I met a girl in east L.A.
In floral shorts as sweet as May
She sang in eights in two-barrio chords
We fell in love, but not in court (La-la-la-la-la-la-la)

I don't sp', I don't sp'
Ah ah ah ah ah America Americano, ah ah ah ah ah America Americano

Mis canciones son de la re-revolución
Mi corazón me duele por mi generación
If you love me we can marry on the west coast
On a Wednesday en el verano en agosto

I don't speak your, I don't speak your language, oh no (la-la-la-la-la-la-la))
I don't speak your, I won't speak your, won't speak
Your Jesús Cristo (la-la-la-la-la-la-la)

Ah ah ah ah ah America Americano, ah ah ah ah ah America Americano

I will fight for, I have fought for how I love you (la-la-la-la-la-la-la)
I have cried for, I will die for how I care (la-la-la-la-la-la-la)
In the mountains, las campanas están sonando (la-la-la-la-la-la-la)
Todos los chicos (chicas) y los chicos (chicas) están besando (La-la-la-la-la-la-la)

I don't speak your, I don't speak your language, oh no (la-la-la-la-la-la-la)
I don't speak your, I won't speak your Jesús Cristo (la-la-la-la-la-la-la)
I don't speak your, I don't speak your Americano (la-la-la-la-la-la-la)
I don't speak your, I won't speak your Jesús Cristo (la-la-la-la-la-la-la)

Ah ah ah ah ah America Americano, ah ah ah ah ah America Americano
Ah ah ah ah ah America Americano, ah ah ah ah ah America Americano

Don't you try to catch me, don't you try to catch me
No, no, no, no I'm living on the edge of
Living on the edge of the law, law, law, law

Don't you try to catch me, don't you try to catch me
No, no, no, no don't you try to catch me
Living on the edge of the law, law, law, law

General Comment:You are all wrong. It's about social justice for Mexican-Americans. GaGa said it herself.

Song Meaning:The song is about the unjust laws that exist in America, particularly the immigration and gay rights laws. She parallels both by creating a senario in which she meets a girl from east L.A. (heavily hispanic population) and falls in love with her but can't marry due to the laws prohibiting gay marriage i.e. the lines "we fell in love but not in court."

As to the "I don't speak your Americano/Languageono/Jesus Cristo" I think that's just her refusing to use the type of rhetoric that is used to justify the laws. Like how christianity is used to justify the anti-gay rights laws and how the notion of America and and the criticism that immigrants get for not knowing how to speak english are used to discriminate against them. Also, languageono is just a play on the word language. In the spanish parts she just talks about the struggle for immigrants/gays and how both gays/immigrants fight for their rights and love and how she's there supporting a fighting along with them.

Also remember, Gaga said that she wrote this song as a response to the Arizona immigration laws, so that pretty much explains the "Don't you try and catch me" lines.

My favorite lines are "In the mountain las campanas estan sonado, todo los chicos (chicas) y los chicos (chicas) se estan besando" I just think it creates beautiful imagery of a marriage between two people of the same sex. I REALLY HOPE THIS BECOMES A SINGLE! <333

General Comment:This song is about oppression in America. Its supposedly a free country and yet Immigrants, gays and people of other religions are considered second class citizens and must abide by laws set by the majority. Her songs ALWAYS have more than one meaning.

General Comment:Obviously she is talking about the issues of gay rights and immigration. A great song, very fun, very catchy, love the sounds in it. I love the line I won't speak your Jesus Cristo, obviously it is talking about how Americans interpret Jesus and Christianity and how some make it about hatred of groups of people.

Song Meaning:I like the lyrics "If you love me we can marry on the west coast/On a Wednesday en el verano, en agosto" (on a wednesday in the summer, in august). It refers to Prop 8 being overturned on August 4th in California, on Wednesday Aug. 4. Very clever i'd say.

General Comment:I think she said that this song was about the Arizona immigration law. It would certainly fit the "Don't try to catch me" lines.

    Also, I thought she sings:
    I don't speak your languigioso

    and not:
I don't speak your language oh no.

The first line would fit the context of the Arizona immigration law. It has this sort of condescending tone of an American trying to speak Spanish.
