In regards to the meaning of this song:
Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.”
That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.
I don't remember one moment I tried to forget
I lost myself yet I'm better not sad
Now I'm closer to the edge
It was a thousand to one and a million to two
Time to go down in flames and I'm taking you
Closer to the edge
No I'm not saying I'm sorry
One day, maybe we'll meet again
No I'm not saying I'm sorry
One day, maybe we'll meet again
No, no, no, no
Can you imagine a time when the truth ran free
A birth of a song, a death of a dream
Closer to the edge
This never ending story, paid for with pride and fate
We all fall short of glory, lost in ourselves
No I'm not saying I'm sorry
One day, maybe we'll meet again
No I'm not saying I'm sorry
One day, maybe we'll meet again
No, no, no, no
No, no, no, no
I will never forget
No, no
I will never regret
No, no
I will live my life
No, no, no, no

@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday".
I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.

Plastic Bag

Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it.
“I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
Did anyone else get sort of teary-eyed when watching the video? Not in a sad way but just because it made you feel like you wanted to be free from what the world expected you do be. Like you wanted to go back to when you were a kid, you enjoyed the world and the people around you. Like you were about to break out of the shell the world had forced you into.. Just closer to the edge of breaking. I love the meaning of this song and unlike most videos I see, I was really impressed with the positive message it sent out. I rank it high on my list with Sick Puppies "All The Same" Free Hugs Campaign. Keep it up 30STM, the youth today could use some positive influences.
I agree w/u! The same thing happened to me! =D
Yes i did...
the video add so much more meaning too it..
other than the kill this song has totally taken me by the nuts lol
That exactly how I feel when I hear this song SouthernBelle2005. Now can Someone explain this song by verse. I have read a few good reviews, but I don't think its about a relationship. I feel like its more than that. It seems hes talking about religion. "The Birth of a son" I don't know, but i'm trying to understand this song and i'm at a wall.. In many of TSTM songs it seems like they talk about religion.
Oh... Birth of a song... I missed that one...
When listening to CTTE you have to keep in mind, "i will never forget, i will never regret, i will live my life." The song starts by telling you, "i don't remember one moment i tried to forget." That's the start of it all. During each verse it takes you to a time that you haven't forgotten. Each time you don't forget and you don't regret a decision good or bad, it brings you closer to the edge (living your life). "Maybe one day we'll meet again" is about looking back at those moments which have made you who you are. For me, this song means if you forget or regret anything for a reason you are not living your life. In order to live your life you have to take each moment and learn from it.. not regret it. It is a beautiful song.
I fall in love with the video everytime I see it! :-]
the video is fucking amazing. i swear i watched it about ten times in a row.
Video rocks
I kind of feel this song is about a relationship where one has "lost themselves" and happens to take the other down with them, engulf them in "the flames." They aren't sorry, just hopeful that they'll be able to meet again by chance of fate? I don't know but that's what it sounds like to me :P
I love every 30 Seconds To Mars Song, they're just soo deep. God!! I hate they're not as recognized fot it as they deserve!!! This song is amazing, is about living, taking risks for what you want and what you believe, and not regretting it, 'cause it makes you who you are. And you shouldn't be ashamed of the decisions you make in your life.
This is a very beautiful song. It's about how he lost himself from all the hate and sadness inside of him. He wanted to erase all of that and not remember it, but then he found the truth. He wanted to live his life with no regret, happy with all his choices, and not focus on the things he thinks he needs in order to be happy. The sun (happiness) is born and dreams die because he no longer is seeking for something to happen for him to be happy and fulfilled with his life. He is closer to the edge because he is almost completely transformed into someone who is internally fulfilled.
Singer/guitarist Jared Leto explained to Musicradar.com that this song very nearly didn't make the album. He said: "Actually, we were going to throw this song out, but we decided to keep it. It was hard to mix, a total pain in ass, but I'm glad it made the record because I think it fits in with the overall framework of the album. The song is a mission, an adventure that takes you on a journey. Maybe that's why it gave us so much trouble: We had go on an adventure as a band to get it right. Some songs come very easily and other ones fight you. Oftentimes, the ones that give you trouble turn out to be the best ones - this is an example of the latter."
Really good song. Cant wait for Dec. 8
i think it's that he messed up with a relationship but he's not going to dwell in the past. life goes on
I love this song and the video! Personally I really doubt thsi song is about love or anything. I think this song is about looking at the world in a differnt way, This song makes the world seem like a brighter place and it doesn't seem so scary. All the people at the begining, middle and end of the video are truely inspiring ad so are 30 seconds to mars. My favourite part of the music video is when a boy is standing on top of a mosh pit/rave off whatever you would call it, and it says 'this kid is amazing, yes he is standing on top of the crowd' I laughed so much. :D
I WANNA MEET THAT KID! lol, yeah, the video is fantastic. Kinda like a message of hope for all the fans who just wanna break free of all the normal routine :)
I agree. I don't think this song is directly about a relationship, though I can see how on a macro level it can become about a relationship, instead I think it is about looking at the world with a more open perspective, about living your life by your standards and not apologizing for that but reveling in the fact that you aren't afraid to be different.

It's about using words instead of war, although the album titled "This is war", I feel it's more a war on society in the main. We should all accept that no one is going to be what you except them and not hate them for it but love them for those differences.

Either way you view the song is the right way to view it, it's a gorgeous and inspiring song and video :] I like you comment!
