I'm always screamin' my lungs out 'til my head starts spinnin'
Playin' my songs is the way I cope with life
Won't keep my voice down
Know the words I speak are the thoughts I think out loud
I like to keep things honest
I'm a safe bet like your life's staked on it, for real
I'd hate to keep you all wonderin'
I'm constant like the seasons, I will never be forgotten, man

Let's leave no words unspoken
And save regrets for the broken
Will you even look back when you think of me?

All I want is a place to call my own
To mend the hearts of everyone who feels alone
Whoa, you know
To keep your hopes up high and your head down low
Keep your hopes up high and your head down low

Still got something left to prove, it tends to keep things movin'
While everyone around me says my last days are looming overhead
But just what the hell do they think they know?
My head's above the water while they drown in the undertow

Let's leave no words unspoken
And save regrets for the broken
Will you even look back when you think of me?

All I want is a place to call my own
To mend the hearts of everyone who feels alone
Whoa, you know
To keep your hopes up high and your head down low
All I want is a place to call my own
To mend the hearts of everyone who feels alone
Whoa, you know
To keep your hopes up high and your head down low

If you take it from me
Live your life for yourself
'Cause when it's all said and done
You don't need anyone else, come on

So let's get back to when everything seemed perfect
Not a worry in the world, tell me, was it all worth it?
I get what I want, so everyone's always judgin' me
Not afraid of anything, I've got the whole world in front of me

All I want is a place to call my own
To mend the hearts of everyone who feels alone
Whoa, you know
To keep your hopes up high and your head down low
All I want is a place to call my own
To mend the hearts of everyone who feels alone
Whoa, you know
To keep your hopes up high and your head down low

Keep your head down low
Keep your head down low
Keep your hopes up high and your head down low

I don't think anyone really "sells out". I think it's more that people and bands change and wanna try different things. But honestly, I don't think this even applies to ADTR cause this new album doesn't sound like much of a departure from Homesick. It's a little less heavy, but that's really it.

"I'm always screaming my lungs out till my head starts spinning. Playing my songs is the way I cope with life. Won't keep my voice down. Know the words I speak are the thoughts I think out loud." -His music is honest and it's what makes life easier for him. The things he can't say, he sings. So since he feels so passionately about it he does it with all his heart until he physically can't anymore. And he wants to get that across first and foremost, which is why he starts the song with this verse.

"I like to keep things honest. I'm a safe bet like your life's staked on it. For real. I'd hate to keep you all wondering. I'm constant like the seasons, and I will never be forgotten man." -More about being honest and letting people in, but now it's more about being brutally honest. He's himself and will always be himself whether other people like it or not. But if you keep faith in him and trust in what he's saying he'll be around forever, never letting anything change him, thus keeping him "constant".

"Let's leave no words unspoken and save regrets for the broken. Will you even look back when you think of me?" -My favorite part :). The band is gonna say everything they wanna say and be everything they wanna be. They won't regret anything because that would be accepting defeat and turning their backs on everything they once believed. After all, you really can't regret anything because at one time that's what you wanted. I think the last line he means that since the band is constantly moving forward, will an outsider or fan even have time to look back on all of the shit that's happened in the past. They're constantly moving forward and doing bigger, better things. Also I believe the quote is usually 'Will you even think of me when you look back?', which implies that he's stuck in the past, but since he's not, he's switched it around to be constantly in the present and future.

"All I want is a place to call my own, and mend the hearts of everyone who feels alone Whoa You know to keep your hopes up high and your head down low. Keep your hopes up high and your head down low." -He wants a place to belong, not just for himself but for everyone like him who's ever had to suffer, been made to be something they're not, or had their heart broken. You don't have to be alone because there's a place for you if you look long and hard enough. Just be humble in keeping your head low but on the inside keep hope that you'll find that place and be happy.

"Still got something left to prove. It tends to keep things moving. While everyone around me says my last days are looming overhead But just what the hell do they think they know? I keep my head above the water while they drown in the undertow" -He doesn't stop working because he's still gotta prove himself to the non-believers and haters. These are the people saying they have no chance at becoming any more successful than they've already been, but the band ignores them and in the end, they're the ones still alive and succeeding while the ones who doubted them are failing and falling into obscurity.

"If you take it from me, Live your life for yourself. Cause when it's all said and done you don't need anyone else. Come on!" -Don't let anyone get you down or tell you what to do or who to be, basically.

"So let's get back to when everything seemed perfect. Not a worry in the world, tell me was this all worth it? I get what I want, so everyone's always judging me. I'm not afraid of anything, and I've got the whole world in front of me." -Looking back on a time when everything was going just right and wondering if that time will affect them now ('Homesick' era/earlier success). Unlike the other successful bands from that time, ADTR is still going strong, so the less successful bands are talking shit about them WHILE outsiders are still judging them for being the kind of band they are. But the band knows they've got a lot to do and a lot of oppertunities on the horizon so they have nothing to worry about but themselves.

this song is amazing i think its about not caring what people think and he just wants everyone to stop being so full of themselves and stop judging and lets get back to the way things were.

I think this song is pretty self explanatory. His music is how he copes. Putting words on paper is his therapy.

"Still got something left to prove. It tends to keep things moving. While everyone around me says my last days are looming overhead But just what the hell do they think they know? I keep my head above the water while they drown in the undertow"

I think that verse is about all the other bands on the warped tour scene who are all dying because their 15 seconds of fame is over, and they all say that ADTR had their 15 seconds of fame with the Homesick album, but they keep going. They keep being more and more successful. They still have something to prove.

    Song Meaning

I think this is about why he writes/makes music, ("All I want is a place to call my own,and mend the hearts of everyone who feels alone") and how people don't believe in him or are being pessimistic about his future.. or even critical of his work ("While everyone around me says my last days are looming overhead But just what the hell do they think they know?" & "everyone's always judging me. I'm not afraid of anything, and I've got the whole world in front of me").

Thaaaat's my take on it :)

It's ironic how their music got lighter, yet their lyrics became really straight forward... and better. This song, for me is like a continuation for The Downfall Of Us All.

People get really stupid with comments like "they are sell outs", "they are trying to be more pop"... EVERY artist wants to be listened to by as many people as possible, it would be stupid if they played the same style for their entire careers, musicians get bored and they like to experiment. They have come to realize that it doesn't matter what purists think of them.

"You know to keep your hopes up high and your head down low" they can't be more straight forward than that, that's a lesson for life.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Cajun Girl
Little Feat
Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/
