One of these days, the ground will drop out from beneath your feet
One of these days, your heart will stop and play it's final beat

One of these days, the clocks will stop and time won't mean a thing
One of these days, their bombs will drop and silence everything

But it's alright, yeah it's alright, said it's alright
Easy for you to say
Your heart has never been broken
Your pride has never been stolen
Not yet, not yet, one of these days
I bet your heart 'll be broken
I bet your pride 'll be stolen
I'll bet, I'll bet, I'll bet, I'll bet
One of these days, one of these days

One of these days, your eyes will close and pain will disappear
One of these days, you will forget to hope and learn to fear

But it's alright, yeah it's alright, said it's alright
Easy for you to say
Your heart has never been broken
Your pride has never been stolen
Not yet, not yet, one of these days
I bet your heart 'll be broken
I bet your pride 'll be stolen
I'll bet, I'll bet, I'll bet, I'll bet
One of these days, one of these days

But it's alright, yeah it's alright, said it's alright
Yeah it's alright
Don't say it's alright, don't say it's alright
Don't say it's alright
One of these days your heart will stop and play it's final beat

But it's alright, easy for you to say
Your heart has never been broken
Your pride has never been stolen
Not yet, not yet, one of these days
I bet your heart will be broken
I bet your pride will be stolen
I'll bet, I'll bet, I'll bet, I'll bet
One of these days
One of these days
One of these days

General Comment: I think this song uses a lot of metaphors to describe the the feeling of the deep hurt. By saying " your heart will stop and play it's final beat" or "the ground will fall beneaht your feet" is not to be taken in a literal sense but rather a way to describe the tremendous amount of hurt this person put them through. To me it's very obvious what this song is about. He is talking about a girl who broke his heart and didn't think twice about it. But he knows, in time, because what goes around comes around, that she will in turn get her heart broken. It's just a matter of time before it happens.

My Opinion:I like this song except for the words heart and pride should be exchanged for body and health. I'm tired of love songs. I want to hear songs about real people and what's important. If I were Dave I'd be writing this song about vets coming back with no limbs or people who get cancer, not some love gone bad. I won't give my story here in this comment, but what's really important losing a girlfriend to another person or losing an arm to a medical waste bin?

General Comment:This song was also played by the band as a memorial to the victims of a deadly disaster. So it is about death and loss allright. But it can be interpreted very personally. To me it heals all the cynicism that you can build up during a life time of isolating, enclosing pain over loss. I sang it, and when I came round to "Easy for you to say, your heart has never been broken" I cried tears of deep felt anger and pain, most of it not tagged to anything specific. Some wounds can't be healed, it seems. The end is inspiring: DON'T SAY IT'S ALLRIGHT. Everything matters, everything. In the end that brings relief: being able to notice it all, realizing that you are part of all that. I am not a cynic, to me this song is not cynical, it is tapping in to life force, how strange that may sound. I could give room to the pain and sadness by singing it out. With that it became part of a larger existence, and it stopped eating me away. I have noticed that a lot of the lyrics of the Foo Fighters are like that: they liberate from boundaries and bonds that are not yours but just imaginary layers over reality. By crying out your pain you can feel the love, brak through those layers. Which is quite special I think. You can't put that into a logical paradigm, or in a belief system. It's personal, based on experience, and it's bigger than our carefully constructed theories about life.

My Interpretation:for me this has a lot to do with death. I imagine a man who's lost a dear friend, and someone is trying to chear him up. You could also fill this in with relationships, but Grohl always sings this song live for people that just have passed away..

General Comment:Some people experience trauma their whole lives. Others experience none and can't truly understand unless they experience the same experience. I lost my brother, someone told me one day I must just let it go, life goes on, until he lost his son. He then apologized. It was a very emotional moment for me.

General Comment:I think this is a classic "what goes around comes around" song from a scorned lover. His ex broke his heart, and he wants her to be warned that it will happen to her someday. He is angry and wants her to feel the pain he feels.

General Comment:I love reading these meanings on each song, I wonder how many folks love to read these posts as well.

I believe that Dave has made it to enlightment and this is his Magnum opus, actually Dave agreed and stated that this was his best piece of music ever at the Philadelphia Tour Stop.

This song is about the enlightened vs unenlightened / sanity vs insanity and their inability to coexist.

The song is an argument between the two parties and the fact that Dave includes both parties in the song expresses his enlightenment.

General Comment:I've heard this song a million times, but I didn't pay attention to the lyrics until today and now I love it.

To me, this song is about someone trying to come to terms with the loss of a friend/family member. They're trying to move on, pretend everything's normal, but the people around the school/workplace are constantly reminding them with consolation and/or plain pity; even though they're sympathizing with them, it's still agonizing because all they want to do is move on. I'm probably seeing it this way because 1.) I went through it myself as a kid and 2.) it's the only way I can see the verses (or maybe it's called a "hook" in this case, IDK music terminology that well) and the chorus coinciding.

"One of these days the ground will drop out from beneath your feet
One of these days your heart will stop and play its final beat
One of these days the clocks will stop and time won't mean a thing
One of these days their bombs will drop and silence everything"

These are like the lines from someone who hasn't lost a loved one before. They don't know what to say, so they're telling this person the usually cliches lines: "the Lord works in mysterious ways," "these things happen," "they're in a better place." Maybe in this case it's something like "one of these days, you'll see them again."

    "Easy for you to say
Your heart has never been broken
Your pride has never been stolen
    Not yet not yet
    One of these days
I bet your heart'll be broken
I bet your pride'll be stolen
    I bet I bet I bet I bet"

This is like an angry, fed-up rant or thought in response to them. "Easy for you to say, you've never been through this before. One of these days you'll go through this too. And I bet those corny thoughts won't help you any more than they help me." I could be projecting all of this, though.

Song Meaning:This song is basically saying fuck optimism. Talk to me when you've been through what I've been through and felt what I've felt. Then I'll believe you when you say "it'll be alright"

In other words, don't just blindly say to someone that everything is going to be fine, because that just shows arrogance and it shows how naive you are. Life doesn't always work that way, sometimes it won't be alright, and sadly for some it will only be alright when their heart stops beating. That's when their pain will finally disappear.

So the next time you want to help someone or reassure them, don't blindly say it'll be alright, but actually consider their feelings and walk them through it, reassure them every step of the way. Show them that although you may or may not know what they are going through that you will be there for them.
