I remember years ago
Someone told me I should take
Caution when it comes to love
I did, I did
And you were strong and I was not
My illusion, my mistake
I was careless, I forgot
I did
And now when all is done
There is nothing to say
You have gone and so effortlessly
You have won
You can go ahead tell them

Tell them all I know now
Shout it from the roof tops
Write it on the skyline
All we had is gone now
Tell them I was happy
And my heart is broken
All my scars are open
Tell them what I hoped would be
Impossible, impossible
Impossible, impossible
Falling out of love is hard
Falling for betrayal is worst
Broken trust and broken hearts
I know, I know
Thinking all you need is there
Building faith on love and words
Empty promises will wear
I know (I know)
And now when all is gone
There is nothing to say
And if you're done with embarrassing me
On your own you can go ahead tell them

Tell them all I know now
Shout it from the roof tops
Write it on the skyline
All we had is gone now
Tell them I was happy
And my heart is broken
All my scars are open
Tell them what I hoped would be
Impossible, impossible
Impossible, impossible
Impossible, impossible

Ooh impossible (yeah yeah)

I remember years ago
Someone told me I should take
Caution when it comes to love
I did

Tell them all I know now
Shout it from the roof top
Write it on the skyline
All we had is gone now
Tell them I was happy (I was happy)
And my heart is broken
All my scars are open
Tell them what I hoped would be
Impossible, impossible
Impossible, impossible
Impossible, impossible

I remember years ago
Someone told me I should take
Caution when it comes to love
I did

General Comment:I think this song represents a girl who was warned, and always took caution with love until she met this specific guy. He was strong, but she was not strong enough to show that same caution (You were strong and I was not, My illusion My mistake, I was careless I forgot). She let her guard down and despite being told it was impossible and he took advantage of that situation and now she is left hurting.

General Comment:I think this song is about a guy who cheated on his girlfriend, but she never saw it coming, and now she's heartbroken/humiliated. She's asking him to tell her side of the story, and be honest about the fact that he cheated instead of blaming her (i.e. "tell them I was happy"). I wish this song had come out a few years ago, because it mirrors the situation I was in with my boyfriend at the time. He cheated on me, and I was completely blindsided by it. I thought we were happy, but apparently he didn't feel the same. *Sigh*. At the very least I am grateful to Shontelle for putting the heartbreak into words.

General Comment:Definitely a relatable song for most people. We've all grown up watching movies, listening to songs, being told by others to "be careful because love can break your heart."

My interpretation of this song is mainly that she, like everyone else, was told to be careful and protect her heart, don't give it away too easily. But once she met this guy she fell head over heels, gave in, and lowered her walls, only to prove everyone whoever cautioned her, right.

It seems she's telling the guy who broke her heart, "yeah you got me, go ahead and tell everyone how you taught me a lesson, how now I really know what it's like to feel a broken heart." Great lyrics :)

Song Meaning:This song means that a girl was told to becareful when you fall in love. She began to fall deeply in love with a guy so she decided to leave him because they were getting close and she did not want her heart broken. She breaks up with him to prevent him from breaking her heart. She wants him back now but she knows that he will not take her back and she ruined something that was good.

My Interpretation:I feel like this song is about a woman who has been taught throughout her life to be cautious with who she loves. This advice may have come from her mother', friends', sisters', etc. experiences and personal struggles.

So she didn't see herself opening up any time soon, let alone falling completely in love with this man. But she did. He managed to do what she thought would be impossible. Her walls were up, but he got through them regardless.

There's a bitter twist to this would-be happy story, however, when she is betrayed by this man. From her words, "Tell them I was happy... tell them...", it is clear from her reckless abandonment of pride that she feels foolish for failing to follow the advice that had always seemed important to her. But more importantly, she's discovered that it's not the fact that she disregarded her moral standpoint on love that is hurting her so much, but that it is the actual breakup that is affecting her so much.

And now it has become clear that what is "impossible" is this relationship working out. Our perspective has changed from the beginning, when we assumed that she thought having a trusting relationship at all would be impossible (since she is much too careful to let that happen).

