Chest to chest (chest to chest)
Nose to nose (nose to nose)
Palm to palm
We were always just that close (just that close)
Wrist to wrist (wrist to wrist)
Toe to toe (toe to toe)
Lips that felt just like the inside of a rose

So how come when I reach out my finger
It feels like more than distance between us?

In this California king bed
We're ten thousand miles apart
I've been California wishing on these stars
For your heart for me
My California king

Eye to eye (eye to eye)
Cheek to cheek (cheek to cheek)
Side by side
You were sleeping next to me (next to me)
Arm in arm
Dusk to dawn
With the curtains drawn
And a little last night on these sheets

So how come when I reach out my finger
It seems like more than distance between us?

In this California king bed
We're ten thousand miles apart
I've been California wishing on these stars
For your heart for me
My California king

Just when I felt like giving up on us
You turned around and gave me one last touch
That made everything feel better
And even then, my eyes got wetter
So confused, wanna ask you if you love me
But I don't wanna seem so weak
Maybe I've been California dreaming
Hey, hey, hey, hey

In this California king bed
We're ten thousand miles apart
Been California wishing on these stars
For your heart for me
My California king

My California king

In this California king bed
We're ten thousand miles apart
I've been California wishing on these stars
For your heart for me
My California king

    My Interpretation

i believe that this song is a bout distance emotionally ie skinn to skin cheek to cheek etc there a couple none the less, and they still are intimate with each other last night on these sheets to me its the womens thoughts or insurcuritys so to speak, they lay side by side but yet she still dosent feel close like either her thoughts are somewhere else maybe she dosent love him like she use to or she believes his mind is somwhere else and he dosent love her any more and she is confused why these feeling apply in her mind so how come when i reach out my finger there seems like more than distance between us ... so how come

    i absolutely adore this song.

this song hits really hard to home for me with my current situation. i see this song being that there are two people who are "seeing" eachother, but one of them doesn't know what they are... they are kind of just, "floating" so to speak. that is why there is "distance" between them because he's right there laying beside of her, but she still feels some kind of barrier between him and her.

    love it<3

    My Interpretation

The girl feels that her relationship with her lover/BF has become just physical and mentally they drift away from each other. She's confused about their relationship and if he truly loves her, but it accures to her that she may be dreaming.

Great song. So different from a lot of her other songs. It's so smooth & sexy. I think the song is (like a lot of people said) talking about the emotional distance between two lovers although they are basically entwined. 5 stars.

I don't know why most lyrics on various website said I bet california wishing, it sounds more like i've been california wishing.

anyways this song is really good, it applies on multiple layers. Long distance relationship that is falling apart. He is in California and I have been waiting for him to move back but it seems he is happier there and he is staying. I want to move to Cali but I can't for many reasons.. sigh SMH

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Cajun Girl
Little Feat
Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.
