its hard to make out what it could be about specifically, but the line "Take my badge, but my heart remains" is powerful.

--that's what it sounds like he's singing to me anyways..

I absolutely am obsessed with this song right now. I love the sound, the lyric, the video. I really dig this band so much. This song is so sexy...I can't get enough. I love the change in tempo in the last minute of the song.
But I think it's about a guy that used to be pretty wild and promiscuous himself, a real player that didn't even believe true love existed and didn't care...but now he finds himself so crazy in love with a girl and she is just like his former self...wild and refuses to commit to him alone. Kinda relationship karma. He knows she's probably gonna break his heart in the end but he can't break free of the spell she's got him under nor does he want to break free.

In an interview in May 2010 the lead singer stated that the song was about his relationship with his band mate and drummer Patrick Carney, he said Pat had a really difficult year and a divorce and that the song is about them going through these life experiences together and how it only made their relationship stronger in the end. :) Nice song, I love the Black Keys, the video is super cute too :)

I think a man has found a girl that makes him insane with his love for her. She is still running wild, and he is chasing her. He never used to be like this until he met her, but she is not ready to slow down herself yet. He knows exactly how he feels however, she is still running around doing her thing.

it's actually been said that this song is somewhat about, with using references, between patrick carney and dan auerbachs relationship as friends, supporters, and bandmates. carney was going through a divorce at the time and it tested their relationship together and it made them stronger, hence the name "tighten up".