The repetition of the verse, "I remember years ago / someone told me I should take / caution when it comes to love / I did" at the end of the song also suggests that she ended things with the guy because it is still written in past tense. If she hadn't done anything to get out of that destructive situation (whatever kind of betrayal you want to interpret it as), she couldn't say she "did" take caution because she would have failed to take caution. She managed to find a continued use for that advice by doing the cautious thing: removing herself from a situation that could continue to hurt her even worse.

General Comment:basically, my ex, was described by EVERYONE as a genuinly nice guy, our relationship was full of its up and downs but he knew i loved him, and i quite obviously stupidly thought infact fully believed he felt the same, and i literally thought that me and him ever breaking up was just IMPOSSIBLE.
this song came into the chart at THEE time he left, so im telling you (well in my opinion) this is definitly a woman who gave all of her trust and love to a guy who quite abruptly and very easily jsut up and left ... o wait, was it me that wrote this song? so yes, thats my opinion :/ :)

My Interpretation:"I remember years ago someone told me I should take caution when it comes to love...I did." This means that she entered into the relationship cautiously, not giving herself completely over to the guy and trying to follow the advice she was given.

"You were strong and I was not...my illusion, my mistake. I was careless, I forgot...I did." She entered into a relationship not sure of her own strength but being under the illusion that the guy was stronger. She got "careless" and forgot the advice, falling for the guy even though it was against her better judgment.

"You have gone and so effortlessly you have won..." The dude moved on without a second thought. He didn't even seem to miss her or care about the fact that she was out of his life. He "won" because she is still in love with him while he could care less if they are together or not.

"Tell them all I know now, shout it from the rooftop.
Write it on the skyline, all we had is gone now.
Tell them I was happy, and my heart is broken.
All my scars are open, tell them what I hoped would be impossible."

The chorus is a plea to the guy to be honest with everyone for once in their relationship...to man up and say that he was in the wrong, that yes, he was the one that hurt her and wrongly so. When she says "Tell them what I hoped would be impossible" the impossible thing she is talking about is the dissolution of their relationship, something she hoped it would never come to.

"Falling out of love is hard, falling for betrayal is worse, broken trust and broken hearts, I know." She's saying that it's difficult to fall out of love but it's even worse when you fall for someone who's made themselves out to be something they're clearly not...in this case she allowed herself to get swept up in the moment with this guy and he ended up taking full advantage of willingness to let go of her inhibitions and just follow her feelings. Obviously the "broken trust and broken hearts" lyric is meant to show that she has had bad experiences with men before this new guy came along.

"Thinking all you need is there, building faith on love and words...empty promises will wear, I know." She thought that they had everything they needed to work and for the relationship to survive. She blindly believed him when he told her he loved her and used it as a foundation for the relationship. However, eventually the hollowness of his words took their toll as she began to realize that there was no truth behind what he was telling her; he made promises he didn't keep and in retrospect she's looking back and realizing just how dishonest he was.

"And now when all is gone there is nothing to say, and if you're done with embarrassing me, on your own you can go ahead tell them." At the end of a relationship what is there to say? Usually not much of anything, as no words will be able to fix the damage that's been done. When she says "If you're done with embarrassing me, on your own you can go ahead tell them" she's challenging the man once again to be a man and take responsibility for his actions instead of hiding behind some self-justified facade. He's humiliated her both while they were together and during the breakup and now she wants him to face the music on his own, to see what other people will think of his actions when they find out what he did.

All in all, it's a breakup song about a man who made a woman believe that she was his everything but was so emotionally shallow that it meant nothing to him to break it off when he was done. It was a different story for her though, as she was cautious at the beginning but ultimately ended up falling deeply in love with the guy. The song is a plea to the man to let everyone know just exactly what he did and to take some self-responsibility.

My Interpretation:After watching the video, what I think the song is about is: “Someone told me years ago, I should take caution when it comes to love, I did” She was so in love with this guy and like in relationships, they fought, but she always forgave him even if she didn’t agree with the things he did.

