They got a mirror for the ‘caine in the bathroom

because nobody here knows when to stop

but for now we’re just making out with the door unlocked

back in the atrium the music’s slowing down,

the party’s thinning out
for the late crowd
fixes her lipstick,
fixes his belt,

the coast is clear as he walks out

She whispers:

“You get what you pay for

we could cost a lot

you get what you pay for

but we do it for the taste of a good high
we do it for the sake of a hot night”

Her man on the couch in the blue room
with everyone stoned and talking at once

with no thought to where they’d been

or what they could have done
she sits down beside him
without a hint of shame

because everything’s the same in its own way

Kisses her man’s cheek,

her hunter eyes lock on her prey

She signals:

You get what you play boy

we could play a lot
you get what you play boy
but you do it for the taste of a good high

we do it for the sake of a hot night

She senses the fear in him

with an irresistible kiss
and a lie she hangs on his neck
like a silver chain to her whim
pull him into the mirror again

She senses the need in him
for her irresistible kiss

and a lie that she hangs on his neck
like a silver chain to her whim

There’s a mirror for the ‘caine in the bathroom

because nobody here knows when to stop

and the hand towel on the rail

seems it hangs out here a lot

General Comment:i think "you get what you pay for, we could cost a lot" isn't a reference to her being a prostitute. these people obviously had sex and she is in a relationship (he might be). it's basically "your life might get messy because of this, but that's the price you pay." she feels no shame from cheating, she likes the thrill, and he seems to be looking for some escape based on the last line, "seems he hangs out here a lot." or he could be looking for her again?

My Interpretation:I don't know about you guys but anyone else get the impression that she's a callgirl? ("You get what you pay for.") Like he's feeling abit mixed and ashamed that he's having sex with her because it feels sleazy (prob at a party in a hotel by the sound of "atrium") but he's doing it to fulfill the feeling of a "good night". He appearantly feels quite infatuated by her and doesn't really know what to do or how to feel about it, and pretending otherwise is the "lie she hangs round his neck"; a heavy burden/fatal (to him at least). Meanwhile, she senses how uncomfortable he is with the social stigma of it and kinda teases him and tests him. Sounds like she is a little curious about him aswell and tries to convince him that there's nothing wrong with it all, hence "hold him into the mirror". No?

Song Meaning:I feel like the Coke/Prostitute thing is a vehicle for the metaphor of looking into the mirror and not liking what you see, but not being able to change. Therefore, escaping into drugs, sex, etc.

    Everybody in the club:

"With no thought to where they've been
    What they could've done"

As in the scope of their lives, not just that night.

Also, the guy does it for "the taste of a good high", the chick for "the sake of a hot night". I feel like this could be furthering the escapism theme.

General Comment:well clearly there is cocaine on a mirror in the bathroom. and the line (which is also the title) "into the mirror" is talking about using cocaine and plunging into a new world. this world isn't necessarily good. he has shame for what he's done but she doesn't. and she continues to pull him into the mirror.

General Comment:Maybe she blew the guy in the bathroom for some coke.

My Interpretation:There is no doubt this song is about a girl cheating for blow and using sex to get it. But I think the line about "you get what you pay for" is more her asking the guy she just banged for coke a question not a statement. You get what you pay for? Like was it worth it? and the we could cost a lot meaning this could continue into the future and it would take more blow etc...I love how there never seems to be a lack of songs about slutty girls cheating and doing drugs. Thanks for starting it all Eve.

General Comment:In my opinion, the song is about drugs and sex, and how they're often tied together, unfortunately. The first verse is about a woman using a man and doing whatever she can for coke while he is...not necessarily a victim, but he doesn't have the intentions of getting her high just to fuck her. For him, it is what it is. When she states, "You get what you pay for...we could cost a lot...and we do it for the taste of a good high," I think that's her way of saying if he keeps giving her coke, she'll keep sleeping with him, and that the thrill of the affair is another part of the high. The second verse is basically about her boyfriend/husband having no idea about what just happened because he's probably stoned with everyone else at the party. The second chorus is almost the same as the first, but I think it's trying to show that she's in her comfort zone and that she does this a lot. "You get what you play, boy, and we could play a lot..." The next part of the song, I think she's coming on to him and he's scared because he doesn't want to start any trouble with her boyfriend, but she's "irresistible." The "lie that she hangs on his neck" is probably something stating that her and her boyfriend are having problems or are swingers or something absolutely ridiculous that she came up with just to get some coke out of him. "Pull him into the mirror again" is related to the very first line, she's getting him to do more coke so she can do more coke as well. Then he gets so drugged up that he doesn't care about his fear anymore, and it turns to need for her. ("She senses the need in him for her irresistible kiss") I'm not 100% sure about the hand towel verse, but to me it implies that one of the two people involved in the song lives at this house where the party is, and that (I'm not sure which one) does whatever they do in this song pretty often. I could probably be COMPLETELY wrong about this song but it was entertaining to write :D

General Comment:I'm personally trying to figure out it's relation to the song "Animal Backwards." I think the two songs are meant to go together, the second one being a continuation to "Into the Mirror," which is why they flow into one another so seamlessly (other than for the sake of album cohesiveness).
