One of these days, the ground will drop out from beneath your feet
One of these days, your heart will stop and play its final beat

One of these days, the clocks will stop and time won't mean a thing
One of these days, their bombs will drop and silence everything

But it's alright, yeah it's alright, said it's alright
Easy for you to say
Your heart has never been broken
Your pride has never been stolen
Not yet, not yet, one of these days
I bet your heart 'll be broken
I bet your pride 'll be stolen
I'll bet, I'll bet, I'll bet, I'll bet
One of these days, one of these days

One of these days, your eyes will close and pain will disappear
One of these days, you will forget to hope and learn to fear

But it's alright, yeah it's alright, said it's alright
Easy for you to say
Your heart has never been broken
Your pride has never been stolen
Not yet, not yet, one of these days
I bet your heart 'll be broken
I bet your pride 'll be stolen
I'll bet, I'll bet, I'll bet, I'll bet
One of these days, one of these days

But it's alright, yeah it's alright, said it's alright
Yeah it's alright
Don't say it's alright, don't say it's alright
Don't say it's alright
One of these days your heart will stop and play its final beat

But it's alright, easy for you to say
Your heart has never been broken
Your pride has never been stolen
Not yet, not yet, one of these days
I bet your heart will be broken
I bet your pride will be stolen
I'll bet, I'll bet, I'll bet, I'll bet
One of these days
One of these days
One of these days

    My Interpretation

This song strikes me as a big fuck you to naive optimism. Of course it's easy to be positive and say it's all right when you haven't had to deal with anything real... and he'll bet life will catch up to the person, bite them in the ass, and then they'll finally understand.

I think this song is about when something big in your life screws up (such as a relationship), and everyone tells you it's alright, even though they have no idea what you're going through and don't really have a right to say that.

"But it's alright. Yeah it's alright. I said it's alright.

Easy for you to say. Your heart has never been broken. Your pride has never been stolen. Not yet, not yet."

i believe, from my personal experiences, that these lines of the song illustrate a situation in which a very important relationship of some kind has ended, and someone is trying to make this person feel better by saying that its alright, without knowing what the person is going through. to that, the person answers with "easy for you to say" because, as mentioned before, that someone doesnt know the pain this person is feeling from this situtation. then the person answers with " Not yet, not yet" which pretty much means that one day, eventually that someone will experience what the person is going through, and then obtain the right to say it'll be alright, because they themselves have experienced it.

thats just my take on those couple of lines... people may have a different opinion on it, but thats what i think anyway...

This song was also played by the band as a memorial to the victims of a deadly disaster. So it is about death and loss allright. But it can be interpreted very personally. To me it heals all the cynicism that you can build up during a life time of isolating, enclosing pain over loss. I sang it, and when I came round to "Easy for you to say, your heart has never been broken" I cried tears of deep felt anger and pain, most of it not tagged to anything specific. Some wounds can't be healed, it seems. The end is inspiring: DON'T SAY IT'S ALLRIGHT. Everything matters, everything. In the end that brings relief: being able to notice it all, realizing that you are part of all that. I am not a cynic, to me this song is not cynical, it is tapping in to life force, how strange that may sound. I could give room to the pain and sadness by singing it out. With that it became part of a larger existence, and it stopped eating me away. I have noticed that a lot of the lyrics of the Foo Fighters are like that: they liberate from boundaries and bonds that are not yours but just imaginary layers over reality. By crying out your pain you can feel the love, brak through those layers. Which is quite special I think. You can't put that into a logical paradigm, or in a belief system. It's personal, based on experience, and it's bigger than our carefully constructed theories about life.

I have always found this song to be fascinating.. I always thought that it was about two people talking about the different ways to die. But as I look at the lyrics it almost seems like an argument with the Grim Reaper. The Grim Reaper(death) is the first verse and then the person fighting death starts in verse three. The fighter is saying that he is not going yet therefore Deaths heart will b e broken and pride will be stolen because he didn't claim another victim...

Keep in mind that in the song the verses are song in different tones... death is all calm, collective, and even sounds a little old. He is explaining the facts of death, while the person who is fighting death is yelling and very aggressive. This song is a complete package with the lyrics and the way it is sung go together hand in hand.

    Song Meaning

This song is basically saying fuck optimism. Talk to me when you've been through what I've been through and felt what I've felt. Then I'll believe you when you say "it'll be alright"

In other words, don't just blindly say to someone that everything is going to be fine, because that just shows arrogance and it shows how naive you are. Life doesn't always work that way, sometimes it won't be alright, and sadly for some it will only be alright when their heart stops beating. That's when their pain will finally disappear.

