If at some point we all succumb
For goodness sake, let us be young.
'Cause time gets harder to outrun,
And I'm nobody, I'm not done.
With a cool, cool breeze and dirty knees,
I rest on childhood memories.
We all got old at breakneck speed,
Slow it down, go easy on me.

Go easy on me.

Put a wetsuit on. Come on, come on.
Grow your hair out long. Come on, come on.
Put a t-shirt on. Do me wrong, do me wrong, do me wrong.

If it's up and after you,
What do you suppose that you would do?
You're all whacked out from lack of sleep,
You blame it on the friends you keep.
Well, you wanna do things differently,
Go do them independently.
We all got old at breakneck speed,
Slow it down, go easy on me.

Go easy on me.

Put a wetsuit on. Come on, come on.
Grow your hair out long. Come on, come on.
Put a t-shirt on. Do me wrong, do me wrong, do me wrong.

Put a wetsuit on. Come on, come on.
Grow your hair out long. Come on, come on.
Put a t-shirt on. Do me wrong, do me wrong, do me wrong.

Does holy water make you pure?
Submerged, your vision's just obscured.
You're a lot like me, in up to our knees.
In over your chest is way too deep.

So, put a wetsuit on.

My Opinion:I think the wetsuit should be taken literally - go to the beach, put a wetsuit on, go surfing, grow long hair, wear t-shirts.

Basically just do stuff for fun and freedom while you can; surfing is surely one of the free-est ways to do that.

So go on then - get a wetsuit and hit the beach!

Song Meaning:I had an epiphany the other day and realised (I think) that the line' does holy water make you pure?' is basically asking if we have tom get older to live. The wetsuit is a metaphor for accepting that you have to get older and grow up, and the line 'do me wrong, do me wrong, do me wrong' is just asking for life to throw what it can at him.

Nobody wants to get older but it's something we have to do - but we can cling to youth; wear a t shirt, grow your hair out.

    My two cents.

General Comment:Does holy water make you pure? <-- (god, religion)
Submerged your vision's just obscured <-- (submerged in religion)
    You're a lot like me <-- (...)
In up to our knees <-- (in just enough, to the max)
In over your chest is way too deep <-- (at a certain point its to much)

A wetsuit - protection from the denigration of individuality and youth freedoms.

General Comment:I think this song and the whole mantra behind it is about allowing yourself room to make mistakes and be young and foolish while you still can. When you're young you're expected to be stupid but our time for irresponsibility and irrationality is limited,so take advantage of it because youth is fleeting. I think "timhall" does have a point with the wetsuit representing something more than just a random outer-garment. But instead of it being a conformity example,I imagine that the "wetsuit" is a metaphor for keeping out the water, namely "responsibility". He's running away from adulthood and time. That one lyric "Slow it down,go easy on me" is constantly being repeated. He's begging for more time to be carefree because once the time comes to grow up and be an adult there's no turning back. Basically,be foolish while you can ;). Although,I lean more toward Steve Jobs's way of thinking,"Stay Foolish. Stay Hungry." ;). Why ever stop? I say that LIFE is limited, only when you're dead is it over, here on Earth anyhow :).

General Comment:I absolutely love the Vaccines, the album is brilliant. This song was the only one I skipped over when I first got it, but now its my favourite, without a doubt. Makes me feel all reminiscent.

General Comment:i honestly thought this was about conforming to the culture around you whether you like it or not, i thought putting on a wetsuit was a metaphor for making yourself up to have an outward appearance that is on par with what the culture says you should be like to be cool or whatever

haha sometimes i romanticize things too much

Song Meaning:Justin Young (Vaccines' frontman) said this about "Wetsuit"
"This is a song about not wanting to get old. The lyrics are silly and they’re supposed to be. I love the drum beat."

General Comment:razzledazzlerose (and the article they quoted) are absolutely right. It's also about embracing your youth and doing stupid things while you still have time to do them.

"Come on, Come on, Do me wrong"

    :) amazing song
