É pau, é pedra,
é o fim do caminho
É um resto de toco,
é um pouco sozinho

A stick, a stone,
It’s the end of the road,
It’s feeling alone
It’s the weight of your load

It’s a sliver of glass
It’s light, it’s the sun
It’s night, it’s death
It’s a knife, it’s a gun

A flower that blooms
A fox in the brush
A knot in the wood
The song of a thrush

The mystery of life
The steps down the hall
The sound of the wind
And the waterfall

It’s the moon floating free
The curve of the slope
It’s an ant, it’s a bee
It’s a reason for hope

And the riverbank sings
Of the waters of March
It’s the promise of Spring
It’s the joy in your heart

É o pé, é o chão,
é a marcha estradeira
Passarinho na mão,
pedra de atiradeira

É uma ave no céu,
é uma ave no chão
É um regato, é uma fonte,
é um pedaço de pão

É o fundo do poço,
é o fim do caminho
No rosto o desgosto,
é um pouco sozinho

A spear, a spike,
A stake, a nail
It’s a drip, it’s a drop
It’s the end of the tale

The dew on a leaf
In the morning light
The shot of a gun
In the dead of night

A mile, a must
A thrust, a bump
It’s the will to survive
It’s a jolt, it’s a jump

The prim of a house
A body in bed
A car stuck in the mud
It’s the mud, it’s the mud

A fish, a flash
A wish, a wing
It’s a hawk, it’s a dove
It’s the promise of Spring

And the riverbank sings
Of the waters of March
It’s the end of despair
It’s the joy in your heart

É uma cobra, é um pau,
é João, é José
É um espinho na mão,
é um corte no pé

São as águas de março
fechando o verão
É a promessa de vida
no teu coração

A stick, a stone
It’s the end of the road
The stump of a tree
It’s a frog, it’s a toad

A sigh, a breath
A walkaround
A life or death
A ray in the sun

And the riverbank sings
Of the waters of March
It’s the promise of life
It’s the joy in your heart

For me this song is about the Military dictatorship in Brazil, like many songs from this period. Brazil had a strong censorship, so any criticism of the government should be hidden. This one is "easy". the coup was between 31/mar-01/apr 1964. March is also the end of raining season in brazilian southeast, so they used it to mask the critic

This song is bout life itself , but its left up to the listener to make out that life.. right ? Tom Jobim was a very smart man and the most important song writer along with Vinicius de Moraes in Brazil. All brazilian music comes from their spark to me.

This is a fun pop song, but the words don't really do much for me. I think they're just a little too random, and the weightier images and thoughts thrown in seem like weak attempts to make the song seem more meaningful than it ends up being. And maybe the "É/It is" repetition is a little too cute and makes each line seem like it's declaring its importance a little too much for my taste. Anyway, I've noticed that most songs in general don't try to be very coherent, and when they are, they're usually so straightforward that they're bland and boring. And at least this song isn't boring.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.
