Now I think I understand
How this world can overcome a man
Like a friend we saw it through
In the end I gave my life for you

Gave you all I had to give
Found a place for me to rest my head
While I may be hard to find
Heard there's peace just on the other side

Not that I could
Nor that I would
Let it burn
Under my skin
Let it burn

Left this life to set me free
Took a piece of you inside of me
All this hurt can finally fade
Promise me you'll never feel afraid

Not the I could
Nor that I would
Let it burn
Under my skin
Let it burn

I hope it's worth it, here on the highway, yeah
I know you'll find your own way when I'm not with you

So tell everybody, the ones who walk beside me, yeah
I hope you'll find your own way when I'm not with you tonight

I hope it's worth it, what's left behind me, yeah
I know you'll find your own way when I'm not with you

So tell everybody, the ones who walk beside me, yeah
I know you'll find your own way when I'm not with you tonight

General Comment:Jimmy had an enlarged heart and was not expected to live until 30. By the end of his life he was living on a cocktail of prescription drugs, his brompton cocktail. He knew his time was coming so he wrote this as his final goodbye. He then died Dec 28, 2009 from the deadly mixture of narcotics and alcohol. Whether it was a suicide or not, he knew he was dying.

My Opinion:The fact that the Reverend sung the " I hope it's worth it, here on the higway, yeah" part like he was drunk and wasted won't tell you something? Just think about it. I really think that the Fiction song was a goodbye-suicide note, such as Brompton Cocktail.. This is my oponion regardless of how sad it sounds. Even I don't want to believe it's true, but unfortunately it makes sense.

My Opinion:after hours trying to get into rev´s mind and after reading all this posts I do think its an suicidal song and a auto-biography at the same time he says things that could be related to teh end of his life and others that could be related to the way he lived!

General Comment:I think it's Jimmy's suicide note, it makes perfect sense. It's really sad, but a beautiful song none the less. RIP the Rev, was someone you could look up to.

General Comment:I can understand why some may think this is a suicidal song, however I think it seems more like a submissive song. Meaning that Jimmy fought hard against his heart problems and such, but in the end it wasn't enough, and this song is him sort of admitting defeat, but in a way where he is happy with what he achieved and telling his friends that even though he's gone, he'll still live on through the memories and music.

    To add, I believe that the lines;
"Not that I could, nor that I would" reference any thoughts towards suicide, citing that he wouldn't do it, and even if he wanted to, he couldn't.

Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan killed himself by drinking the Brompton Cocktail. The song Fiction is his suicide note that he played and sung 3 days before he drank the Cocktail. The Rev wrote a song called the Brompton Cocktail in the self Title Album. Because he was planing to drink this drink because of his enlarged heart.

General Comment:Don't think this has anything to do with suicide. To me it seems pretty simple. It's about facing your own mortality. He knew he was dying and this is just about him accepting the fact that his time was running out.
It's him saying he lived his life to to the fullest and did everything he could. Also telling everyone to go on without him, he would be in a better place soon.

General Comment:ok, so, i've done my fair share of obsessing over this band, (still obsessing actually XD) but, in an interview with matt, he said that Jimmy came up to him, handed him the tape with this song on it, and said, "this is it man, this is my last song. i put all that i've got left into it. i'm done." and three days later, Jimmy died. now, i'm not saying that he committed suicide, but maybe, sometimes, people can just...tell when it's time, ya know? but i believe that this song was kind of like Jimmy's way of comforting the boys, telling them that he wants them to keep going, that things will be okay, "i know you'll find your own way when i'm not with you, tonight." so yea, i think that this was just his comforting, "p.s." to his death.

Song Meaning:"Fiction" is one of Jimmy's nicknames, he had it tattooed down the side of his torso. He once said in an interview, "My life is kind of like a story that if I told you you wouldn't believe. It would seem like fiction. That's me." (I'll try to find the interview to cite it later.)

Just thought I'd throw that in there. I won't make assumptions that it was a suicide.

General Comment:Can somebody please explain where exactly Jimmy's vocals are used? I know that part in the final verse is him [I hope it's worth it, here on the highway..], that's obvious. I read somewhere that the chorus [Not that I could, or ever would..], is also his voice, but my sister strongly disagrees with me (I still believe that's him, I just want to settle the argument!) And then on top of them I'm wondering if the lower voice throughout the whole song is his own or just Matt harmonizing with himself. If anyone knows the answers that would be awesome, it's killing me. Thanks!
