Red dress, red nails your thoughts light-dark conspire
I brim with health and a longing that won’t expire
Until it’s done but we both can barely walk
And then we’ll run and spit in the face of dawn

Vampire lessons starting now
I need a companion to stalk the night
Vampire lessons starting now
I know I shouldn’t but it’s on

Swiftly unveiled at last I am myself
No retinue cataloging my moral decline
To know you knew and felt this same hot rage
I nearly screamed then taking you in my arms

Vampire lessons starting now
I’ll have you whole or not at all
Vampire lessons starting now
Get on the floor and be yourself

I’ll call you in the night and we’ll go all the way
It can’t go on like this but there’s no other way
Someday we’ll be free
Until then there’s this

I’m not a toy or a hobby you can pick up
But I enjoy being in this body for now

Vampire lessons all the time
Pretty soon it’s gonna be for real
Vampire lessons all the time
It works until you start to feel

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.
