Lady GaGa – Speechless

  My Interpretation:I think that Lady Gaga killed the man in the end. Here’s what happened:
  “I can't believe what you said to me
  Last night when we were alone
  You threw your arms up
  Baby you gave up, you gave up”
  
  They fought one night and a bad relationship eventually falls under its own weight when the man “threw his hands up” and “gave” The imagery looks like a wrestling match. They are fighting but Lady Gaga seems to enjoy this kind of dynamics of relationship.
  
  “I can't believe how you looked at me
  With your James Dean glossy eyes
  In your tight jeans with your long hair
  And your cigarette stained lies”
  
  Imagery:
  1st line: disbelief
  2nd line: Hot rebel
  3rd line: more imagery
  4th line: his mouth is stained with lies and he can’t change that (cigarette stains)
  James Dean is best known for being the ‘Rebel without a Cause’ they must have started the relationship with promises and sweet words. But in the end, Lady Gaga feels that he rebelled against her and ultimately against the kind of relationship they were having.
  
  “Could we fix you if you broke?”
  Can the both of us fix this relationship now that it is broke?
  
  “And is your punch line just a joke?”
  was the promise just some punch line to a joke?
  
  “I'll never talk again
  Oh boy you've left me speechless
  You've left me speechless, so speechless
  And I'll never love again
  Oh boy you've left me speechless
  You've left me speechless, so speechless”
  
  She then tries to bargain with him.
  She will never talk again and quietly accept whatever is in front of her (giving up one’s voice)
  She will never love again because all she want is him now. Thou she wants him to stay, it isn’t out of love, but out of a need.
  She is just speechless. Plus this is a singer who is saying this. Someone who uses expression in everything she does. If she cannot use speech, she has lost everything. (She will give up everything, ie: career, for him)
  
  “I can't believe how you slurred at me
  With your half wired broken jaw
  You popped my heart seams
  All my bubble dreams, bubble dreams”
  
  Here it looks like they’ve become doll/puppet-like items. He is a broken doll/puppet who unraveled the dreams of the singer. They’ve become nothing but empty husks or what was once love. They are no longer in control. They have turned to play things of each other’s love.
  
  “And after all the drinks and bars that we've been to
  Would you give it all up?
  Could I give it all up for you?
  
  And after all the boys and the girls that we've been through
  Would you give it all up?
  Could you give it all up?
  
  If I promised boy to you
  That I'll never talk again
  And I'll never love again
  I'll never write a song
  Won't even sing along
  I'll never love again”
  
  She talks about the experiences they had together as something to hold on to. So after all that, would you REALLY give up? She tries to compromise again.
  
  “How, how, how so speechless
  You left me speechless, so speechless baby
  
  Will you ever talk again?
  Oh boy, why you so speechless?
  You've left me speechless, so speechless
  
  Some men may follow me
  But you choose "death and company"
  Why you so speechless? Oh oh oh”
  
  Here the love ultimately goes wrong. In her desperation and fear of him leaving her, she “killed” him. If, like “some men” he followed her, he would not have followed “death and company” So now he is speechless. The tides have changed. I leave it you whether she killed him literary, or she just managed to get over the guy and now it’s the other way around.

  General Comment:This is definitely her best song. I don't understand why she has to do all these weird things and sing dumb songs when she has soo much talent. She's a really good singer and amazing song writer.

  My Interpretation:Sounds like destructive love (read: abusive) with someone who has a substance abuse prob.
  
  My interpretation: The singer wants to make things perfect/right, but it doesn't matter what they do; because, they'll always be wrong. They're walking on eggshells and messed up about the essence of love, i.e. "speechless."

    Have to wonder if Gaga has ever loved someone so much it hurts...because he's always with someone else while claiming to care about her. Curious to know more about the personal life of such a talented entertainer...

  General Comment:Everyone's saying how this song is about her father. . . but in fact, I don't think it's about her father at all. Sure she performed it for him when he had surgery, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the lyrics are ABOUT him.
  
  This is obviously a love song. To me it's the story of Gaga being in a dysfunctional relationship with a guy who's thinking about breaking up with her. This song is Gaga saying - I love you so much, I'm speechless. I will give everything up for you. "I'll never talk again." (To me, that is one of the most romantic lines ever written), she's saying - I'll never talk again, I'll never write another song, all I need is you. All her hopes and dreams disappeared and she is just head over heels in love with the guy.
  
  Obviously she didn't give up her hopes and dreams and talents (thank god) but this song is her emotion of wanting to for her love.
  
  That's how I interpret it at least. Not saying I'm correct, that's just what it means to me. Either way this is an outstanding absolutely gorgeous and emotional song. Thank you Gaga for sharing it with us!

    No, she wrote this for her father. She once said that while on the road she got a call to inform her that her father was suffering from cancer, and when she hung up, she wrote this song.

  the sentence "with you johnnie walker eyes" is she saying drunken eyes, or dark eyes- cause johnnie walker is a dark coloured drink. And the next sentence "Hes gonna get you and after hes through theres gonna be no love left to rye"? I dont really understand who he is..is she referring to johnnie walker or somebody else, and what does rye mean??

    After reading through all the previous interpretations above, I personally think that "your Johnnie Walker eyes" refers to the look in her father's eyes when he is looking to get drunk.
    
    So his eyes are both looking for the Johnnie Walker drink and looking like a Johnnie Walker drunk.
    
    "He" in the third line continues with the Johnnie Walker reference as a person to represent alcohol.
    
    With that assumption, "He's gonna get you" would mean that Johnnie Walker will make her father drunk.
    
    As rye is used to make whiskeys such as Johnnie Walker, it is a play on words to rhyme with "eyes"as well as a metaphor for drowning love with the alcohol.

  My Interpretation:this song is about her father. he didn't want to go to heart surgery. so she wanted to convince him to go through this surgery. if he wouldn't went, he would die. she told in song that she would never sing and talk again if he won't go to surgery. i think that she sings this song to him and then he decided to go to surgery because he saw how much lady gaga love him. he was speechless when he heard this song.
  this is just my interpretation.

  General Comment:This song just blows my mind! This is a classic! And the more you read the lyrics, the more you realise the depth of the song. I desire to sit with Lady GaGa when she plays this song on the piano and wrap my arms around her and be serenaded. This song just makes me go gaga!! \m/

  General Comment:Gaga wrote this song for her dad who didn't want to have an open heart surgery because he was scared. He had heart problems because of over-drinking as it talks about drinking and bars in the song. She wrote this song when she was on tour and she was beginning to get depressed and she was talking to her mum on the phone saying she couldn't not do the other half of the tour and go and be with her dad and family. In the song Gaga is saying that if her dad dies before having the surgery then she will stop writing music, performing and will never sing again, insted she will look after her mum and sister. When Gaga's dad heard Speechless he went and had the open heart surgery and is now recovered.

  Song Meaning:all i know is that everysong on her Fame Monster album are about her fears. I think this one is about her abusive father who makes her scared to love, or something like that.
