High life
Waiting by the mailbox, by the train
Passin' by the hills 'til I hear the name
I'm looking for a saw to cut these chains in half and all I want is
Someone to rely on as
Thunder comes a rolling down
Someone to rely on as
Lightning comes a staring in again
I'll wait to be forgiven
Maybe I never will
My star has left me
To take the bitter pill
That shattered feeling
Well the cause of it's a lesson learned
Just don't know if I could roll into the sea again
Just don't know if I could do it all again she said, it's true
Waiting in my room and I lock the door
I watch the colored animals across the floor
And I'm looking from a distance
And I'm listening to the whispers
And oh it ain't the same, when your falling out of feeling and your
Falling in and caught again (caught again)
I'm caught again in the mystery
You're by my side, but are you still with me?
The answer's somewhere deep in it, I'm sorry but your feeling it
But I just have to tell you that I love you so much these days
Have to tell you that I love you so much these days, it's true
My heart is in economy
Due to this autonomy
Rolling in and caught again
Caught again
Caught again
Caught again
My heart is in economy
Due to this autonomy
Rolling in and caught again
Caught again
Passin' by the hills 'til I hear the name
I'm looking for a saw to cut these chains in half and all I want is
Someone to rely on as
Thunder comes a rolling down
Someone to rely on as
Lightning comes a staring in again
I'll wait to be forgiven
Maybe I never will
My star has left me
To take the bitter pill

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines:
"Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet"
So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other:
"I had all and then most of you"
Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart
"Some and now none of you"
Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship.
This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere.
In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.
Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988.
"'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it."
"There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."
I believe this song is about debating whether to take MDMA with a woman he loves. "My star has left me to take the bitter pill" "Just don't know if I can ROLL into the sea again". He does it anyways! And is thinking about this woman. "You are by my side, but are you still with me?" They are feeling elation and empathy but in real life does she love him? And of course this is how he feels and the drug makes him express this. "Have to tell you that I love you so much these days, it's true" MDMA can complicate relationships and can create feelings of fake love during its influence. Makes relationships tricky and confusing. A MYSTERY!
Well shit. This song doesn't cheer me up so much anymore now.
"My star has left me to take the better pill" means his GF or wife left him for another man she thought was better dig deeper than "drugs"
First off. it is "Bitter pill" and if you have ever had X before it is a BITTER pill. The man and woman seem to have broken up but they decided to roll with each other once more. The drug isn't the same for the woman anymore "when you are falling out of feeling" while the man is rolling in and caught again. And if you know anything about the Gorillaz, Damon Albarn LOVED to get his X fix. I think it is why the sounds he creates are so unique.
I agree with you, especially the part when he says "Just don't know if I can roll into the sea again, just don't know if I can do it all again, she said, 'it's true.'" And she talks about how he's caught into it again. And yeah I never got the "roll" until you said it, but I knew it was said over and over again in the song. I think that she can't feel it anymore because she's really in love with him, and he only returns the feeling when they roll.
I think its about a guy saying his ex left him bc she is an E addict and doesnt give two shits about love
Rolling is mentioned through the album because it's a MARINE themed album. It must relate to the theme, and Damon Albarn is a god with metaphors, but I don't think he is talking about E. It's something a little deeper.
@har1ey0 ....I also think it's about a guy who treated his girlfriend like shit a lot and had no fucking idea how much she loved him, so he took it for granted and crushed her heart and self esteem to give into his asian fetish. It also could be about that. "AND WHEN I SAY YOU SUCKED MY BRAIN OUT, THE ENGLISH TRANSLATION IS I AM IN LOVE WITH YOU AND IT IS NO FUN. BUT I DON'T USE WORDS LIKE LOVE, BECAUSE WORDS LIKE THAT DON'T MATTER, DON'T LOOK SO OFFENDED, YA KNOW YOU SHOULD BE FLATTERED" - ani.
