You say your time has come
You're tire of waking up
Don't be obscene,
I can't conceive of
Living without you
You say you drag me down
No one should want you now
I start to cry,
You kiss my eyes and say
I'm not allowed to

Burning beacon in the night
Can't feel its heat or see its lights
That single solitary guide
It must get lonely there sometimes

You were a child forgot
Lessons of love untaught
Now no embrace can quite replace
The one that never found you
I was raised tenderly

All that was taught to me
I will apply,
Your parents tried
But they didn't know how to

Burning beacon in the night
Can't feel its heat or see its lights
That single solitary guide
It must get lonely there sometimes

Let me stand by you
The honor is mine
Let me stand by you
Loneliest light
Loneliest light
Loneliest light

Burning beacon in the night
Can't feel its heat or see its lights
A single solitary guide
It must get lonely there sometimes

General Comment:The Beacon is obviously about a person with depression. Probably about Alison being in a relationship with someone who has depression. That's clear.

What is not clear is what the Beacon Represents. A Beacon is a guiding light so in this instance I think the Beacon she is referring to is hope. Having a hope beacon, and being able to see it, is what keeps people growing and trying in life. If you "Can't feel or see it's light" that describes a person who is without hope, or in other words depressed.

"Let me stand by you" is just her saying she loves this person so much even if they think they are bringing her down into the depression with them she still will stay and be supportive (as many people cannot stand being around depressed people, becase it is well, Depressing) and see them on the other side of this down time.

The "lonliest light" however seems to indicate that when do find the beacon it will be lonely there and that does not quite fit in with hope. Maybe the hope beacon is lonely without this person in it's light, that sort of thing.

Or that "it must get lonely there sometimes" is a reference to many people lose hope at some point and living with hope can be tough when everyone around you has no hope.

Deep stuff though, that's why she is the best!

General Comment:I believe that this song is about someone with suicidal intentions ("You say your time has come your tired of waking up....") who cant seem to find that hope to keep going through life ("Burning beacon in the night can't feel it's heat or see it's light....") but she is trying to convince them of their worth and encourage them to keep going ("Let me stand by you the honor is mine." "All that was done to me i will apply..." "Dont be obscene i cant conceive of living without you."). I think that the person who is contemplating the suicide might have had parents who emotionally abandoned them when they were growing up ("You were a child forgot lessons of love untaught noow no embrace can quite replace the one that never found you." "Your parents tried but they didn't know how to.") I also think that she is using the Burning Beacon expression to describe their beauty and worth that they cant seem to see. hence the line "let me stand by you, loneliest light..."

Song Meaning:I think it's about a guy with a troubled past past who thinks he's bringing down his relationship, told through the eyes of the girl who feels completely differently.

In the first verse the girl hears him talking about suicide but she just can't imagine living without him. This upsets her but he won't let her cry because he's the one with problems, not her.

The second verse talks about his past and why he doesn't know how to love now. But she was taught how and in turn she'll show him.

The last verse is her pledge that she'll always be there for him, and it isn't a sacrifice for her.

The song is about the immense love two people can feel for eachother even in the face of great problems.

General Comment:I think this song may be about someone who is close to a friend or someone who is thinking about commiting suicide.
"You're tired of waking up." giving up on life, and when she cries he doesn't want her to, since it's not her fault they feel that way. The singer feels bad for him, and doesn't want him to go, "When i start to cry, you say i'm not allowed to."
The person who feels like giving up has tried reaching out to his parents "you're parents tried but they didnt know how to." Which could also lead to the suicide thing, since he doesnt know how to better himself since he was never taught. The singer wants to stay by his side, but he's pushing away, trying to convince her that it's okay. "Let me stand by your side."
But no matter what she says he wants to give up.
The 'burning beacon in the night' is like a light of hope, salvation if you will. but it cannot reach her friend. "can't feel it's heat." He is too far gone into the mind set of letting everything go.

Maybe it's because i've got through a situation like this, but that's what it reminds me of. Might not be it, but could be?

General Comment:beautiful song, I love her album.

I think she's singing to her friend who happens to be single and lonely and just wants to give up. When she says "Now no embrace can quite replace, The one that never found you". She's telling her she's beautiful and she understands her loneliness and she'll stand by her through this hard time.

General Comment:I think is song is about a girl that's with someone who doesn't know how to love. The guy was raised by parents who didn't know how to show him they loved him so his whole life he's searched for that love. The girl wants to stand by him, and use the love her parents showed her to give him the love he's longed for. He is afraid of bringing her down, that he isn't good enough for her but she knows he is worth it. She wants to let him feel love so he is no longer lonely.

I love this song! It is so beautiful!
