Hey! Hey! Hey!
I don't like walking around this old and empty house
So hold my hand, I'll walk with you, my dear
The stairs creak as you sleep, it's keeping me awake
It's the house telling you to close your eyes

Some days I can't even trust myself
It's killing me to see you this way

Cause though the truth may vary
This ship will carry
Our bodies safe to shore

Hey! Hey! Hey!
There's an old voice in my head that's holding me back
Well tell her that I miss our little talks
Soon it will all be over, and buried with our past
We used to play outside when we were young
And full of life and full of love

Some days I don't know if I am wrong or right.
Your mind is playing tricks on you my dear

Though the truth may vary
This ship will carry
Our bodies safe to shore

Hey!
Don't listen to a word I say
Hey!
The screams all sound the same
Hey!

Though the truth may vary
This ship will carry
Our bodies safe to shore

You're gone, gone, gone away
I watched you disappear
All that's left is a ghost of you
Now we're torn, torn, torn apart
There's nothing we can do
Just let me go, we'll meet again soon
Now wait, wait, wait for me
Please hang around
I'll see you when I fall asleep

Hey!
Don't listen to a word I say
Hey!
The screams all sound the same
Hey!

Though the truth may vary
This ship will carry
Our bodies safe to shore

Don't listen to a word I say
Hey!
The screams all sound the same
Hey!

Though the truth may vary
This ship will carry
Our bodies safe to shore

Though the truth may vary
This ship will carry
Our bodies safe to shore

Though the truth may vary
This ship will carry
Our bodies safe to shore

My Interpretation:People can view this song many in different ways. I think this song is about a man and a woman who are a couple, but the man died. But, the woman loves this man that his voice is still in her head. They are having a conversation; for example:

"I don't like walking around this old and empty house
So hold my hand, I'll walk with you, my dear"

I also found clues in this song that the man or at least one of them is dead:

"Soon it will all be over, and buried with our past
We used to play outside when we were young
And full of life and full of love"

I have no idea if I'm right on this, but that's what I think.

General Comment:I think this song is about the fears we encounter in life and how we get past them. The female singer talks about "this old and empty house" symbolizing lonelniess. It also could be a symbol of a difficult past. Then the lyrics say "the truth may vary this, ship will carry on" saying that even though life sometime purposes a difficult truth life will keep on moving.

General Comment:I use the band "Of 'Monsters AND Men" to worship. They are not satanic; however they do portray (using their art) their own interpretations, of creation, destruction and life. The triage of all that is sacred as well as dark. Evil itself is a very rare thing. Evil must be pure, just as that which is divine. The only thing is, pure evil, (Matter.) Cannot exist in the same places that are divine (Anti-matter) All I am simply trying to convey, is this. Religion. Theology. Philosophy. It doesn't matter what you believe; for art is a part of god. God is in everything. Evil is also god. We as a species are as well, which is why we have a conscience.<--- The ability to know the difference. You are currently showing me, that you are not yet truly aware of god as a universal energy. A unified spirit. And for this, I pray, that it will borrow my own energy, and place it within you. So that perhaps, you will (Feel) god, for that is how one must speak to god. Your own mind, is a part of it. God does not judge; he lets you judge yourself. In doing so, god grows within us, and also grows in power.

My Interpretation:I believe that the band is describing Alzheimer's disease. The song emphasizes the burden of the disease that weighs down the patient and to those with whom the patient is close. Specifically in the song, the band illustrates a loving relationship represented metaphorically by the "house," which seems to get the two characters through the pain and suffering and the "tricks" that her mind is playing on her. The truth varies because she is unable to remember anything. He can't stand to see her with Alzheimer's because it's slowly eating her and her relationship away, like picking meat off the bone.

General Comment:I believe this song to be about a woman who eventually commits suicide. It seems as though she's speaking out and her dead lover can hear but his thoughts can't be voiced because he is no longer there. When the chorus sings about the ship carrying their bodies safe to shore, its talking about how they will see each other in the afterlife. The egyptians believed in travel through the nile river before they got to the afterlife. "Theres an old voice holding me back" is referring to her logical sense which tells her that suicide is not the best option. Then when she sings about feeling wrong when she is right is she cant bear life and her living feeling wrong though it is right because of her deep depression. When the male voice sings that he misses her little talks I think he is trying to console her, with no avail, and to move on with her life. Then when he says that her mind is playing tricks on her, he is telling her not to listen to those suicidal thoughts. Having been around a victim of suicide, when the female sings about the screams all sounding the same is referring to how just talking to anyone or any word she says she just wants to scream and just go (as in death) because the thoughts are there and dont go away. Then she sings to her lover to wait for her and that she will see him when she falls asleep (death).

My Interpretation:To me, this song talks about a woman that gets lost in the woods, and then she gets kidnapped to an old and spooky castle and she talks in her head with her boyfriend\husband and he can't fully identify with her condition and she is very scared and has a lot of things that may happen that go on in her head.

My Interpretation:I've always interpreted this song to be about the death of a couple.

To me, I took it as he was already dead by way of disease ("I watched you disappear/all that's left is a ghost of you") and she's slipping further and further into depression. Eventually it gets to be too much for her, and she commits suicide to be with him again ("Now wait, wait, wait for me, please hang around/I'll see you when I fall asleep" -- 'fall asleep' being death).

My Interpretation:To me this song is about a woman with a mental disorder like psychotic depression and the person who loves her is so scared to see her hurt. This song terrifies me because I have a mental disorder and I'm so scared that I will never be able to let someone love me without hurting them a lot. I mean, people I love have told me that my mind is playing tricks on me and sometimes I really can't trust myself and I'm so scared that I will always hurt the people who love me by hurting myself because i can't see things the way they really are.

My Interpretation:I always thought this song was about a couple that grew up together. She becomes disconnected with life and is unhappy with the direction it's going in. He is trying to comfort her telling her he's there to help, but it's no use. In the end all that's left is a ghost of what she cared about and loved.

Lately, I've been entertaining the idea that he's dead. in the line "The stairs creak as you sleep" could be referring to him being sleeping eternally and her thinking that his spirit is the one making them creak. The male part of this song, sounds as though no one is listening, since there's no real responses or direct communication that's usually conveyed in a song like this. So he could be talking to her, trying to help her and comfort her with his passing, but she can't hear it and is going deeper and deeper into depression about it.

Then when saying "you're gone away I watched you disappear. all that's left is a ghost of you" is referring to him getting sick and slowly dying. Then with "wait for me, please hang around." is saying even though you're not here for me physically, stay with me until it's my time to pass too.

When they say "Don't listen to a word I say, the screams all sound the same." could be referring to her being mad and cursing him for leaving her alone in the world without him.

My Interpretation:The part where it says "this ship will carry our bodies safe to shore" is refering to ancient Greek mythology and the crossing of the River Styx. Basically, the Greeks believed that in the underworld, to get to the afterlife or the world of the dead, your soul had to pay one gold coin to ride on a ferry across the River Styx. This ties into the theme of death and passing in this song