“You were strong, and I was not, My illusion, my mistake, I was careless, I forgot” He was the strong one, cause he knew what he was doing and knew how to get what he wanted. She was so blinded by love that she went along with everything, she was afraid to confront him when things got bad. She forgot the advice about taking caution.

“Falling out of love is hard” She tried it and it didn’t work. But “Falling for betrayal is worst” so when she still stayed, she succumbed to his lies and it was much worse than trying to get out on her own.
“Broken trust and broken hearts, I know, I know” For staying so long, she experience everything.
“Thinking all you need is there, Building faith on love and words” These are what made her stay, what made her tolerate being betrayed. “Empty promises will wear” but enough lies can wear on anyone’s patience, so she started getting fed up with the guy’s empty words.

“And now when all is gone, There is nothing to say” Now that she’s truly seen him for what he is, she knows that they can’t go on like that. Nothing could be said to mend their problem, or else she’d just be falling for all the lies all over again.

“And if you're done with embarrassing me, On your own you can go ahead tell them” Now that she’s thought of leaving he could stop making a fool of her. He could do that all in his own time, she’s decided to move on with her life.

“Tell them all I know now…” Tell them what she learned from coming into the relationship. That she so fell in “love” for someone who couldn’t care less. He doesn’t care, it was his game, he was the strong one. “Tell them I was happy” She was, and the price she had to pay was a broken heart. But everything’s over and done with. Her scars are still there because she truly “loved ” this man.

“Tell them what I hoped would be, Impossible” She forgot the caution because she thought he was the one. So she hoped that having to take caution or ever having to come out of the love with so many wounds would be “Impossible”

"I remember years ago, Someone told me I should take, Caution when it comes to love,I did " She finally remembered what that person told her and left.

    General Comment: remember years ago
Someone told me I should take
Caution when it comes to love
    I did, I did
And you were strong and I was not
    My illusion, my mistake
    I was careless, I forgot
    I did
**She was told as a little girl to take caution with her heart, she thought she was by intrusting her heart to this man, his power was strong and made her fall in love, making her weak and she realized what she thought to be was an illusion, trusting him was a mistake, she forgot all about what she was told because she was in love.*

And now when all is done
    There is nothing to say
You have gone and so effortlessly
    You have won
You can go ahead tell them

Tell them all I know now
Shout it from the roof top
Write it on the sky love
All we had is gone now
    Tell them I was happy
    And my heart is broken
    All my scars are open
Tell them what I hoped would be
    Impossible, impossible
    Impossible, impossible

**and now that it's all done, she can't change anything, he got what he wanted out of her and left her without any effort at all, he won he made her fall in love and hurt her, so since he can't hurt her any worse than he already has, he can go brag to all his boys about how he played her, all her scars are open so he can't open anymore, he can go on and tell everyone what she hoped would be impossible when it came to him.*

General Comment:As a man, having gone through what she is singing about, I think I can make sense of this song.

The woman made a mistake. She was in a wonderful relationship and she ruined it by being unfaithful to her man. He was strong enough to dedicate himself to just her, but she wasn't to stay faithful to him. She was careless and forgot to take caution. She admits it.

However, once its done, its done. There are no excuses. However, she did not expect him to just up and leave so easily. Though she was wrong, he made her feel guilty. So, she surrends to his harassment and admits he has won. And now that he has moved on, he can tell the next women in his life why he left her. He can tell the world her mistakes. Her scars (her mistakes) are open to be seen by all. She thought their relationship would never end...she thought it impossible. It was so perfect. But she forgot to take caution.

In the next part, she repeats everything he had said to her after she cheated. Falling out of love his hard, but falling for her betrayal is worst. The broken trust led to a broken heart....she admits it, she knows. Her words didnt match her promises. Those empty promises will wear on the relationship and it eventully did. So, now that its over and he has bashed her for her mistakes....he can move on and tell the others, but now no longer with her openly admitting it. She is done with the embarasment of acknowledging her mistakes. Let him do that on hs own.
