    My Interpretation

What I think about this song is about is a person who grew cold with hatred. This person was born in the wrong side of his city, the side where you either grow tough and emotionless or die. At first, this person was born as a caring and curious person. However, he grew up surrounded by gangs and criminals and without caring parents. This person had to learn how to look out for himself the hard way. He was basically raised by the streets, and the streets are not good guardians. This person is oblivious at first, so he is still innocent and he wants to do things such as be free and care about others. Unfortunately, he is also involved with a lot of hardened criminals who instantly reject his thoughts (Darf ich leben ohne Grenzen - nein das darfst du nicht/Lieben trotz der Konsequenzen - nein das darfst du nicht/Darf ich sein so wie ich bin - nein das darfst du nicht/Darf ich suchen nach dem Sinn - nein das darfst du nicht). He hates these people, but if he doesn't stick with them, he'll be left all alone in the harsh world he lives in. This is the beginning of his "Ice Age"; the time period where he's forced to become cold and tough (Die Kälte zieht in alle Knochen und die Glieder werden schwer/Sie haben mir mein Herz gebrochen, es schlägt -doch es lebt nicht mehr/Eiszeit - und wir sind verloren im Meer/Eiszeit - und das atmen fällt so schwer/Eiszeit - mit dir werd' ich untergehen/Eiszeit - und nie wieder auferstehen). He realizes that he's changing and he doesn't like it. He doesn't want to be like the violent criminals who have been tormenting him ever since he was born. So, he tries to do good in order to redeem himself. This doesn't work at all because he gets caught by his gang and beaten up for breaking their rules (Darf ich meine Träume leben - nein das darfst du nicht/Meinem Feind die Hände geben - nein das darfst du nicht/Darf ich mein schwarzes Herz verschenken - nein das darfst du nicht/Darf ich für mich selber denken - nein das darfst du nicht). He ends up in jail because of the fight and this person ends up worse than he was before. Finally, he lets his heart and world "freeze over" and ultimately becomes emotionless and hateful (Schlaf ein mein Herz und komm' zur Ruh'/Schlaf ein mein Herz die Welt friert zu/Schlaf ein, schlaf' ein mein Herz). This person absolutely despises what he has become, but he has no other option. He gives up on trying to be the man that he always tried to be (Schlaf ein mein Herz und komm zur Ruh/Schlaf ein mein Herz die Welt friert zu/Schlaf ein).

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

“Head > Heels” is a track that aims to capture what it feels like to experience romance that exceeds expectations. Ed Sheeran dedicates his album outro to a lover who has blessed him with a unique experience that he seeks to describe through the song’s nuanced lyrics.

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
