No matter how many times that you told me you wanted to leave
No matter how many breaths that you took you still couldn't breathe
No matter how many nights did you lie
Wide awake to the sound of the poison rain
Where did you go? Where did you go? Where did you go?

Tell me would you kill to save a life?
Tell me would you kill to prove you're right?
Crash, crash, burn, let it all burn
This hurricane keeps chasing us all underground

No matter how many deaths I die, I will never forget
No matter how many lies I live, I will never regret
There is a fire inside,
Of this heart, a riot about to explode into flames
Where is your God?
Where is your God?
Where is your God?

Do you really want?
Do you really want me?
Do you really want me dead?
Or alive to torture for my sins?

Do you really want?
Do you really want me?
Do you really want me dead?
Or alive to torture for my sins?

Tell me would you kill to save your life?
Tell me would you kill to prove you're right?
Crash, crash, burn, let it all burn
This hurricane keeps chasing us all underground

The promises we made were not enough
The prayers that we had prayed were like a drug
The secrets that we sold were never known
The love we had, the love we had, we had to let it go, oh

Tell me would you kill to save your life?
Tell me would you kill to prove you're right?
Crash, crash, burn, let it all burn
This hurricane's chasing us all underground
Oh, oh, oh
This hurricane
Oh, oh, oh
This hurricane
Oh, oh, oh

Do you really want?
Do you really want me?
Do you really want me dead.
Or alive to torture for my sins?

Do you really want?
Do you really want me?
Do you really want me dead?
Or alive to torture for my sins?

My Opinion:When I first heard this song, it REALLY fit my mood at the time. It's so powerful and I got immediate chill bumps.

It's just about an imperfect person or situation. But you're still hooked or dealing with issues and can't find a way to make it better. It's kind of when you're stuck in the moment. So you feel all angsty.

It's a great song to help deal with frustration or something along those lines. It's a really honest song I feel.

General Comment:To me this is a song about abuse. The abuse could be:
Someone abusing someone else (physical, verbal, somone trying to change someone else)
    OR
Self inflicted abuse - such as drugs, alcohol, or some other self-destructive/masochistic tendancies (masochist = a person who tends to put themself in a situation that causes them personal pain or suffering; deriving pleasure from causing one’s own suffering).

"No matter how many times that you told me you wanted to leave"
    - An abused/masochistic person often continues to take abuse or inflict the abuse upon themself. A person who gets beat or who has self-destructive tendencies, will keep saying they are going to leave their abuser or they're going to change - and even though it is destroying them, they stay where they are.

"No matter how many breaths that you took, you still couldn't breathe"
    - This person feels trapped and when one feels trapped they tend to panic

Song Meaning:I honestly think this song is not about love,it's about abuse.
First of all,Jared leaves their music open to interpretation.
So the abuse I think this song is about could be:
Someone abusing someone else (physical, verbal, somone trying to change someone else)
    OR
Self inflicted abuse - such as drugs, alcohol, or some other self-destructive/masochistic tendancies (masochist = a person who tends to put themself in a situation that causes them personal pain or suffering; deriving pleasure from causing one’s own suffering).

My Interpretation:I've seen alot of people talking about the video being about religion, I just wanted to say I think there's more to it than that. Religion really only occupies a small portion of the lyrics, and even then could be taken in a different context. Usually a video isn't a portal into the song's meaning as much as it's an advertisement that makes the lyrics seem easier to grasp so that audiences will be pulled into the music more. It's my belief the lyrics are talking about the cycle of death and destruction that consumes the world.

Right off the bat in the first stanza he's calling out all the people who harm others one way or another for profit, asking them that if they really wanted to stop, then why do they continue to perpetrate these crimes?

The chorus is a taunt to the ideology that sometimes it's okay to kill others and the results of that ideology around the world. The hurricane is the cycle of death and destruction as it forces those of us afraid of it's devastating path to hide and wait for the storm to leave us, but it never does.

The 2nd stanza talks about those who are willing to step out of hiding and try to stop the problem. How the cycle kills them over and over metaphorically, but they continue to push through the storm. The cycle has angered those who fight it to their breaking point, so muchso that they can't help but question how any higher power could possibly allow this to happen, and throwing that in the face of those fueling the storm by showing them that it is possible to stand against the winds.

The questing that follows are the replies to the witch hunt that follows when people stand against the cycle. Most famous men who try to lead the world out of the cycle end up dead one way or the other, MLK jr or John Lennon. Jared is asking if he will be killed quickly or slowly for his protest.

The last unique stanza talks about hope. The hope all those before us had that their defiance would change the world, and how their actions fell short in the end. Jared is saying he isn't going to hope, because hope will fail him.

The remaining repetitions are him saying he will press on because it is the only choice we have, with or without hope.

My Interpretation:I see this song as a conversation between the American leaders and Al Queda.

"Tell me would you kill, to save a life?" This is Al Queda asking the westernised countries would they kill their terrorist group for the sake of saving the lives of their own.

