I'm floating, and somethings reaching out
Vibrations, can you hear them now
Please help us, were running out of time
My brothers, we are deathly out of line
I feel you, on a far off distant land
We fucked up, lets give ourselves a hand
Its over. From the heavens on down
Our footsteps, gods coming around

Gotta make like a cat theifs caught in the line
Its gotta sound like a gunshot over and over
Ive gotta voice so lost off back in my head
It takes the heart rate up then down even more
Ive got my friends face down like a kid in the dark
Theyve got the same fear built up more even more
Ive let my eyes bright up like a predator shark
To let my mind close down every hour by hour

Finally I get this feeling were all alone in one big world
Just to realize that all these shapes and colors are so it doesnt hurt so badly
So life doesnt hurt, doesnt hurt so badly, so life doesnt hurt, doesnt hurt so badly
Please dont look at life, look at me so sadly. Life shouldnt hurt, doesnt hurt so badly

Do you feel light shine in the darkest of nights, or does the Pain stack up from the skin to the core
Do you find every time that you cover your eyes to keep the tears held up, dripping down even more
Let the words come down, every line in sight and put the young flames up and make you cower and cower
If the sun breaks in instead of sparkin the sight, I promise you Ill be here to let the light in

Im floating, and somethings reaching out
Vibrations, can you hear them now
Please help us, from the heavens on down
Our footsteps, gods coming around

So life doesnt hurt, doesnt hurt so badly, so life doesnt Hurt, doesnt hurt so badly
Please dont look at life, look at me so sadly. Life shouldnt hurt, doesnt hurt so badly

Lyric Correction:if you read the album's lyric book it's actually "i've got an ache like a cat thief's got an alarm." a lot of lyrics sites are getting this wrong.

General Comment:I dont know about you guys, but I like to think this whole album as a storyline. I knew it was a storyline even before they annnouncened they would make a movie with the same name.

In this particular one the lyrics sound like they are talking about a guy (?Lee?) that is shut out from the world.

Im floating, and somethings reaching out
"Vibrations, can you hear them now
Please help us, from the heavens on down
    Our footsteps, gods coming around"

He comes to realise that his life wasnt actually that bad and that he took advantage of living.

"Finally I get this feeling were all alone in one big world
Just to realize that all these shapes and colors are so it doesnt hurt so badly"

but thats my two cents and I could be wrong..but I love to think of the song in this way.

General Comment:this song deals with the law of attraction. "vibrations can you hear them now?" several of tom's songs deal with that. Tom's got it right, I wish more people understood or even knew what he is trying to accomplish.

My Interpretation:This song may very well have been inspired by Blink and Travis's plane crash and all that jazz, but I don't think that's what it's all ABOUT, you know? The first stanza is definitely about Blink and AVA and all those relationships, etc. But not the rest of the song. Either way, I know what it is about to me, so that's what I will talk about.

NOTE: I talk alot to begin with, but I have ALOT of feelings about this song, so this is going to be lengthy.

It's pretty abstract, lyrically, which is an art that I think Tom has mastered. A bunch of sentences put together that don't make 'logical' sense, but they somehow come together and you just feel what he's saying, 'catch the vision', you know? Maybe I'm crazy, but that has been my experience with AVA. So, for this song, this is what I feel:

    1) Deep introspection/soul-searching. He's looking inside himself and saying he's got this deep fire in him, this huge and beautiful ambition and need to really be alive; "I've got an ache like a cat-theif's got an alarm; It's got a sound like a gunshot, over and over; Got a voice so lost off back in my head, it takes the heart rate up..." & "I let my eyes bright up, like a predator shark, to let my mind close down every hour by hour".

But then right along with that he addresses his doubts and fears; "...it takes the heart rate up, THEN down even lower" "I've got my friends face down, like a kid in the dark, they've got the same fear built up, more even more" "Do you feel light shine in the darkest of nights, or does the pain stack up, from the skin to the core?" "They put the young flames out, they make you cower and cower".

