When the world gets too heavy
Put it on my back
I'll be your levy
You are taking me apart
Like bad glue an a get well card

It was always you
Falling for me
Now there's always time
Calling for me
I'm the light blinking at the end of the road
Blink back to let me know

I'm a fly that's trapped in a web
But I'm thinking that
My spider's dead
Lonely, lonely little life
I could kid myself
In thinking that I'm fine

It was always you
Falling for me
Now there's always time
Calling for me
I'm the light blinking at the end of the road
Blink back to let me know

That I'm skin and bone
Just a king and rusty throne
Oh, the castle's under siege
But the sign outside says "Leave me alone"

It was always you
Falling for me
Now there's always time
Calling for me
I'm the light blinking at the end of the road
Blink back to let me know (it was always you)
Blink back to let me know (it was always you)

Clearly he is in love with someone and is trying to do as much for them as possible to show them this ("When the world gets too heavy put it on my back, I'll be your levy"), but that person is either disregarding his kindness or hurting him in return ("You are taking me apart like bad glue on a get well card"). The 'get well card' is a symbol of his affection and what he is doing for his love, and the 'bad glue' symbolises the hurt directed towards him from that person which is, as he says, "taking me apart".

I get the feeling that this was someone that used to like/be in love with him ("It was always you falling for me") and now he's desperately trying to get them back.

I cannot for the life of me figure out what "Now there's always time calling for me" means. Perhaps it means that he is prepared to wait forever for this person.

He's trying desperately to show this person that he loves them, and is searching desperately for a sign that they feel the same way ("I'm the light blinking at the end of the road, blink back to let me know"). The 'light' meaning that he believes he is best for this person and the 'blinking' is a metaphor for letting the person know how he feels, and his hope that they will 'blink back'.

He is trapped in his love for this person ("I'm a fly that's trapped in a web") but he believes that he may be trapped forever ("But I'm thinking that my spider's dead" - the spider being his way out; the spider is this other person admitting that they feel the same way).

He is obviously lonely, and this has made him depressed, though he puts on a mask to appear fine to those around him ("Lonely, lonely little life, I could kid myself thinking that I'm fine").

This whole situation has worn him down completely ("That I'm skin and bone" - meaning that there is nothing left of him but skin and bone; he has sacrificed a lot for this person to try to make them happy, at a great cost (emotionally and mentally) to himself).

He used to be a strong person, but cannot handle it any longer. (Just a king and a rusty throne oh, the castle's under siege - 'king' symbolising his strength, and the 'rusty throne' symbolising the deterioration of this strength. The castle could be his mind, which is under attack, which could then be a metaphor for his mental suffering.)

He wants to deal with things himself, and doesn't want help from anyone else ("But the sign outside says 'leave me alone'").

Please, let me know what you think about my interpretation - Blake.

I mean this CD is full of mixed emotions. Beautiful album, nonetheless, I'm proud of the boys. They've grown.

"but the sun outside says 'leave me alone'" - is it not the sign? Beautiful song anyway, definitely my favourite off V&V!

A very sweet song. I like the feeling I get; reminds me of "Northern Downpour" a bit :)

    My Interpretation

I love the line "I'm a fly that's trapped in a web, but I'm thinking that my spider's dead"

I think that he's in love with a girl that he can't get over (i.e. trapped) but she no longer pays any attention to him.

This whole song it amazing :D

I think he's battling with someone he loves, and he obivously still loves her by the line "When the world gets too heavy Put it on my back, I'll be your levy"

but shes starting to get over him and its tearing him apart "You are taking me apart Like bad glue on a get well card"

And she was really in love with him, but he was always busy and he never made time for her and and it now killing him, so he's trying really hard to make time. "It was always you falling for me Now there's always time calling for me I'm the light blinking at the end of the road Blink back to let me know"

And she trapped him with her love and he didn't appreciated until she was gone. "I'm a fly that's trapped in a web But I'm thinking that my spider's dead Lonely, lonely little life I could kid myself thinking that I'm fine"

    I can't get over the line "I could kid myself thinking that I'm fine.". I don't think he's happy. : /

I think out of all their songs this is the most obvious what its about. Doesn't really need the meaning interpretted when its so transparent already

Totally nerdy, but this song makes me think of the Harry Potter books and the Snape/Lily situation.

I think this song I so metaphorical and I love it. I think that the first part of the song is him telling someone that he will always be there for them no matter how much they hurt him. The chorus he is obviously speaking to someone that he cares for dearly and just wants them to say that they care for him back. The next verse I took as he is stuck inside of his mind and he wants to find a way out but he is trapped within his life and hes just trying to act like he is okay. The third verse I took as he feels he doesn't look his best and he doesn't want whomever he is singing to, to see him like that, but they keep coming back.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.
