Blessing
My name
Her pain
Hurtful
Somehow
I feel
Hopeful
Listen
Like me
New plan
I swore
Good friend
I feel
Shameful
Then I must bleed
My name
Her pain
Hurtful
Somehow
I feel
Hopeful
Listen
Like me
New plan
I swore
Good friend
I feel
Shameful
Then I must bleed

when i first heard this song, i felt really bad for some reason. like i had done something to disappoint someone. then i heard noah's background vocal towards the end. i was asking myself what this feeling was from, when noah started repeating, "that's from this weed." i felt dumb for being high. just one alternate interp.
pretty sure noah is just repeating "Then I must bleed" ...<br /> <br /> I guess you could say it's "that's from this weed"<br /> <br /> but that would just demean their music.
"but that would just demean their music." - How so? I mean, I don't believe that is what he is saying and I think "octopuscollective" misheard but in the context of it meaning something to them for that specific song why would it be demeaning toward their music?<br />
You're right.. it wouldn't demean their music. It would demean their intelligence and how they feel.
Once again, how so? If we are talking about how marijuana may have emotionally affected the individual so he interpreted his feelings coming about as they did as a result of the use of the weed, why would that be demeaning? Are you referring to the guilt the person may have felt about HOW he felt about what he was feeling while high? In other words, feeling demeaned by it. The way in which I'm stating it may come across as vague and potentially abstract but I suppose I'm just curious as to the specific context of the word 'demean" and how it applies for you to this song. Cheers.
I like to think they have something more to talk about than just drugs..
"I let some hash relax me, get lost in human pleasure" is in the song right after this one. and Panda Bear sings "I want to get so stoned And take a walk out in the light drizzle" in another song. Certainly all of their songs aren't about drugs, but they're okay including lyrics about them for sure.
Oh, I know, but that doesn't mean the song is about that.
Simply because they mention drugs in songs does not mean it degrades the music in any regard. You say you like to think there is more to their music than simply drugs? I agree! However, to assume that drugs are not an aspect of life that can be explored through music is ignorant and simply because you fear them does not invalidate a song that may mention or be about drugs or drug use. How would mentioning weed in a song demean their music? You sound like some kind of frightened elitist. Accept life in its totality and try not to segment it into convenient portions so your ego can handle the fact that no one is going to play the harp when you die and simply because you do not agree with something does not mean it should not be explored in song like ANYTHING else. Any one subject has the potential or capacity to degrade a song but it is not about the thing being explored or questioned in the song, it is how the artists are handling it.
Simply, you've taken what I was said way too deep. <br /> <br /> Simply, I was pointing out how everyone claims every one of their songs is about drugs and disregards anything else.<br /> <br /> Simply, I think the "frightened elitist" seems to be you. You've taken the time to right a "short essay" to let random people on the internet know you have half a brain. <br /> <br /> Simply, I do not give a fuck.
Ah, that's cute, you took offense because you know your passive aggressive initial comment about your hopes for their songs to be about more than just drugs is arrogant and that there must be at least a modicum of truth in my pointing out the ignorance of such a statement; otherwise why take offense? I referred to you as a frightened elitist simply because I felt your comment was demeaning and that you think the vast majority of people who listen to their music apparently only interpret it to be solely about drugs when in actuality it has more to do with the fact that you don't want music that you love to permeate the mainstream; which I can relate with. Regardless, I still think you sound like a frightened elitist and you should be okay with that because if you are, then it probably isn't the case. Also, if you think my post previous to this one was overly analytical and long, maybe you should read more...that ain't no short essay, it's a comment. I could fill endless pages with words about the music of AC and I only discovered them this past year. So, no, there music is certainly not about one thing, obviously. You're right. Hooray and what not.
Dear A Raging Bull,<br /> <br /> I'm not going to read that.<br /> <br /> Sincerely, enjoyyourroots
I didn't write it for you, I wrote it for me! This is songmeanings.net after all.
Also, if you were really trying to prove a point, you probably should not have responded at all. The fact you took time to write that you were not going to bother to read is rather ironic...but in a comical, endearing way; not in a degrading manner. I think it's cute.<br /> <br /> p.s. enjoyyourroots, you're the music in me.
I agree completely.<br /> <br /> You're such a wise man.<br /> <br /> Or bull...<br /> <br /> Whatever creature you may be.
I am all things and no thing. Think about that...or don't.
you're so profound.. i love you.
Well, that's apparent. Your sarcasm that permeates the subtext of your comments is nothing more to me than an obvious desire to be loved because you don't want to die alone(yes, that is a 'Shelia' reference)...but like most people you have to drape it in passive aggression and trivial ridicule because you need people to accept you even when you know your being dishonest, that way validating your insecurities so you can live in comfort knowing they are not judging you because you define who you are based on how you believe people perceive you rather than how you honestly feel about yourself...a coward in other words. A one-sided psychoanalysis I'm sure but I still think you're the bees knees so no need to take offense. I'm just letting you know I think YOU are really profound and I love you as well.<br /> <br /> p.s. Your inspiration continues to guide me towards my personal liberation.
What the hell was that all about??? LMAO at this back and forth from a few months ago...what the shit is happening?? Wow, Bull, pretentious much? Must you exacerbate your point by expanding your perspicacity...man, do I sound like a douche. Anywho, we're here for Animal Collective...
its funny how from a couple comments from enjoyyourroots and bull already figured out this persons life and in a overly dictionary intelligence, this guy should work for the government to catch criminals with a clue like brain (he wouldn't need one roll of the dice to figure out it was professor plum with a candlestick in the observatory)! from one comment he can tell if someones an elitist and lonely and etc hahaha funny stuff.. anyway good song live!!
I wish you guys wouldnt fight. Btw I have heard avey say in interviews (i dont know the specific ones offhand), he likes it when people hear different words and stuff in his lyrics.
