  My Opinion:I think this song is about how her and Derek Wibley had to divorce.
  Because the song is about how much she loves him yet she HAS to leave him for the better of her career.
  The relationship with Brody Jenner was a showbiz push to get her back in the lime light. I personally feel her management team were a bit like "Sum 41 - no no no, Kardashians - yes yes yes"
  Obviously we cant see what their relationship was like but most of Goodbye Lullaby is about the love and happiness of their marriage... So if it was so great why she divorce him???

  My Opinion:I'd like to agree with a majority of the comments that it's about breaking up with her boyfriend, but I honestly think it's about her committing suicide and saying her last goodbyes to her lover.
  The lullaby part sort of settled the whole thing for me, as though her lover is singing her last lullaby before she goes forever.

  Song Meaning:Well what I remember bout this song is my brother. Half brother. He's far away from me cause I'm with my dad and he's with our mom. I miss them both so much. When I first laid eyes on him, I know I was hooked, I love my brother so much. He cries when I leave, I couldn't bear looking at him before I board my plane.
  Can't hide what has come, can't hide that I had to leave again. I wanted to be there as he grows up, but I have to be far away from him to help shape his future. This is my song to him, I wanted him to know that even though I temporarily need to say goodbye to him for a long time, he should know how much his big sister loves him.

  General Comment:After hearing Avril talk about it on the Goodbye Lullaby DVD, it sounds like it's about Deryck. But I agree, it can be interpreted in many different ways.
  
  
  For me, this describes my relationship with my ex. We were constantly fighting, and though we were good for each other in many ways, we were also terrible. We're still best friends, and I still love him with all of my heart. So despite saying goodbye to our relationship and the romantic love, I hope he always knows that I love him so.
  
  I don't know. This just hits me hard because it's so achingly beautiful and relevant.

  General Comment:Going by the music video, she has aranged to meet her fella at a nice hotel for a romantic evening and he didn't turn up and left her standing their like a idiot and how sad she feels that he has let go like this instead of telling her civily and you can tell in the video she is thinking ' well this is it really its over, time to move on'

  My Opinion:To me this song is all about how she had to breakup with her boyfriend/husband, because it's for the better. She knows it's what's best because they aren't made for each other. However, love never dies and she will always love him no matter what.
  
  I can relate to this song because my boyfriend and I were so incredibly happy, we had nicknames for each other like Sunshine and he has the most gorgeous brown eyes. But during the end of our relationship we constantly fought and in the end he was annoyed with me. So the best thing for me to do was walk away from the relationship because he already done so. I let him know I always love him and will never get over him. He'll always be my sunshine even ever the things we said to each other...

  My Opinion:This is probably the best song on Goodbye Lullaby. I love it. It's beautiful and dark. Reminds me of Avril's other song, Naked.

  My Opinion:I don't think it has to be about a couple breaking up.
  Maybe it is a couple, but she has to go away for a while. It does say "Goodbye for now."
  But it is a lullaby, and it makes me think of a parent saying goodbye to a child before leaving work, etc. It doesn't specify that she's going to be gone for a long time, just "for now." There's definitely an element of the separation hurting (distract me with your eyes/rhymes) but I feel like a lot of people a too quick to assume that everything is a love song/break up song/death song.
  Even so, this song reminds me every time I hear it that I'm eventually going to have to go to college, and so will my boyfriend, and we won't be able to be together and it breaks my heart.
  But then I just think of it as someone saying a temporary goodbye to someone she loves, just for a few hours or days.

  General Comment:I can so relate to this. Loving someone so much and yet you just have to let them go. Reassuring them that the love is there to stay despite having to say goodbye.
