Would you take a straight and narrow, critical look at me?
Would you tell me tough-love style? Put judicial weight on me.
If you're thinking anything. If you're thinking endlessly.
If you're thinking anything. If you're thinkin'

I feel the breeze. Your feathers of an arrow.
Out in my yard, feathers of an arrow.
I take my aim, you feel me coming close.
I take my aim so you feel me coming close.

I feel the breeze. Your feathers of an arrow.
Out in my yard, feathers of an arrow.
I take my aim, you feel me coming close.
I take my aim so you feel me coming close.

Would you take a calm and tender, terminal kind of care?
Would you touch me? Cling and wage an intimid fight for me?
If you're thinking anything. If you're thinking endlessly

General Comment:so, i think this song is about her confronting her lover to be more honest with her, does she really care about her, how far would you go for me, etc. and i think the whole "arrow" metaphor is her preparing herself for the impact of an honest answer. "i feel the breeze, feel feathers of an arrow" is her knowing that she's not gonna like the answer, and she can just feel the nervousness creeping up, preparing herself for an "arrow"-type answer.

General Comment:PS And I think it is good to take the plunge, and also to think about the other more than about your own insecurities: to choose to also take a kind and tender terminal care of the other so that she feels safe. Focus on giving not on taking.
PS2 and she can of course also be he or s/he or whatever

Song Meaning:When I listen to this song I think of a situation in which you are flirting with someone and you are giving signals but you are not sure of each other what you are meaning and what will happen. Still you do have the certainty that there is something there, that the other is somehow "hitting on you", has her arrow on you. That's so sexy about the main line, "I feel the breaze. Feel feathers of an arrow", it is as if you feel the other's arrow approaching you (and that is a very sexy feeling), you feel her gaze on you. But this gaze is a bit scary as well, because, "would you take a straight and narrow, critical look at me"? Would the other measure every word you say, could you disappoint her by doing or saying something wrong, looking stupid? Or "would you take a calm and tender, terminal care of me"? Is the gaze caring and loving, so that you can feel safe? You don't know yet in that moment and that is making you nervous, still "I take my aim, so you feel me coming close": you take the plunge.

General Comment:I know this might be a bit of a stretch, but whenever I listen to this song, I'm reminded of that saying 'straight as an arrow'. I kind of see the first verse as maybe questioning the other person's sexuality, because considering that the majority of the population is straight, at least for me that's often been a bit of an issue whenever I meet a new cute girl. The second verse then might also have at least a bit of 'how open are you willing to be about this relationship?' in it.
I know Tegan and Sara don't generally cover sexuality as an issue too much, but I think that there might be a little bit of subtext on that subject here.

General Comment:I feel the breeze. Feel feathers of an arrow.
Out in my yard, feathers of an arrow.
I take my aim, you feel me coming close.
I take my aim so you feel me coming close.

these lines are sexy though, like they describe the act of making love

General Comment:I'll quote exactly what the booklet says (changes are starred):

"Would you take a straight and narrow critical look at me, would you tell me tough love style, put judicial weight on me? If you're thinking anything, if you're thinking endlessly. I feel the breeze, feel feathers of an arrow, out in my yard, feathers of an arrow. I take my aim, *do you feel me coming close? Take my aim, so you feel me coming close.* Would you take a calm and tender terminal kind of care? Would you touch me, cling and wage an intimate fight for me?"

    General Comment:onto the meaning..

I see it as this: she is asking for her lover to be "straight up" with her and really honestly tell her how she feels and how far she'll go for her. she wants to know things like if she would fight for her and take care of her.
"if you're thinking anything, if you're thinking endlessly" to me is more of a question. in my head I see that line with a question mark, as an extention to what she said before.
it's all the confrontation of this girl that either isn't telling Sara how she's feeling, or maybe they just haven't known each other long enough for her to know.

but maybe I'm projecting my own problems here xD I've been feeling very much this way and relating really strongly to this song for that reason.
