I could roll you to hell
I could swim from your heavens
I could drive you so safe
I could walk you to here
Let us float in the tears
Let us cry from the laughter's
When it's not for some sake
And the city's not near

Well now, you're going back
You're going back, you're going back

But I hope you could hear
All the screams from the forest
All the ghosts in the trees
And the love of a dog
Let us float in the tears
Let us cry from the laughter's
When it's not for some sake
And the city's not near

Well now, you're going back
You're going back, you're going back

You said, "Driver, please, don't go that fucking way"
You said, "Just let it go away"
You said, "Just let it go"

I could roll you to hell
I could swim from your heavens
I could drive you so safe
I could walk you to here
But you dry me to tears
Like I cry from your laughter's
When it's not for some sake
And the city's still dear

And now, you're going back
You're going back, you're going back

Oh, now you're going back

Song Meaning:I think the first part is a friend explaining to his other friend how deep their ties of friendship go - he could "roll him to hell" and ruin him or "swim from your heavens" - be elated with him, and take care of each other "drive you so safe"/"walk you to here". Extremes that show how significant the relationship is.

Floating in tears and crying in laughters is similarly showing how close they are that they can laugh about anything for no special reason - "not for some sake" - even in humble surroundings without distractions "and the city's not near".

I think "going back" is literally leaving from the two of them being there together and sharing such close bonds of friendship - literally, physically departing, because it breaks what is so special between them.

The next verse is hoping that despite leaving, the friend remembers the experiences they've had together - "screams from the forest" being laughter, "ghosts in the trees" memories and the "love of a dog" the simple, true loyalty to each other they have had. "Let us float in the tears, let us cry from the laughters, when it's not for some sake and the city's not near" is hoping that despite not being there together, they still remember.

"You said, "Driver, please, don't go that fucking way" You said, "Just let it go away" You said, "Just let it go"" - it seems to me that they've fallen out which has caused the friend to leave, or that the singer is returning him back ("you're going back") but the friend doesn't want to go.

"But you dry me to tears like I cry from your laughters When it's not for some sake And the city's still dear" is the singer missing his friend and remembering what he asked his friend to remember.

    I love this song.

General Comment:The country vs city thing makes sense. The important thing I found about this song after seeing a few live versions of it is that it's about a male lover. Before he played this song at the Great Wide Open Festival, he said it was about his friend who he didn't take care of, he made it clear that it was about a male friend. : youtube.com/…. He then always pairs this song with By Your Side, a song he wrote lyrically, not musically. At another live event, he said he wants that friend to know this, then proceeded to sing it's lyrics, part of them being "I'll be there holding you tight to me " and refers to his friend as baby : youtube.com/…. Just a theory.

Memory:Uh, where was this song last August
It would have been nice to have had some comfort with this song back then.

General Comment:I agree with Fennecfox a little bit but have a slightly different approach. I think it's about a falling out of two friends.

"I could roll you to hell
I could swim from your heavens
I could drive you so safe
I could walk you to here"
    - I take these lines to illustrate how the singer cares so much for the person he's singing to. He'd go from one extreme to the other if the person wanted. He reassures the person that he'd be safe with the singer - he'd walk along and guide him. He'd be supportive and caring.

"Let us float in the tears
Let us cry from the laughters
When it's not for some sake
    And the city's not near"
    - Here is where the singer suggests that their relationship change... he suggests that they become more than surface friends, that they become people who share emotions not for the hell of it ("some sake") but to help each other, they become people who can spend the day out away from the city, away from the hustle and bustle, and be with each other and be happy.

    "Well now, you're going back
You're going back, you're going back"
    - But the singer realizes the other person doesn't want to do that. I take "going back" as not necessarily going back to being "surface friends", but going back as like retreating away, completely.

"But I hope you could hear
All the screams from the forest
All the ghosts in the trees
And the love of a dog"
    - The singer wishes that he could have someone to talk to about his emotions. It's as if he has secrets ("ghosts") he wishes he could talk about, even scream out. I take the "love of a dog" line as the singer illustrating he wished that his friend could love him like a dog, loyal and dedicated and always there.

"You said, "Driver, please, don't go that fucking way"
You said, "Just let it go away"
You said, "Just let it go""
    - His friend now saying, I don't want any part of this.

I also like to think about the idea of friendships looked on as "driver" and "person being driven"... whether it's always the same person in the friendship or if the roles switch throughout it... or whether it's a concept that applies to friendship at all.

Very good song, really applies to me a lot right now.

General Comment:"drive you so safe" could mean the driver is afraid of the city. And the woods are safe. " walk you to here" could also means I can't walk you very far cause he's scared..

I don't fucking know it's awesome though and kristian matsson obviously writes alot of riddles

General Comment:Also I think it's a depressing place but the singer likes and his friend detests it and unconvinced by the singers pursuasion and allure of the woods

General Comment:This about a his friend I'm sure as well. Total platonic song. What it's about is about the two men deciding to live in a rural or remote area in the woods with a dog. The friend is sick of it and wants to go back to the city. The singer is the "driver" and will easily do as he says. "I can roll you to hell" I believe he means I can easily take you there. "hell" being the city the place the singer hates. It's also his friends "heaven". And the singer will have to "swim" from it. It's an image for struggle. It's more apparent he contrast with "I cry from your laughter" most simply "what makes you happy, makes me sad" " your heaven my, is my hell type shit. I'm not exactly sure where they are at the moment though. When he says "I could walk you to here" so probably in between the city and the home in the woods. Then his friend trips out as he is driving, screams! Driver don't go that fucking way. Yadayada ya and there's somethig there that the singer can't let go of. And he "your" going back, not "we" it's apparent the singer stays
