She's all laid up in bed with a broken heart
While I'm drinkin' Jack all alone in my local bar
And we don't know how
How we got into this mad situation
Only doing things out of frustration
Tryna make it work, but man, these times are hard
She needs me now, but I can't seem to find the time
I got a new job now on the unemployment line
And we don't know how
How we got into this mess, is it God's test?
Someone help us 'cause we're doin' our best
Tryna make it work, but man, these times are hard

But we're gonna start by
Drinkin' old cheap bottles of wine
Shit talkin' up all night
Sayin' things we haven't for a while, a while, yeah
We're smilin' but we're close to tears
Even after all these years
We just now got the feelin' that we're meetin'
For the first time

Ooh
Ooh
Ooh

She's in line at the dole with her head held high
While I just lost my job but didn't lose my pride
And we both know how
How we're gonna make it work when it hurts
When you pick yourself up, you get kicked to the dirt
Tryna make it work, but man, these times are hard

But we're gonna start by
Drinkin' old cheap bottles of wine
Shit talkin' up all night
Doin' things we haven't for a while, a while, yeah
We're smilin' but we're close to tears
Even after all these years
We just now got the feelin' that we're meetin'
For the first time

Ooh
Ooh
Ooh
Yeah

Drinkin' old cheap bottles of wine
Shit talkin' up all night
Sayin' things we haven't for a while
We're smilin' but we're close to tears
Even after all these years
We just now got the feelin' that we're meetin'
For the first time

Ooh (yeah, for the first time)
Ooh (oh, for the first time)
Ooh (yeah, for the first time)
We just now got the feelin' that we're meetin'
For the first time

Oh, these times are hard
Yeah, they're makin' us crazy
Don't give up on me, baby
Oh, these times are hard
Yeah, they're makin' us crazy
Don't give up on me, baby

Oh, these times are hard
Yeah, they're makin' us crazy
Don't give up on me, baby
Oh, these times are hard
Yeah, they're makin' us crazy
Don't give up on me, baby

Danny O'Donoghue of The Script told the story behind the song in an interview with Merrick, Dools & Ricki-Lee on Sydney radio station Nova 96.9. Said O'Donoghue: "The song 'For the First Time' was about a time when we got back after touring around the world. We wanted to press palms with the people who had really gotten us there, and we got home and realised there's a stark reality out there, the recession has hit, people are losing their jobs and their valuable things, and we thought, this almost pales in comparison to our news. We started the song, and it ended up being a bit bleak and we felt we really needed a great message in these, to turn it around... so we needed a message of hope, as being are being stripped of all these things they're realising what's really important. It's all about going back to basics, drinking cheap wine, eating your dinner off the floor. That's when you meet each other for the first time, when you have nothing."

Michael1986, you hit the nail on the head.

The song is about the a couple who are struggling on a day by day basis. They both seem to be suffering in their own way ("She's all laid up in bed with a broken heart; While I'm drinking jack all alone in my local bar") about being unemployed and having no job / money to fall back on.

I love this song because I recently lost my job. I struggle day in, day out trying to make amends. I'm slowly eating through my savings and credit card and in debt. I also feel my partner silently suffering through the pain but I refuse to show it ("Smiling but we're close to tears"). I silently cry alone though...

"How we got into this mess is it God's test?" I don't know but we are learning more about being in poverty and the importance of the small simpler things in life. When we get out of this mess, I believe we'll turn out to be much better people. We both have seen hell and wouldn't wish it upon anyone.

We're now literally drinking cheap bottles of wine and only starting to "connect" to each other again. It makes me realise the more important thing is to have each other around to support one another. Times are definitely hard but through the struggles we have had over the past 4-5 months, we are a lot of a closer couple... "We just now, got the feeling, that we're meeting for the first time"

I'm glad there are artists out there that can really connect to these situations that can happen to anyone. 10/10 song!

It's a song about two people who've been in love, but they've got lost along the way and forgotten what they mean to each other. "Tryna make it work but man these times are hard" shows just how lost they've become.. but the feeling that they're "meeting for the first time" shows that they can fall in love all over again, they just have to remember why they did in the first place and not give up. Beautiful band, beautiful lyrics, beautiful song :)

i absolutely love love love this and it makes you remember that there is light at the end of the tunnel, and things can be good even if everything seems bad. i think many people can relate to this because of the ard times in the world at the moment and the fact that people go through hard times all the time, everyday. i love the music in this and the fact that its a really simple song. i cant wait for the rest of the album.

For me, this song is about falling in love with the same person all over again and experiencing that awesome feeling like 'you just met for the first time' again. It's definitely one of those lovely songs that I could listen to all day long - no doubt on that : )

I heard on a radio it´s about a friend of the band has some problems with his job (commercial crisis) so he had to find a new one where he has to work a lot

("She needs me now but I can't seem to find the time I got a new job now in the unemployment line")

They can't handle the situation because it´s the first time after her strong relationship they meet something like this.... furthermore they´re so frustrated that they´re mean to the other one so it´s a hard time.

("And we don't know how How we got into this mad situation Only doing things out of frustration Tryna make it work but man these times are hard")

But they still love each other and they know they can overstand it, at least him, so it goes:

"Oh these times are hard Yeah they're making us crazy Don't give up on me baby"

    Such a beautiful song <3

I feel like this song is about a young couple getting hit with the recession. That they've known each other for a while, and are now out in the real world, and the guy lost his job, causing them to fight and him to drink. "She's all laid up in bed with a broken heart, while i'm drinking jack all alone in the local bar"

Well, they just sit down one night with cheap wine, talking all night about their problems, and saying things they haven't for a while (how much they mean to each other)

"We just now, got the feeling, that we're meeting for the first time" means that they now see each other at their worst, and its like they are meeting for the first time without the fluff of first teenage love. (Seeing them as a real person)

    That's just what i think :)

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/