For me, with my own life and experiences, these two apparently polar-opposite feelings, go hand-in-hand. He knows he has this fire and light and ambition in him, but there are things in the world and in his life and just in his heart that make him wonder if that fire can survive, or if the darkness and doubt are stronger. Also, alot of the lines are directed at the listener. "Do YOU feel light shine in the darkest of nights? Or does the pain stack up from the skin to the core?" "Do YOU find every time that you cover your eyes, to keep the tears held up, dripping down even lower?" "They put the young flames out, they make you cower and cower". To me, that is a 'reaching out', wondering if he is alone in how he feels. Do others have this fire and desire to come alive? Does anyone else see what I see? Or am I just crazy and silly and alone?

But then, there's the chorus. "Realize, that all these shapes and colors are, so it doesn't hurt so badly". I think at that moment he looks outside, instead of dwelling inside, and he sees that Life really is just beautiful. Even just physically. Like the trees, flowers, mountains, the stars, the sky, etc. And VERY personally, to me, that connects to the rest of the song in the way that the overwhelming beauty of the Earth is proof that there is a God, and that means that there is SOMEONE who understands what's inside of you. Anyway, THEN in looking outside of himself, he puts aside worrying that others don't feel what he feels and just tries to lift others and help them see the beauty he sees: "Please don't look at life, look at me, so sadly. Life shouldn't hurt, doesn't hurt, so badly."

So. There it is. Everything I feel about this song. I warned you it would be long :) haha.

I probably won't be coming back here to see peoples' responses, because ya'll probably just think I'm absolutely crazy, but I hope this was beneficial to someone in some way :) This song and my feelings about it have definitely been beneficial to me in a few significant ways.

General Comment:I agree completely with the ideas about being alone and reflecting on yourself. I think another big part of it is that when you look at the world, just by yourself, you realize that life, everything isn't as bad as it seems I.E. "Finally I get this feeling were all alone in one big world
Just to realize that all these shapes and colors are so it doesnt hurt so badly".

Lyric Correction:the lyrics go: "I hear footsteps, God's coming around." rather then: "Our footsteps. God's coming around."

General Comment:I think that this whole song revolves around the plane crash Travis Barker survived. First off, it is titled the Flight of Apollo. Here's an excerpt from wikipedia in regards to the Greek god: Medicine and healing were associated with Apollo. Not only did Travis survive the crash, but he was also able to heal from his injuries.
Anyway the way I see it is this: the beginning,

I'm floating, and somethings reaching out
Vibrations, can you hear them now
Please help us, were running out of time
My brothers, we are deathly out of line
I feel you, on a far off distant land
We fucked up, lets give ourselves a hand
Its over. From the heavens on down
    Our footsteps, gods coming around

is from Travis' point of view. It's when the plane crashed and he is escaping the wreckage. "Please help us, we're running out of time...God's coming around..." these are both clues.

Now, I think the verses are coming from Tom's point of view when he heard news of the crash.

"Gotta make like a cat theifs caught in the line
Its gotta sound like a gunshot over and over
Ive gotta voice so lost off back in my head
It takes the heart rate up then down even more
Ive got my friends face down like a kid in the dark
Theyve got the same fear built up more even more
Ive let my eyes bright up like a predator shark
To let my mind close down every hour by hour

Here, Tom is imagining what the crash was like - what it sounded like, what it must have felt like. He says that he has his friends face down like a kid in the dark - referring to Travis and others whom he knew on the flight.

The rest I think you can figure out. This makes a lot of sense if you really re-read it and look into it.
The big picture though is in the chorus. Other people have posted about it and I think they've got it right when they say that no matter how bad life can be, you have to get up and carry on.

My Interpretation:looking at the lyrics it sounds as if he's giving the same message as 'valkyrie missile' and 'call to arms' (all tracks are the first ones on the albums)

no matter how bad life is sometimes, you have to pick yourself up, dust yourself off and live your life to the max. let nothing get in your way and stop you living your dreams

General Comment:I think that it's kind of about looking back and seeing that you've made mistakes and that you haven't done anything about it and just tried to get others to fix them but they can't change the things that you've done. But then you finally can like work up the strength to try to make a difference and fix things and you find out that you can't change what you've already done, but even just trying to reach out to these people that you've hurt or whatever can make both of you feel better even though nothings really changed.
