Strange maze
What is this place?
I hear voices over my shoulder
Nothing's making sense at all

I wonder why do we race
When every day we're running in circles
Such a funny way to fall

Try to open up my eyes
I'm hoping for a chance to make it all right

When I wake up
The dream isn't done
I wanna see your face and know I made it home
If nothing is true
What more can I do?
I am still painting flowers for you

Show my cards
Give you my heart
Wish we could start all over
Nothing's making sense at all

Try to open up my eyes
I'm hoping for a chance to make it all right

When I wake up
The dream isn't done
I wanna see your face and know I made it home
If nothing is true
What more can I do?
I am still painting flowers for you
I am still painting flowers for you

I heard everything you said
I don't wanna lose my head

When I wake up
The dream isn't done
I wanna see your face and know I made it home
If nothing is true
What more can I do?
I am still painting flowers for you
I am still painting flowers for you
I am still painting flowers for you

General Comment:He wants her to love him again.. perhaps there was a previous breakup? And now they're back together and he's trying to impress her.. but maybe she's selfish and thinks she's too good for him, when really she isn't. She's just so blind by her conceited nature to see that he loves her more than she thinks, and inside, it annoys him and hurts him, yet he can't help but love her because he can't just let her go, no matter how hard he tries. Or maybe the relationship is like a dream? Or maybe the lines ''If nothing is true, what more can I do? I am still painting flowers for you'' means that maybe she lied to him and he doesn't know what to believe, yet he still loves her, even though nothing she said was true..? Great song, by the way.

General Comment:i think that this song is about any ATL member and a girl whos maybe got another boyfriend now and they just drifted apart when the band started touring and he still thinks about her and hes still doing all the things he would have done with her when they were together "still painting flowers for you". the part about waking up and the dream isnt done shows that he is still thinking of her and that because shes still at his hometown he knows that when he see's her face it reminds him of his home. he feels safe.

General Comment:This song was written for Alice in Wonderland but didn't make it into the movie. if you go on iTunes and type in painting flowers it's on the "Almost Alice" CD, which is full of songs that didn't quite make the cut. NeverShoutNever has a song on there as well.

This is clearly about Alice in Wonderland because in the original movie there were cards "Painting Flowers" for the Red Queen. Alice also hears voices over her shoulder when she enters wonderland and in the newer movie she has to go through a maze. The song also says "I don't wanna lose my head," which directly refers to the Red Queen shouting "Off with his/her head."

General Comment:this song is clearly about alice and the queen but when i listen to this i somehow interpret it as a boy who's sacrificing and doing things to satisfy a girl

    "Show my cards
    Give you my heart"
    and
"I'm still painting flowers for you"

these lines make me think that a boy is doing impossible things for her.

Song Meaning: I think that this song means that he loves someone, but the relationship isn’t working out and he can’t be himself around her for fear of losing her. Their relationship has just gotten to be too much and it isn’t going anywhere (hence the “…every day we’re running in circles”). Also, he wants to see her and have her tell him that everything is going to be alright, but either she can’t or she won’t. He is confused by their crazy relationship, and deep down he knows that he can’t continue loving this person.
“I am still painting flowers for you” means that he is pretending to be someone he’s not for her by covering up his true self, and he’s weary of it (in this sense he is the “white rose,” their love is the “red paint” and the girl he loves is the “Red Queen/Queen of Hearts”. The Queen of Hearts would be more fitting because, with what we can get from the song, she has stolen his heart.) Also, when the song says “the dream isn’t done”, I interpret that to mean that his confusing relationship is like Alice’s Wonderland (a disturbing yet fascinating dreamworld that he feels he has to escape). This isn’t to say that Wonderland is a bad place; the only reason it’s like poison to him is that he is in love with the Red Queen rather than the Mad Hatter .

    General Comment:I absolutely love this.
    The references to Alice in Wonderland are amazing. Like;

I wonder why do we race
When every day we're running in circles

as a reference to the caucus race

They manage to mix the references really well to have double meanings to a love story.
The line "I'm still painting flowers for you" is beautiful. A nice reference to Alice with the cards having to paint the Queen's roses red after planting white ones by mistake whilst providing a lovely message which I interpret as still having feelings for someone.
    Gorgeous lyrics and music.

    My Opinion:I agree with angiedangerous.

Back in The Party Scene days, Alex was much younger. His voice has obviously matured since then--we just didn't hear it too much because of the Auto-Tune. This is his real voice, without Auto-Tune--but it's more mature than in The Party Scene which was recorded when they were... what? 16? 17?

At the beginning, it doesn't sound a lot like him, but that's probably because in most of his songs, he's singing loudly... at the beginning of Painting Flowers, he's singing quieter than in songs like Break Your Little Heart.

My Opinion:i don't really care for all time low.
but i love this song, especially the lyrics. i didn't recognize this as all time low at first. i think this is much better than any of their work i have heard before (their hit stuff).
i give kudos to the band for this song. it fits alice in wonderland (obviously) perfectly but i can also relate from more of a relationship perspective.
