Take the time just to listen
When the voices screaming are much too loud
Take a look in the distance
Try and see it all

Chances are that ya might find
That we share a common discomfort now
I feel I'm walking a fine line
Tell me only if it's real

Still I'm on my way
On and on it goes
Vacant hope to take

Hey I can't live in here for another day
Darkness has kept the light concealed
Grim as ever
Hold on to faith as I dig another grave
Meanwhile the mice endure the wheel
Real as ever
And it seems I've been buried alive

I walked the fields through the fire
Taking steps until I found solid ground
Followed dreams reaching higher
Couldn't survive the fall
Much has changed since the last time
And I feel a little less certain now
You know I jumped at the first sign
Tell me only if it's real

Memories seem to fade
On and on it goes
Wash my view away

Hey I can't live in here for another day
Darkness has kept the light concealed
Grim as ever
Hold on to faith as I dig another grave
Meanwhile the mice endure the wheel
Real as ever

And I'm chained like a slave
Trapped in the dark
Slammed all the locks
Death calls my name
And it seems I've been buried alive

Take you down now
Burn it all out
Throw you all around
Get you're fuckin' hands off me
What's it feel like?
Took the wrong route
Watch it fall apart
Now you're knockin' at the wrong gate

For you to pay the toll
A price for you alone
The only deal you'll find
I'll gladly take your soul

While it seems sick
Sober up quick
Psycho lunatic
Crushing you with hands of fate
Shame to find out when it's too late
But you're all the same
Trapped inside inferno awaits

Evil thoughts can hide
I'll help release the mind
I'll peel away the skin
Release the dark within

This is now your life
Strike you from the light
This is now your life
Die buried alive

This is now your life
Strike you from the light
This is now your life
Die buried alive

This is now your life
Die buried alive

My Interpretation:The way i see it, the first half is from someone who's stuck in hell's point of view.

""I walked the fields through the fire"

"Hey I can't live in here for another day
Darkness has kept the light concealed"

"And I'm chained like a slave
    Trapped in the dark
    Slammed all the locks
    Death calls my name
And it seems I've been buried alive"

Those all make where he is sound like hell. He's trying to get out, trying to redeem himself and taking every chance he gets to do so.

    "Still I'm on my way
    On and on it goes
    Vacant hope to take"

"You know I jumped at the first sign
Tell me only if it's real"

He's trying to find a chance to get out of his situation.

The second half of the song is the gatekeeper of heaven, God, or someone similar. It could even be the devil. They're smacking down the person's hopes of getting into heaven and telling them that they deserve the punishment they got.

    "What's it feel like?
    Took the wrong route
    Watch it fall apart
Now you're knockin' at the wrong gate"

He's knocking at the gate to heaven but they're not gonna let him in. The route he took was an evil life.

"For you to pay the toll
    A price for you alone
    The only deal you'll find"

He needs to pay the toll, or repent, in order to get in. That's the only way.

    "I'll gladly take your soul"

He'll let him in but not before he does what he needs to.

    "While it seems sick
    Sober up quick"

It may seem unfair but he needs to deal with it.

"Shame to find out when it's too late
    But you're all the same
    Trapped inside inferno awaits"

It's a shame he didn't realize what was going to happen sooner but it's too late and he's trapped in hell.

    "Evil thoughts can hide
    I'll help release the mind
    I'll peel away the skin
    Release the dark within"

He can't hide any evil thoughts and can't trick anybody into letting him in.

    "This is now your life
    Strike you from the light
    This is now your life
    Die buried alive "

This is the life he's stuck with. No light in it, only darkness.

    That's my interpretation. Anybody agree/disagree?

General Comment:i think the song is about both the rev and some random guy who done something wrong, coz in interviews, a7x stated that "lyrically, the songs turned around and most - not 100% - but mostly the lyrics are now sort of talking about the life and death of James 'the rev' Sullivan"

General Comment:Based off the music video and some of the lyrics.. It kind of reminds me of the Allegory Of the Cave.

"take a look in the distance try to see it all"
"tell me only if its real"

In the allegory of the cave, the men are tied up and forced to look at the shadows on the wall, and believe that the shadows are reality.

In the music video at this part, there are 5 skelletons that are chained up looking at a flame and a wall (the flame was used to make the shadows)

One of the prisoners was then untied, and allowed to see the surface:

"I walked the fields through the fire"... the prisoner is walking through the hellish cave to the surface

but then he was forced to return to this cave, with the knowledge that his reality wasn't actually real.

"Much has changed since the last time, and I feel a little less certain now, you know I jumped at the first sign, tell me only if its real"

The prisoner has returned, and it seems so fake and horrible now. He's forced to look at the shadows on the wall in the cave once more, but he knows that it is no longer real.

"And i'm chained like a slave trapped in the dark slammed all the locks death calls my name and it seems i've been buried alive"

the prisoner had enough. he knows this isn't reality. Right before the tempo and feel of the song changes, the guardians who held up the shapes that reflected shadows on the wall force him to come back to his prison cell.

The rest of the song seems more oriented about struggling with death, and the allegory of the cave is left alone.

Being an allegory, this is all symbolic and can be interpreted how ever one wants. What Plato said this resembled was that people saw shadows as reality, but once they saw the real world, through teachers, they were able to see the truth.

This song seems more like a struggle in ones self..dealing with personal justice.. (ironically the main topic of apology, where the allegory of the cave is written)

    well thats all i got.
oh..and Its not about The Rev. Like someone said above me who im too lazy to quote, it was his favorite song. although it could be dedicated to him, its not about him.

General Comment:I think it's about a guy who is suicidal, kills himself, then goes to hell, hence 'Buried Alive', since most think of it as a place in the ground.

General Comment:this song is about the late Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan. when they say, "hold onto faith as i dig another grave, meanwhile the mice endure the wheel" they're referring to Jimmy's death as the grave (for obvious reasons) and the mice enduring the wheel is the rest of the guys in the band just trying to survive and go through the motions without Jimmy by their side. theyre saying how, without Jimmy, it just feels like they've been buried alive, like even though they're alive, theyre not really living. i honestly think that this song was them getting out some of their anger over Jimmy's death. i'm not saying they were mad at him, but going through the loss of a friend can be frustrating for some people, everybody grieves differently. but yea, i think this song was about Jimmy's death and abotu how he was so young when he died, he was basically buried alive.

General Comment:Ok, this song it's a lot complex and creepy for me.

To me it's a guy trapped in a world that he hates, where he feels like he's dead already, and he blame someone or others for that.

And the music take a complex format, as like he's talking to the victim.

    Strong Lyric as always

Ps: Sorry about the english, i'm brazilian so dont write very well

My Opinion:Does anyone else think this song sounds vocally like Pantera near the end, and the guitar sounds a bit like newer Metallica? At first I thought perhaps Phil Anselmo was on this track.
