Oh meet me when the morning fails on the fields of desire
Oh meet me when I lost my part in the choir of dusk
Where the promise to lead what is right
As we both know how fields will turn white
And know I will never speak of days
Cause I know you wont count them.

No we have never grown a day from the poison we shared
And we're walking our crooked backs home
But will we ever confess what we've done?
Guess we're still kids on the run.

And no we will never be a part of the pictures once taken
When we're feeding fire with the flames til no memories gone
And the cold sky will write us a song
But will we ever confess what we've done?
Guess we're still kids on the run

And the reflections in their eyes
Sure could paint us as killers
Oh, I'll be there.

And til the terror of our time
Could forgive us as lovers
Oh, lets break some hearts

And no I will never speak of ways 'cause I know you wont try them
But all the weapons raining from the sky will be ours to embrace
And the cold sky will write us a song
But will we ever confess what we've done
Guess we're still kids on the run.

My Opinion:I saw an interview with Kristian a few weeks ago and he was talking to about this song he said something along the lines of "I don't really like telling people what my songs are about personally, i like them to make it something special for their self, but it's something that I had to write, I've had to for a while now"

ever since i've heard that and been listening to the song all i can think of is abortion.

"Oh the reflections in their eyes
Sure could paint us as killers"

some people of course think abortion is evil, that you're killing a human. this could be what this line is about.

also "oh meet me when the morning fails on the fields of desire"
the had sex because it was their desire, yet it failed to be a bright morning because she got pregnant.

"no i will never speak of ways, cause i know you won't try them"

perhaps this is about him trying to persuade her to keep the baby and telling her the other ways they could deal with it ex. adoption or raising it together.

General Comment:I'd agree it is about an affair. Many of the lines are very telling:

    Opening lines:

Oh meet me when the morning fails (fades) on the fields of desire (failed or faded desire - some point in your marriage when the desire for your partner has/is failing)
Oh meet me when I lose me part in the choir of dusk (morning or start of the day, or in this case start or some point after of married life, thus he's lost his part in the marriage)

The next two lines refer to how first idealistically you go into marriage wanting to be commited and true to that 'one person' (promise to lead a life that is right), is replace when the relationship goes cold - the last words of the line is "fields turn white" meaning snow and thus cold = the marriage has gone cold.

Typically in an extramarital affair you are counting the days until you see the person again. In this case, he's trying not to pressure the person he is having the affair, or this person is not as 'committed', as one commenter suggested, to the affair.

I think the next few sets of lyrics are self-explanatory. I read the following a little differently, the first two lines seperate from the third line:

"Oh the reflections in their eyes
Sure could paint us as killers"

I know this one - looking into the eyes of your wife/husband and feeling so much guilt as to be considered a murderer for the lies you are hiding behind.

Followed close by a reply to the lover of:
    "Oh I'll be there"
Yep, even though I feel like a killer one moment, there is no way I'm not coming back to you.

And the next three lines are almost the same:

"Oh the terror of our time
    Could forgive us as lovers"
That's the typical I can make excuses for how awful things are in my life to be able to excuse what I'm doing now with you, followed by:
    "Oh let's break some hearts"
Yah, whatever it is that I'm doing that's so bad really doesn't matter much because I'm going to do it anyway.

Lastly, "kids on the run" is the title. Typically kids on the run are kids running way from home. What do kids run away from home for? Because they think things are bad at home and that there is something better out there for them. The song is about an affair, trying to find something better out there for yourself and that there is guilt, deceit and broken promises along the way but you've changed since those idealistic days of early marriage (and or the morning/summer i.e. start of your life) and you've learned things about life (it's colder, crooked pathed, less idealistic). Will they confess what they've done? Hmm, maybe. Many do not.

General Comment:I agree with Micheal1985, I really think this is about two people having an affair. Except the person speaking wants to take the step further, commit to each other when the other one doesn't feel the same.
"oh let's break some hearts" - the singer wanting it to happen
"and no I will never speak of ways cause I know you wont try them" - the other one refusing to commit

Then the last lines of a couple of stanza's:
"But will we ever confess what we've done
Guess we're still kids on the run"
--its almost childish what they are doing, ruining their marriages or whatever it may be

Song Meaning:This song is about a young couple sneaking out in the late hours of the night and losing their virginity, or at least engaging in sexual relations with each other. At this point in the relationship, it is too new for him to be comfortable discussing. Its just something they do and they enjoy each others company.

This being such a special event, it is a memory, or poison, that theyll never grow away from, and will always remember one another for. While theyre on their way home they wonder if theyll tell anyone what has happened, or if its something they should keep to themselves, just being kids, keeping secrets.

They show no evidence, and instead make their own memories, lots of them, feed the fires with them. But anyone whos been in love can agree that hiding it is no easy task.

Other people can see that there is something going on, and they are somewhat looked down on for their romance. But they dont care. They literally dont care if they break everyones elses hearts because theyre not "supposed to be" doing what theyre doing. Theyre too in love to cave about anything else.

And at that point they know that they have each other, and are free to be whoever they want to be with each other.

Truly a beautiful love song. Makes me remember the feeling.

My Interpretation:No, I'm pretty sure the guy with the theory about nuclear holocaust is on the right track. It's a metaphorical nuclear holocaust. It's about the self-destructing nature of humankind. Or maybe of certain kinds of people. They feed the fire till even the memory of them is gone. Their time is running out, as they know. And time passes and the fields turn wild. Everything destroyed by kids who really didn't know what they were doing.

Maybe it's environmental. Maybe it's about love, or society. Maybe it's spiritual. But yeah, it's the kind of total, mutually assured destruction of the topic of your choice.

General Comment:I could be wrong here, but I've always thought he is singing "as we both know how fields will turn WILD". Something to do with the passage of time causing things to revert to some natural, mellow state. Seems to make more sense to me than "white". I'm not really sure when a field would turn white, except I guess when it snows.

General Comment:Ttakethefire: I will eat my own hat if this song is intended to be about nuclear holocaust.
And FreeJigsawEarth: I agree with you that that probably is not written for that purpose. However, your interpretation is still really beautiful... It also fits surprisingly well. That gave me a way of looking at it in a new light, thank you.

How I have looked at this song is the battle between hedonism and love and how they can be packaged differently. The two characters are lovers who have engaged physically and feel guilty about it, but don't necessarily regret it.

Lyric Correction:Also "And know" should probably be "And NO" each time he sings it
