Blush wine and a good time elephant
On the cash bar later quite elegant
Yes you know, yes and no, yes you know what I mean.
Me and Moll are doing fine. What has happened to me. What has happened to me.

You rub your chin on my neck, moving it as
Crash some party with some moves as smooth as they come.
Blame a drink, spill a drink, blame the drinking again.
.....at the edge of my bed.

My bitter heartache
My sweet revenge
My excess removes your lack of friends.

Hey!

Recognize, realize, recognize me.
In my blue leather shoes, I hope you like me.
May I sit? Have a seat and a coffee please.
Me and Moll are doing fine. What has happened to me.
Awww what has happened to me.

I know it's troubling.
But not at all.
Does the three dollar chip ever warrant a phone call.

My bitter heartache
My sweet revenge
My access removes your lack of friends.

So you think you'll get away with having all my bones to play with
Build it better, take it back you're one slick fuck, I'll give you that
I bet you felt so naked when you laid out on my bed
Forget the shit you told me months ago but make sure that my shot might blow

Cause I've drawn some conclusions
I'm back with nosebleeds and bruises, tortured not gunshot
so get your ass up and use it
Surprise me, I would be
And why the hell don't you hate me
We're making this easy
I'm fine now.
No really.

General Comment:It's also, "to make sure that I shot my load." In a video of him singing it at Langdon St Cafe in Montpelier, Vermont he clarifies afterward saying, "If you think you just heard, 'shot my load,' you did." Such a good song!

Lyric Correction:Shouldn't it say "Build it better, take it back, you're one slick fuck I'll give you that" ?

General Comment:Joe posted this in a blog about Elephant, once,

"That song, and almost everything written before it, is about the first and only time I fell in love and was disappointed by someone."
