Are there no fighters left here anymore?
Are we the generation we've been waiting for?
Are we patiently burning, waiting to be saved?

Our heroes are icons that mellow with age
Following rules that they once disobeyed
They're now being lead when they used to lead the way

Do you still believe in all the things
That you stood by before?
I hope they're on the front lines
Or at home keeping score
Do you care to be the layer of the bricks that seal your fate
Or would you rather be the architect
Of what we might create?

Go!

They laid out the blueprints
They poured down a base
Concrete solutions to slow our decay
But when they are gone
Who the fuck's gonna take their place?

Yeah, will it be the cynic, the critics galore
They say "how pathetic" passed out on the floor
This trustee complicit
Who collectively ignore

Do you still believe in all the things
That you stood by before?
I hope they're on the front lines
Or at home keeping score
Do you care to be the layer of the bricks that seal your fate
Or would you rather be the architect
Of what we might create?

Don't you remember when you were young
And you wanted to set the world on fire?
Somewhere deep down, I know you do.
And don't you remember when we were young
And we wanted to set the world on fire?
'Cause I still am, and I still do.
Make no mistake, we are not afraid
To bear the burden of repeating
What they're thinking anyway.
Let's raise the stakes
On the bet we made
Let's decide to be the architects,
The masters of our fate

Yeah, we still believe in all the things
That we stood by before.
And after everything we've seen
Maybe even more
I know we're not the only ones
And we were not the first
And unapologetically
We stand behind each word

My Interpretation:In my opinion this is another one about the society we are living in today. We let the government and corps push us around without us ever standing up for ourselves. I believe that the word "Architect" in the song really means "individuals." People who aren't part of the crowd. People who do things they want, what they like for their own reasons and aren't following others blindly like cattle to the dog.
"Are there no fighters left here anymore?
Are we the generation we've been waiting for?
Are we patiently burning, waiting to be saved?"
"Our heroes are icons that mellow with age
Following rules that they once disobeyed
They're now being lead when they used to lead the way"
People before us built up this land and we are allowing it to fall again. Are we going to allow this? Are we going to stand aside and allow these things to continue?
    "They laid out the blueprints
    They poured down a base
Concrete solutions to slow our decay
    But when they are gone
Who the fuck's gonna take their place?"< Who's going to be next? Will all the hero's die out? All the "Architects"?
This song is a really powerful and inspirational piece of work. I love it and love RA.

My Interpretation:This song tells us how our role models and leaders have become scared. "Are there no fighters left here anymore?" Says that we used to be rebels until you became filled with fear. And it shows that the singer is still filled with anger.

My Opinion:This is my favorite song on this album. I have not been a long-time fan, and mostly the songs I listen to by them are their singles (judge me, if you want), but the bigger reason I like them is because, to me, they are an enormous source of inspiration. Whenever I listen to ANY of their songs I feel empathy for whatever cause they're singing about, and it makes me want to be a better person. Even though their hardcore fans say they aren't the same anymore, that their older albums are much better, these guys still deserve the praise they get all over the world, because they sing for important causes, mostly, and that makes all the difference. Other bands should aspire to be more like them. Also, I think they're still pretty amazing.

Song Meaning:firstly against me wouldn't be viewed in that way by rise against, tom gabel the lead singer of against me is about the same age as tim from rise against against me isn't older, secondly rise against wouldn't be pissed about against me being on a major because rise against has been on a major longer than against me have, so that rules the hole against me discrediting out. it does have a connection to the against me song. i think basically about how alot of what people try to change and alter in the world for the better is incredably hard to do so it's easy to get jaded and let the struggle wear you down. it's a song to rejuvenate the belief in what we are doing, to not let it go to waste, the need to keep the fight going although it seems utterly hopless, tim is too intelligent to be pointing this negatively at against me, its idiots who talk about against me selling out or some crap that tim wouldn't like

My Interpretation:obviously there are no right/wrong answers and i agree with everyone. but i also think that this song has a lot to do with the punk scene in general. of course it's still mainly focused on how we need to make a change in how the world is being run but i love the against me reference to teenage anarchist. the reason they made that song was because it was like their last testament to them being a punk band and they pretty much talked about how they gave up on it but here Tim tries to convince us that the punk community is still very much alive and we can still make a difference. i think in the last bit he even suggests that its even stronger today than it was before: "yea we still believe in all the things that we stood by before, and after everything we've seen, maybe even more"

General Comment:I think that 'Don't you remember when you were young,And you wanted to set the world on fire?' also refers to the song black masks and gasoline because he sings: 'I have an American Dream, but it involves black masks and gasoline, one day I'll turn these thoughts into screams,at a world turned its back down on me' and the made in back in the days they were younger thats my 2 cents :P

General Comment:The "setting the world on fire" line isn't the only reference to Against Me; there are quite a few scattered throughout the song. I don't think the song is directed towards Tom specifically, because it sounds more like Tim's speaking to the audience. I think Tim's just using Tom as the perfect example of someone who had strong "punk" values that faded with age. Basically I think he's pointing Tom out in hopes he might change (especially now he's not on Sire anymore), telling his fans that he's still in the fight and wont give up on them like so many other artists, and finally encouraging them not to give up either.

General Comment:@WillCreary, dude, don't post the lyrics if you don't know what they are. I'm guessing you just downloaded the album and started typing, since the CD came with a booklet.

Lyric Correction:The lyrics are supposed to be "ARE YOU out there on the front lines or at home keeping score?" It's written that way in the booklet, and it makes much more sense.

That said, I'd say that this song is meant both for the older generation and the younger generation.

For the older people, the song is questioning and challenging them--where has the rebellious spirit gone, the one that wanted to change the world and "set [it] on fire?" Do you guys still care? Or are you just going to sit back, sit at "home keeping score?"

For the younger people, my generation, this song is a call to action! It's our turn now; let's step forward, change this world for the better, and be the "architect" of our own future.
