is just a metaphor for the evil voices telling you to do wrong.
The rest is simple. you have choices in life and it's up to you to make the right ones
However, the line I find most curious is thus:

Another possibility is that the subject is undergoing some sort of treatment for mental health, and has either been told by their caretakers that what they have done is wrong(and due to the medicated state, believes them). Or perhaps these are the same voices that they have succumbed to in previous verses due to the medication.
There's many ways to take this song, all of which are rather interesting. It almost feels to me like a "Welcome Home(Sanitarium)" message, but with perhaps a much darker protagonist/subject.

I am pretty damn sure this song is directed at people who use God as a weapon, claiming to be doing right in "God's name" but in reality they are being evil...

(This part shows the revs entrapment in alcohol and/or drugs. Because of his addiction he will be stuck in the devils playground forever. The last part means your always on the edge so close to death so you'll never have peace of mind.)

(The drugs/and or alcohol are the voices like having an angel one shoulder and the devil on the other. One voice telling him to do the right things and another telling him to do wrong. You decide your own path. They took for granted that you are a good person at heart and now you are going to be tortured because you chose the wrong path.

This is my interpretation of this song. I'm not telling people to follow it or that its accurate. Its my opinion of what the songs about.
Does anyone know about it?
1. All songs on the album were written before the death of The Rev.
2. Therefore, this song can't be about the Rev dying (there is even a demo version where The Rev is playing drums and doing backing vocals)
3. None of the other songs on the album are about the Rev's death (So Far Away is commonly mistaken as being about the Rev. The video is about the The Rev, and the song is about Synyster Gates' grandfather)
4. Avenged Sevenfold does not suck, they are AWESOME!