So the next time you want to help someone or reassure them, don't blindly say it'll be alright, but actually consider their feelings and walk them through it, reassure them every step of the way. Show them that although you may or may not know what they are going through that you will be there for them.

I love reading these meanings on each song, I wonder how many folks love to read these posts as well.

I believe that Dave has made it to enlightment and this is his Magnum opus, actually Dave agreed and stated that this was his best piece of music ever at the Philadelphia Tour Stop.

This song is about the enlightened vs unenlightened / sanity vs insanity and their inability to coexist.

The song is an argument between the two parties and the fact that Dave includes both parties in the song expresses his enlightenment.

    <THE ENLIGHTENED INDIVIDUAL>

One of these days the ground will drop out from beneath your feet <YOU WILL FALL> One of these days your heart will stop and play its final beat <YOU MUST DIE> One of these days the clocks will stop and time won't mean a thing <TIME DOES NOT EXIST FOR TREES OR ANYTHING IN NATURE, ONCE MAN IS GONE THERE WILL BE NO NEED FOR IT> One of these days their bombs will drop and silence everything <THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT WILL END>

    <IT IS OK> But it's alright Yeah it's alright I said it's alright

<THE UnENLIGHTENED INDIVIDUAL> Easy for you to say Your heart has never been broken <HEART BROKEN AND PRIDE STOLEN ARE THE LAST STEPS TO ENLIGHTENMENT> Your pride has never been stolen <IT IS NOT AN EASY PATH, FRET WITH PAIN> Not yet not yet

One of these days I bet your heart'll be broken <HE IS WAGERING YOU TO WAKE, TO AWAKEN> I bet your pride'll be stolen <BY TAKING THE RISK YOU WIN IT> I bet I bet I bet I bet <JUST DO IT> One of these days One of these days

<THE ENLIGHTENED INDIVIDUAL> One of these days your eyes will close and pain will disappear <PEACE> One of these days you will forget to hope and learn to fear <LIVE IN THE NOW FORGET HOPE AND FEAR::: TO HOPE IS TO LIVE FOR THE FUTURE AND TO FEAR IS TO REMEMBER THE PAST>

But it's alright Yeah it's alright I said it's alright

<THE UnENLIGHTENED INDIVIDUAL> Easy for you to say Your heart has never been broken Your pride has never been stolen Not yet not yet

One of these days I bet your heart'll be broken I bet your pride'll be stolen I bet I bet I bet I bet One of these days One of these days

    But it's alright Yeah it's alright I said it's alright Yes it's alright <IT IS OK>

    Don't say it's alright Don't say it's alright Don't say it's alright

<THE ENLIGHTENED INDIVIDUAL> One of these days your heart will stop and play its final beat But it's alright <IT IS OK>

<THE UnENLIGHTENED INDIVIDUAL> Easy for you to say Your heart has never been broken Your pride has never been stolen Not yet not yet

One of these days I bet your heart will be broken I bet your pride will be stolen I bet I bet I bet I bet

    Song Meaning

I think the meaning is the fear of life and how it can come to an end. But when you finally come to realization, you seem to accept it and be alright with it.

Yeah..it's like there's a certain group of people trying to belittle the person in the song or the person's own conscience, his/her own ''ME'', the vision of her/himself is doing so. It's like the person is always thinking that these bad things will happen.. and they will if the person thinks about it too much.

I'm like that. When everything is alright, I was always think about the future and how thing's could go wrong in months, weeks, years, whatever... Anyway, below's some bullshit I made up:

One of these days, your eyes will close and pain will disappear. <- Suicidal thoughts?? People trying to convince the person that resting, just relaxing a bit will help?? Or people telling the person to kill him/herself?? One of these days, you will forget to hope and learn to fear. <- The person is very depressed and loses his/her exuberance, starts to fear, anxiety comes in. Or somebody else is pushing him/her down like that.

But it's alright. Yeah it's alright. I said it's alright.

^ The person in the song tries to convince him/herself that everything is fine but can't.

One of these days, the ground will drop out from beneath your feet. <-- The person is weak. He/she can't do anything with joy. A possible depression caused by the broken relationship.

One of these days, your heart will stop and play it's final beat. <-- The fear of dying, suicide? Heart attack? The person doesn't feel healthy anymore, the person's dangerously condescending self image causes this.. Or the person fears he/she will not feel love anymore after the break-up, or when the break-up comes. (One of these days + will, so it MIGHT come)

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Dreamwalker
Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.

Head > Heels
Ed Sheeran
“Head > Heels” is a track that aims to capture what it feels like to experience romance that exceeds expectations. Ed Sheeran dedicates his album outro to a lover who has blessed him with a unique experience that he seeks to describe through the song’s nuanced lyrics.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
