Oh, b-baby don't you be so mad because I barely remember,
As she tries to recognise me with the eyes she saw me with in December.
As she stands, I realise that it's actually not a good thing,
And it's so tough because she dare not go, I'd have given 'em another adventure.
All her friends in the alleyway shout back,
She can't hear them.

But you're never gonna get my love,
We can only play in the sun,
Get up in the morning and run,
You'll be frustrated til the day that you're done.

He got punched in the mouth for sticking his nose in other people's business,
No good solution, always on the verge of some resolution.
Well, tough luck! It may take a thousand years, but I think we can do it.
Best friends fight, but they never enjoy life as good as when they abuse it.
He said the soldier is a necessity, in light of all the failures of man.

But you're never gonna get their love,
We can only play in the sand,
You get tired when the days are too long,
You get lonely when the days are gone.

He could never mention it or hear it now
without quick tears in his eyes

Cause you're never gonna get my love!
We can only play in the sand.
You get tired when the days are too long,
You get lonely when the days are gone.

Oh, you're never gonna get this love!
We can roll around in these arms,
That's about as far as we go,
Get up in the morning and run!

Song Meaning:I do not know why these idiots bother arguing about the lyrics.
At any rate, I believe that the lyrics refer to a war veteran that is showing signs of posttraumatic stress disorder, most prominently blunted (flattened) affect, which is when a person is less responsive to emotional stimuli, in this case love. The lines: “You’re never gonna get my love”, and “He could never mention it or hear it now without quick tears in his eyes”, the first alludes to the absence of the emotion of love and the second illustrates how the person has been negatively affected by “playing in the sand”. Playing in the sand [box] is clearly a reference to the Middle East i.e. the Gulf War and we all know how much sand is over there. I am very confident with this answer.

General Comment:This is the lyric above:
"He said the soldier is an assistant, they line up for the 50th of May."

well this is what I hear:

"He said the soldier is a necessity, in light of all the failures of man."

this to me makes a lot more sense to me...

Lyric Correction:The only thing I'd change at this point is in the last chorus. Rather than

"Oh you’re never gonna get this love
    We can run around
That’s about as far as we go"

    it's

"Oh you’re never gonna get this love
We can roll around in the dark*
That’s about as far as we go"

It's definitely not JUST "we can run around" and I watched Jules singing it live streaming from Bonnaroo and it seemed like "roll around in the dark" made more sense than "roll around in these arms" or any of the other things people have suggested. ANYWAYS. I really like this song, and how it kind of has a 70's rock vibe. *cough* Thin Lizzy ;)

    General Comment:Few Corrections!!!!!

instead of "As she stands, I realise that it's actually not a good thing"
it's - "and she's starting to realise that its actually not a good thing"

instead of "And it's so tough.."
it's - "and now shes stuck..."

    instead of "resolution"
    it's - "reVolution"

instead of "He said the soldier is an assistant, they line up for the 50th of May."
it's- "he said 'the soldier is a necessity in light of all the failures of man'"

General Comment:I'm still not convinced that it's "We can only blame the sun" even though every lyric site is saying that, or something about the sun.. It just doesn't sound like he's saying sun to me. And also, changing what @4chordsoftheapocolypse wrote for the last bit, I thought it might be "We can roll around in the dark" ...Maybe?
But whatever the lyrics, this song is bloody brilliant! It's really Strokes-y, yet totally not at the same time. All in all this it's a pretty tidy album, I'm definitely not disappointed :)

General Comment:Isn't it "We can only play in the sand" instead of "blame the sun"? Like, we have fun together with this fling, but you'll never get my real love. You'll get too tired of me by then.
