I'm saved, I'm saved
And oh--would you believe it?
On the third day
I felt his presence near me
I know they won't believe me, but
I've got favorite memories, well
I'm saved, I'm saved
And oh--could you believe it?
You won't regret
If you choose to believe it
Freedom. Silence. Always, yeah
All these darkened hallways
Darkness always
It doesn't make much sense
Darkened hallways
Away from me, callin' "stay"
And oh--would you believe it?
On the third day
I felt his presence near me
I know they won't believe me, but
I've got favorite memories, well
I'm saved, I'm saved
And oh--could you believe it?
You won't regret
If you choose to believe it
Freedom. Silence. Always, yeah
All these darkened hallways
Darkness always
It doesn't make much sense
Darkened hallways
Away from me, callin' "stay"

All these darkened hallways
I'm in love
Somewhat confused. Freedom seems like a good thing, and something someone would preach they have if they are saved. But relying on religion can be a crutch, much the opposite of freedom. Silence could refer to, as it commonly has been referred to in the past, as a lack of God's guiding 'voice'.
Maybe I'm reading too much into it.
I am saved! I'm saved and, oh, would you
believe it? On the third day I felt his
presence near me. I know they won't
believe me, but I've got favorite memories.
I am saved! I'm saved, and, oh, could you
believe it? You won't regret if you choose
to believe it. Freedom, silence / always.
All these darkened hallways.
Darkness always - it doesn't make much
since! Darkened hallways, away from me
calling: stay!
"i'm saved, i'm saved,
and oh,
would you believe it?
on the third day,
i've felt his presence heal me.
i know,
they won't,
believe me,
but,
i've got,
favorite memories.
well,
i'm saved, unscathed,
and oh,
could you believe it?
you won't regret,
if you choose to believe it.
freedom, silence,
always, yeah,
all these, darkened hallways.
darkness, always,
it doesn't make much sense.
darkness, always,
away from me, calling, 'stay.'
To me the lyrics represent "finding god," or breaking through a period of intense sadness/depression and emerging on the other side with confidence. That's a highly personalized interpretation, however. Either way, this is such a beautiful song. Thank you, Bradford. If anybody else is hearing the lyrics differently, please continue to share. :)
i definitely hear "heal" instead of "near."
it still doesn't sound like "unscathed" to me exactly, but that doesn't mean anything... i just can't hear it.
i think the last line is correct, too...
but, it's "darkened hallways" prior to it, and not "darkness, always."
I'm saved, I'm saved
And, oh, would you believe it?
On the third day
I felt his presence near me
I know they won't believe me, but
I've got favorite memories, well
I'm saved, I'm saved
And, oh, could you believe it?
You won't regret, if you choose to believe it
Freedom, silence, always, yeah
All these darkened hallways
Darkness, always
It doesn't make much sense
Darkened hallways
Away from the current state
Funny the way I changed my perspective of this song from the first time I heard until today. I love it.
