I felt loved last night for the first time in a long time
It feels like coming home to stay
Like falling in the sea when it's too hot in the sun
Made things so much worse today

I know you said you'll miss me
But I know that you won't
Because time is like a wave, that washes the pain away
When you come down
I know I said I'll see you
When it gets to New Year
But now that all the rain stopped falling
All I think is getting out of here

I felt loved last night for the first time in a long time
It feels like I never went away
Like drifting back to sleep when I'm aching and I'm tired
Made me feel so much worse today

[Chorus]

I know I'd be welcome but tell me how far
Ceremonial knocks sound the gaps in my heart-beat
And I'll never be good enough for you or for me
I've buried my pride, I've buried my key

I felt loved last night for the first time in a long time
It feels like coming home to stay
Like falling in the sea when it's too hot in the sun
Made things so much worse today

I know you said you'll miss me
But I know that you won't
Because time is lie a wave, that washes the pain away
When you come down
I know I said I'll see you
When it gets to New Year
But now that all the rain stopped falling
All I think is getting out of here

I felt loved last night for the first time in a long time
It feels like I never went away
Like drifting back to sleep when I'm aching and I'm tired
Made me feel so much worse today

[Chorus]

I know I'd be welcome but tell me how far
Ceremonial knocks sound the gaps in my heart-beat
And I'll never be good enough for you or for me
I've buried my pride, I've buried my key (Repeats)

[Chorus]

    My Interpretation

I believe it's that huge rush of falling in love with someone rather quickly and then the comedown of falling out of love. Perhaps he's speaking of his own experience. Maybe perhaps he still was in love with the girl but she'd fallen out of love with him and he's speaking of how he knew it would happen. The falling in love so quick and the rush, never lasts..it fizzles out, it's like when it rains ...when it rains hard it pours, but that doesn't last long, not that kind of rain. That fast, strong surge of falling in love, the worst feeling is when you come down from it. It's like a huge, painful love hangover...and this song is explaining what that feeling is like.
