Hey, slow it down
Whataya want from me
Whataya want from me
Yeah, I'm afraid
Whataya want from me
Whataya want from me

There might have been a time
When I would give myself away
(Ooh) Once upon a time
I didn't give a damn
But now here we are
So whataya want from me
Whataya want from me

Just don't give up
I'm workin' it out
Please don't give in
I won't let you down
It messed me up, need a second to breathe
Just keep coming around
Hey, whataya want from me
Whataya want from me

Yeah, it's plain to see
That baby you're beautiful
And there's nothing wrong with you
It's me I'm a freak
But thanks for lovin' me
'Cause you're doing it perfectly

There might have been a time
When I would let you slip away
I wouldn't even try but I think
You could save my life

Just don't give up
I'm workin' it out
Please don't give in
I won't let you down
It messed me up, need a second to breathe
Just keep coming around
Hey, whataya want from me
Whataya want from me
Whataya want from me
Whataya want from me

Just don't give up on me
I won't let you down
No, I won't let you down

So
Just don't give up
I'm workin' it out
Please don't give in
I won't let you down
It messed me up, need a second to breathe
Just keep coming around
Hey, whataya want from me

Just don't give up
I'm workin' it out
Please don't give in
I won't let you down
It messed me up, need a second to breathe
Just keep coming around
Hey, whataya want from me
(whataya want from me)
Whataya want from me
(whataya want from me)
Whataya want from me

My Interpretation:"Hey, slow it down/Whataya want from me/Whataya want from me/Yeah, I'm afraid/Whataya want from me/Whataya want from me"
In this line, he talks about how he's afraid that a relationship is going too fast and doesn't want to rush into anything serious.

"There might've been a time when I would give myself away/Oh, once upon a time/I didn't give a d**n/But now here we are/So whataya want from me/Whataya want from me"
In this line, he says that he used to just give his love to anyone, not caring about the damage it does to him. But now that he's met the love of his life, he wants to focus on that person.

"Just don't give up/I'm workin' it out/Please don't give in/I won't let you down/It messed me up/Need a second to breathe/Just keep coming around, hey/Whataya want from me/Whataya want from me/Whataya want from me"
In the chorus, he talks about how he doesn't want the person he's dating to give up on him and leave him, like others have done before. He also talks about how past heartbreaks have hardened his heart to love and that he needs some time to heal himself and needs the person's help to do so.

    "Yeah/ It's plain to see/That, baby, you're beautiful/and there's nothing wrong with you/It's me, I'm a freak/But thanks for loving me/'Cause you're doin' it perfectly"
In this line, he says it's not the other person's fault that their relationship isn't working out perfectly, and that it's his fault. He also thanks them for loving him, even though he didn't deserve it.

"There might've been a time that I would let you slip away/I wouldn't even try/But I think you could save my life"
In this lyric, he says that, in the past, he'd let his lover leave him, and wouldn't even try to keep them with him, and he tells them that he thinks that they could put them on the right track and turn him into a better person.

General Comment:First, I wanna start by saying that I couldn't care less if Adam is gay, it just is who he is. Also, the way i related to this song is that, a few years ago, I was depressed and couldn't have cared less if I died, because I didn't think anyone else would care. In fact, I contemplated killing my self, just to end it. Then, I met someone, and he is so much...less bitter I guess, softer than I, who have trust issues, will ever be and one lyric especially,
"There might have been a time
When I would let you slip away
    I wouldn't even try but I think
    You could save my life"
makes me think of that, because he is one of the ONLY reasons I am still alive to post this comment. And I know, you people are gonna freak on me, but just shush, ok? Because, honestly? I couldn't care less about your opinion. As a very wise animated rabbit once said,"If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all."

General Comment:The song is written where it could be any gender singing to any gender. The orientation of a singer does not seal a song into a heterosexual or homosexual song. Its what it means to you.

    My interpretation..
"I'm afraid, you sent me the signal you could be serious, I think I have the same feelings, but I've been hurt before and don't want to read you wrong. There was a time I would have walked away [didn't want to get serious or just walk away from uncertain situations] but think you could save my life [I have strong feelings for you]. Please don't leave or be hurt if I don't behave appropriately. Tell me what you want and give me a second to figure it out and pull myself together."

He doesn't want either of them to be hurt but he doesn't want to just take easy way out and run away.

General Comment:okay, first of all, i LOVE him and i LOVE this song.his voice and the lyrics just capture me. i think this song is about having someone(specifically, a girl) who loves him, but since hes gay(its me, im a freak) he doesent love her back, but he wants her to still be his friend and doesnt want her to give up on being his friend.

My Interpretation:I heard this song a while ago, and when i first heard it i felt like he was just saying to the world, what do you want from me? what should i do? almost reaching out for help. Almost like he's a little lost in all the media madness and so doesn't want to let anyone down as he has been given an opportunity.

I think everyone feels like this sometimes, like your not quite sure what you should be doing or why. I can relate as i would love to stand up and sing this to my parents haha.

anyway thats just my opinion :)

Song Meaning:Although this song was probably not written specifically about it, I think it has alot to do with the AMA preformance controversy. It's like he's talking to the people who thought it was wrong.
    Whataya want from me?
He showed exactly who he was in that preformance and people were offended. If him being himself isn't right in society's eyes, then what is it they want from him? To not be gay? To not be himself? Being gay isn't a choice. That is the way he was born.

Personally I LOVE Adam. He is nothing like anyone else out there. He is his own genre. He is perfect, unique, and extremely SEXY. The artist of our time. THis song is beautiful.

General Comment:I think that this song is about how he is so into his music that he's not paying much attintion to his loved ones and when he tries to pay attition to his loved ones his fans are bothering him.

General Comment:to me it kinda seems like the kinda song adam would write. even though p!nk wrote it.when i first heard it i thought adam did write it. and i kina thought it was about u know he's in this relationship with a girl. and he's gay so he doesnt wanna brake her heart but he feels he doesnt love her. do the line kinda spoke to me this line "yeah, its plain to see, baby you're bautiful and theres nothing wrong with you. it's me, im a freak" it kinda made me feel like hes in this relationship & hes gay so he doesnt want her to feel like its her fault. its just him. and its kinda also like papparazzi and stuff are all over him and maybe that relationship hes in kinda has a lot of fights or something..and hes like..whataya want from me? its almost like hes annoyed by all the attention and papparazzi following him and not letting him have any personal space. so it basically came off to me in 2 different ways. hes got sum awesome songs and a killer voice! love his music..and wish he wasnt gay that boy is FINE!

My Opinion:At first I didn't understand the meaning of the song. It’s somewhat ambiguous. I think this song is referring to his life also. It also tells about the pressuring demands and expectations of the media and everyone who’s wanting much more from him. I believe everyone can relate to this song. Sometimes, too much expectation can really kill a person, and someone who’s special to that person’s heart needs to understand and support whatever that person has been through.
