
Underneath the sycamore
We are the same
We are both sane
Underneath the sycamore

We are the same
We are both sane
Underneath the sycamore
We are the same
We are both sane
Underneath the sycamore

We are the same
We are both sane
Underneath the sycamore
We are the same
We are both sane
Underneath the sycamore

My first impression both of them are dead - and that she died before he did. That maybe she committed suicide, and he was devastated, so did the same. Or maybe she died in an accident, and he wasn't paying enough attention while driving thinking about that, and so died too.

Lying in a field of glass Underneath the overpass Mangled in the shards of a mental frame Woken from a dream by my own name

This makes it sound like a car accident - possibly being in a coma (woken from a dream by his own name) though that could also be him greeted in the afterlife. It could also not be a real accident, but a realization with the suddeness and destructiveness of a car accident.

Well I was such a wretched man Searching everywhere for a homeland Now we are under the same sun Feel it through the leaves, let it heal us

Obviously he was lost - he was "wretched" - looking for somewhere he belonged - possibly after her loss. What makes me think the most of death is "Now we are under the same sun" - implying that they weren't before, but are now, which is what makes me think that she was dead - and now he is as well. Although, if he's been in a coma, and just waking up, maybe he's referring to waking up again in the real world.

We are the same We are both saved Underneath the sycamore We are the same We are both saved Underneath the sycamore

I've heard this is what the insert says; I bought the album on itunes, I so don't know for sure. It's always sounded to me like he's not saying either saved or sane, but safe.. which could also imply death - they can't be hurt anymore. Although saved would imply finding each other, or being able to be together now.

We were both broken in our own ways Sifting through the rubble for the wrong things I know you've got a vengeful heart I cannot be stopped soon as I start

Sifting through the rubble of.. their past, broken lives, not noticing the good things that were possible? their failing relationship? Getting into huge fights over petty things that ultimately don't matter? She gets revenge, and once fighting, he'll keep at it just to keep at it, so they fight a lot about these things?

But you have seen your darkest rooms And I have slept in makeshift tombs This is where we find our peace This is where we are released

But they've each seen the worst possible, and so now they can be happy together. If dead, because the petty stuff is gone; there are no more bills and such to fight over. Although around here I start to think that maybe they aren't actually dead...

Anyways; I love this song. And the music video is depressing, but great.
