The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.
They stole a few elections,
Still we the people won
We voted out corruption and
Big corporations
We voted for an end to war
New direction
We ain't gonna stop now
Until our job is done
Come on all good workers
This year is our time
Now there some folks in Washington
Who cares what's on our minds
Come one-come all voters
Lets all vote next time
Show 'em which side are you on now
Which side are you on
Which side are you on now
Which side are you on
Which side are you on now
Which side are you on
Which side are you on now
Which side are you on
Which side are you on now
Which side are you on
30 years of diggin'
Got us in this hole
The curse of reaganomics
Has finally taken it's toll
Lord knows the free market
Is anything but free
It costs dearly to the planet
And the likes of you and me
I don't need those money lenders
Suckin' on my tit
A little socialism
Don't scare me one bit!
We could do a whole lot worse
Than europe or canada
C'mon mr. president
C'mon congress make the law
Which side are you on now
Which side are you on
Which side are you on now
Which side are you on
They say in orleans parish
There are no neutrals there
There's just too much misery
There's too much despair
America who are we
Now our innocence is gone
Which side are you on now
Which side are you on
Too many stories written
Out in black and white
C'mon people of privilege
It's time to join the fight
Are we living in the shadow of slavery
Or are we moving on
Tell me which side are you on now
Which side are you on
Which side are you on boys
Which side are you on
Which side are you on boys
Which side are you on
Which side are you on boys
Which side are you on
Which side are you on now
Which side are you on
My mother was a feminist
She taught me to see
That the road to ruin is paved
With patriarchy
So, let the way of the women
Guide democracy
From plunder and pollution
Let mother earth be free
Feminism ain't about women
No, that's not who it is for
It's about a shifting consciousness
That'll bring an end to war
So listen up you fathers
Listen up you sons
Which side are you on now
Which side are you on
Which side are you on now
Which side are you on
Which side are you on now
Which side are you on
So are we just consumers
Or are we citizens
Are we gonna make more garbage
Or are we gonna make amends
Are you part of the solution
Or are you part of the con?
Which side are you on now
Which side are you on?
Still we the people won
We voted out corruption and
Big corporations
We voted for an end to war

Son Şansın - Şarkı Sözleri
Hayalperest
Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere.
In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.
Holiday
Bee Gees
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday".
I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.
Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
This sounds like such a brilliant re-invention of a classic protest song as only Ani could do!
This is the most sadly ignorant view of American politics imaginable. Not to mention American History.

England enslaved more Africans than we did and used them throughout the world. There were more Irish enslaved than blacks in the U.S.

Why can't I be allowed to keep the efforts of MY LABOR!

Socialism is slavery. It is the government making you work, and taking the fruit of your labor away from you so it can spent your money on itself!

Obama is spending money on WAR in Afganistan, not on the homeless! Wake up Ani! Socialism is for people that want to live off of mommy and daddy. Trust me if you had to work your butt off while a dozen people kicked back and went to school to "better themselve" at your expense and whined about how rotten a person you are because you are one of the privileged people with a job, or you worked and payed for a bunch of other people to sit around and smoke dope, do drugs and claim they can't work because somehow the "working people did it to them"... I think you'd get sick of socialism in a hurry. Working = priveleged? NO!

I deserve not to be a slave. I deserve to work and keep what I make and not have it taken away by armed tax-collectors.

Wasting talent Ani.