"Tell me would you kill, yto prove you're right?" This is the westernised leaders asking them if they would kill for the sake of what they believe in... to prove to everyone that they are right about what they believe in.

"crash, crash, burn. let is all burn. This hurricane's chasing us all underground." Jared is basically saying here that were are in a vicious circle ("hurricane") they we cannot get out of. we are running round in circles trying to find the answer to make everyone happy with their beliefs... but while these westernised countries are trying to keep the peace, everything is crashing and burning around us (eg 9/11, 7/7, going to war in afghan...)

"where is your God?" this could be both sides asking that question. the westernised leaders could be asking them where is their god to prove they are right about what they are saying? where is their god to show them they will go to paradise when they carry out their plans (suicide bombing). but they could be asking the westerns where is their god to look after them while they are attacking them?

"do you really want me dead or alive to torture for my sins?" they are asking the westerns... do they want to killthe terrorists, or keep them alive and torutre them for their sins first... this was definitly questionable during the capture of bin laden and sadam hussain.

I dont know.... I think im pretty on key with this... would be nice to know what you think about my interpretation anyways :)

General Comment:I feel like this song is about someone involved in an affair. I see it like they are both in love, but she knows it can't go on. She struggled with how wrong it was that they continue and wants to leave. As much as she may love him, the fact that it's wrong becomes a prison for her. He knows she's right, but he's so in love with her, he can't let go.

"No matter how many deaths that I die I will never forget
No matter how many lives that I live I will never regret
There is a fire inside of this heart and a riot about to explode into flames"

He challenges her on her beliefs ("Where is your God? Where is your God?") Like her God could not fill this place they've found in each other. By doing this, she is killing him and he's asking her, "Do you really want me dead or alive?" Are you going to do this no matter what the outcome? Would you kill (me?) to save a life (from damnation?) and to prove you're right. It's like he knows it's wrong, but doesn't have the same conviction over it like she does.

    Just some thoughts

General Comment:listening to listen i kept thinking of the hunger games--

No matter how many times that you told me you wanted to leave
No matter how many breaths that you took you still couldn't breathe could
-- ( ^^ when gale says they could run away together. )

No matter how many nights that you lied wide awake to the sound of the poison rain
-- ( ^^ in the arena at one point there was acid fog / rain. )

Tell me would you kill to save a life?
    -- ( katniss and rue & katniss and peeta & such.. )

Crash, crash, burn let it all burn
    -- ( ^^ district twelve. )

This hurricane is chasing us all underground.
    -- ( ^^ district thirteen. )

No matter how many deaths that I die, I will never forget
No matter how many lives I live, I will never regret
( ^^ everyone in general. the war & rebellion has changed them.)

There's a fire inside this heart and a riot about to explode into flames
-- ( ^^ Katniss is the girl on fire.. and when she finally realize she has to take charge. )

    Do you really want?
    Do you really want me?
Do you really want me dead?
Or alive to torture for my sins?
    -- ( ^^ President Snow & Coin to katniss )

You say you wrong, you wrong, I'm right, I'm right, you're wrong, we fight
Ok, I'm running from the light, running from the day to night

Oh, the quiet silence defines our misery
-- ( ^^ district thirteen in having to be quiet during certain moments. )

The riot inside keeps trying to visit me
No matter how we try, it's too much history
-- ( ^^ between the capitol and district thirteen. )

Too many bad notes playing in our symphony
-- ( ^^ line reminds me of the mockingjays. )

So let it breathe, let it fly, let it go
Let it fall, let it crash, burn slow
-- ( ^^ mockingjay as there symbol, they have to loose it all to get it back )

And then you call upon God
    Oh you call upon God
--( ^^ people are desperate for things to get better )

    ~

    that was my interpretation...
i probably didn't explain it well, obviously.
so if you've never read the books you won't understand.
and if you have you most likely will.

Song Meaning:Hurricane is not about love, religion or anything as that. Hurricane is about the human's will(pleasure, mind...you understand), and how the society influences us. When it says "Where is your God" is referring to the people who let their tastes being crush by fashion, or those who never do what they want because of their friends or "what they are gonna think". For them, they're Gods, ¿why? Because they're controling their lives. Hurricane also about overcome our fears and fighting them. It's a ode of live, dreams, and reach the goals of us. It's a living metaphor that urge us to carry on. All about this song is positive... When the composer is Jared Leto, you should not stay in the surface but dig deep into the metaphor. Great song.

My Interpretation:It's about religion, all of the negativity that comes about from religious dogmatism. Lots of repression (especially sexual repression); lots of violence. Pretty simple.

-The first stanza is about someone who ultimately doubts their religious choices but continues to practice their religion.

-The repetition of the word "crash" is reminiscent of the double plane crashes into the twin towers on 9/11. (the video takes place in Manhattan, mind you).

-The idea of the hurricane chasing us underground refers both to the deaths caused by the "hurricane" (religious dogmatism from every side) and the repression I mentioned before.

    Everything else is mostly self-explanatory.
