To the dark dark seas
Comes the only whale
Watching ships go by
It's the day we try

It doesn't know

It's a Casio on a plastic beach
It's a Casio on a plastic beach
It's a Styrofoam deep sea landfill
It's a Styrofoam deep sea landfill
It's automated computer speech
It's automated computer speech
It's a Casio on a plastic beach
It's a Casio

If they hold you, whale
On a really hot day
When the call got made
You've gone away

It doesn't know

Its a Casio on a plastic beach
Its a Casio on a plastic beach
It's a Styrofoam deep sea landfill
It's a Styrofoam deep sea landfill
It's automated computer speech
It's automated computer speech
It's a Casio on a plastic beach
It's a Casio

General Comment:I think this song is an S.O.S from 2-D.

    "It's a Casio on a plastic beach (x2)
    It's a Styrofoam deepsea landfill (x2)
It an automated computer speech (x2)
    It's a Casio on a plastic beach
    It's a Casio"

a Casio is 2-D, seeing as though he plays keyboard.
He is locked in a room that is underwater, next to a styrofoam deepsea landfill
an automated computer speech, freaks him out

General Comment:I believe, the song is about the people in the "Gorillaz" world, finally finding Plastic Beach, the source of everything great, and finding out it was all a lie.

    "It's a Casio on a Plastic Beach"
It's electric, digital, like the watches Casio use to make.

    "It's a Styrofoam deep-sea landfill"
Basically it's just a dump, and the people were lied to, it was suppose to be their last refuge.

    "Its automated computer speech"
The electric life (The voice from some kind of nature, or the woman singer in empire of ants, who i will call Stylo), sent them there, where the human race will end.

In To Binge, You hear 2D's voice, the voice of human nature, knowing he made a mistake.

My Interpretation:I love this song because Plastic Beach, titled after the album, is an idea. 2D is telling you that this album is an old Casio keyboard, taken from its place in the dusty closet, to a vacation spot in the middle of the ocean far away from reality. It can be whatever you want it to be, but for me it is like a escape from reality to the metaphorical 'plastic beach'. Just look at some of the music videos. Its a new chapter in the book of Gorillaz.

Picture bright-colored pantomes, making up an image in your head of a sea adventure to save a depressed manatee, millions of cute cartoon jellyfish schooling underneath you as your favorite childhood submarine that you used to play with in the bathtub is now blown up to scale. Close your eyes and let the tunes paint a picture in your head.

General Comment:Basically, it is a summary of 2-D's time on the plastic beach. It is known that ships past by, a whale messes with 2-D. Plastic Beach has been described as an island made of trash, styrofoam(keyword), old technology, and dead people. He is describing the beach and his status on the beach.

General Comment:I always heard this as "I'M a Casio..." instead of "IT'S a Casio..." so naturally, I saw this as "I'm something that creates art surrounded by the things I build the art with." This can still apply with "It's" I suppose, but it'd be more likely to be talking about a THING - a marvel among the mundane.

And yeah, I instantly saw this Casio as an oldskool little sampling keyboard. Something simple/humble, but with potential to create good art.

General Comment:Casio makes hundreds of thousands of electronic products, chances are any number of electrical devices you own have some casio parts inside. This song is specifically about a Casio brand synthesizer that was used to help make this album.

General Comment:Anyone know why 2D is afraid of whales?
I think it has something to do with the actual meaning of this.

Also, artists don't always say exactly what they mean
if you look at Andy Warhol for example everything he said about his art was sarcastic and mocking of his true ideals
perhaps you're judging Gorillaz too quick saying there's no environmental concern
when you think about it, Gorillaz are a set of characters meant to show a point
they aren't precisely the point and shouldn't have a literal meaning

So maybe Albarn did say that, what did he mean though?

General Comment:Ballinbenji, Casio also makes musical instruments (primarily electric pianos, I think). Pretty sure that's what they're referring to.
