You hit me just like heroin
I feel you coursing through my veins
I once tried to kick this addiction
I swear I'll never kick again
Won't ever kick again, no

This addiction, can't seem to live without you
This addiction, no going clean
This addiction, I go through withdrawal without your
Sick with this addiction in me

Well those others were like methadone
I took to get me through the day
Now I'm trying to find my way back home
Staying clean along the way
Hold out for the real thing, yeah

This addiction, can't seem to live without you
This addiction, now going clean
This addiction, I go through withdrawal without your
Sick with this addiction in me

This addiction [Repeat x3]
I go off the rails without your
Sick with this addiction in me

General Comment:Singer and guitarist Matt Skiba told Punknews.org the title is a metaphor about dependency. "Like, drug addiction or alcohol addiction isn't too different from being addicted to love." He added: "It's a metaphor that's been used before and this is our take on it. I think for some people, love is a drug. If you listen to the lyrics in the song 'This Addiction,' it's about trying to kick this thing you can't seem to get away from. There are references to heroin and methadone – to kicking that and staying clean."

General Comment:I like the song. I would say it's comparing a girl or relationship to pill addiction. I would go with pills, i'm guessing painkillers, oxycodone, over heroin because of the cover of the album. Also...how many times have Dan and Matt tied lyrics or song titles to pills. 'Washed it down the drain, with 1 silver bullet and 2 vicodin.' 'Take...with lots of alcohol.' Like the pills in your hand, I'll never let you down,' and so on. Methadone is used to treat addictions to pain killers. Especially oxycodone. I like the song. At first it really sounds a lot like 'My friend Peter.'

General Comment:Anyone else think the Chorus of this song sounds a bit like Good Charlotte's general tone?
Not that this is a particularly good thing... Just crossed my mind.

General Comment:This album will undoubtedly be awesome, but the only thing about them going back to their roots, is that we won't hear anything NEW. You know? I love it that they're trying to resusitate that old sound though. I deff missed it after Crimson and A and I. The lyrics to this song are mediocre as compared to the rest of the Trio's shit. Like, in A and I, I thought Matt's lyrics kind of dragged, whereas early on, it was Dan's lyrics who kind of dragged. These are sort of short and...not as emotional?...as lines like "at least we're still friends..." or something.

Regardless, I still love this song, the Trio, and am frantically waiting for the release of this album. They can't make a bad album...

General Comment:don't get me wrong, i do quite like this song, but perhaps the Trio are running our of ideas? you take the intro and bridge of this song and it sounds almost exactly the same as the bridge in "Goodbye Forever" off their earlier self-titled album. it's not the first time they've done this either, the guitar in the verse of "Calling All Skeletons" sounds very similar to that in the verse of "Deathbed"

but despite this observation, still lovin' the Trio =)

    General Comment:Awesome song!

My first thought is that Matt is singing about an old girlfriend that he got back together with. He is comparing his deisre for this woman to a heroine addicts need to use heroine. He says that he once tried to kick the addiction or end the relationship, but it doesn't sound like that worked out for him.

Anyone else got anything better? I bet there is more to this song than I am seeing since its ALK3 after all.
