Lyrics for Do Better as interpreted by betoval

Do Better Lyrics
Life is not a spark in space
An episode of will and grace
Controversial yet mundane
Debra's messing with your brain

Even scientologists know there's more to all of this
Search the ruins for trapped doors
Wonder what you're put here for
Simple as a hint of gas climbing nostrils as you pass
Making Harvard graduates feel childish when they laugh at it
Climb the rungs to kingdom comes
Sour patch to acid tongue
Are you opposed to having fun?
You clench the world between your buns

You could do better
You could do better
You could be the greatest man in the world
Woah oh oh
(x2)

Your life is always the post of something else
Where is the present in the way that you present yourself?
And it's disgusting how little that you try
The existential equivalent of pink eye

Drink alone and watch TV, you're expecting harmonies
To tap your tune of silver spoons, anthem of impending doom
Guiding Satan's steady hand
Forcing beatles to disband
Its ego freaks and drama queens
The young at heart know what I mean

You could do better
You could do better
You could be the greatest man in the world
Woah
(x2)

You can do better, better than that
You're a fraud
Thank god you learned to keep your shirt on

You could do better
You could do better
You could be the greatest man in the world

You'd burn so brightly
You'd burn so brightly in the dark
You'd burn so brightly
you'd burn so, you'd burn so..

You could do better
You could do better
You could be the greatest man in the world
Woah oh oh
(x2)

You could do better, better than that
You're a fraud
Thank god you learned to keep your shirt on

You could do better
You could do better
You could be the greatest man in the world
Woah oh oh
(x2)

We could do better
We could do better
We could be the greatest band in the world

Favorite off of the new album. It's witty, clever, and everything I was hoping for when I heard the sound clip.

I agree with what Jason Tate said, it's like their first genuine follow up of Wow, I can get sexual too.

I think the greatest part is in Verse 4:

"Guiding Satan's steady hand
Forcing beatles to disband
Its ego freaks and drama queens
The young at heart know what I mean"

When I heard that, I was like, "Wow"
Max Bemis, you've done it again!

Ooohhh man I love this song, it's easily the standout song on the new album on the first few listens, to say the least.

I particularly got a kick out of the first verse, and the "Debra's messing with your brain," as Debra Messing is the girl who played Grace in Will and Grace.

Overall just a great, catchy, feel good song, but with a message to present, and it's such an experience to listen to, I can't get enough of it.

This song is so darn catchy. It makes me want to do something, kind of the same feeling as insult to the dead, except more upbeat.

I really love the new album, which is good because I'd be a mess if it was bad.

It's pretty oblivious what this song is about; It's someone who can 'do better' than what they are doing. This song is one of those catchy songs with a heavy underlying meaning, and Say Anything executes it perfectly.

This is one of those songs that gets played on repeat for hours straight and becomes the most played song in itunes...

I can't help but smile when I hear the first 2 verses. :-)

And does anyone have a guess what the line "Sour patch to acid tongue" means?

what got me was
"Your life is always the post of something else
Where is the present in the way that you present yourself?
And it's disgusting how little that you try
The existential equivalent of pink eye"

=/
